What I see in your graph is an awful lot more of blue lines than red lines going down a lot. It appears that the democrats typically lose more in the off years than the republicans. Quantitatively, I see nine off years when the democrats lost more than twenty seats and seven years where the republicans lost more than twenty seats. I see seven off years when the democrats lost more than forty seats and four years where the republicans lost more than forty seats.

Republicans lost the house and 7 governorships and control of 9 state legislatures. Don't spin so fast you'll get dizzy.

I was not addressing Senate results when I noted the need to prevent gerrymandering by either party.

I had not heard any statistics regarding "urban people" intruding into rural homes or their hopes in doing so.

Permissive guns laws contribute to the obscene level of firearm fatalities in the US. Keeping deranged gunsters from amassing arsenals whilst protecting the right of folks who think they need them to protect themselves is the challenge.

I have heard no statistics either. However, when a break in is reported, it is usually someone from a large city a few miles away. Country folk have more sense. .

It was against the law to carry a firearm into that bar. Laws do little. And the guns are a fact of life. We can wish they aren't here, but they are here and a law passed to stop them will only result in the law abiding not having guns.

It is not merely a matter of numbers. Americans voted for checks and balances when they turned the House blue, and Adam Schiff becoming chairman of the House Intelligence Committee will result in a vigorous bipartisan effort with the Trump Justice Department's Republican Special Counsel to expose the details of the perversion of the 2016 US presidential election by a hostile foreign entity, a matter of the utmost national security.

In other words, we will have a new do nothing congress which will spend all of its time investigating.

I have no reason to share such a prejudice. The vast majority of Americans seem fairly sensible to me, regardless of their residence.

We are a nation of laws, and, regardless of all laws being ineffective to some extent, sensible ones are far superior to lawlessness. There is no reason to surrender to the level of firearm slaughter in the US.

In your words, perhaps, I neither said nor suggested that, but if it is what you need to believe, you will.

Progress does happen, sometimes unexpectedly. Women taking part in representative democracy is a major aspect of that:

Don't confuse prejudice with facts. Anyone who breaks in a house is out of the norm and cannot be counted upon to be sensible.
Once the declaration is made to investigate, it becomes an obsession and the democrats have already said as much.

You proclaimed that "Country folks have more sense," and I noted that I do not share that prejudice. I encounter sensible folks everywhere.

The Trump Justice Department, backed by confirmation of US intelligence services and the Republican-controlled Senate Intelligence Committee that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election to help Trump and hurt Clinton, determined the need to investigate.

It is a matter of vital national security.

There are sensible people everywhere. Those that come from the city into rural areas because they think country folk will be an easy mark, learn differently.
The problem is that it becomes an all consuming obsession. The democrats have already said as much.

BY defination, a wave election occurs when a party wins 30 or more house seats which causes the House to switch control. So we did indeed have a blue wave in the House elections. At last count the House stood at 225 Democrats, a net gain of 30, 197 Republican with 12 seats still to be decided. There is no such thing as a wave election in the senate since they only have 33 seats up in any one election. Same for governors. A wave election only applies to the house, which one did indeed occur.

The Democrats did pick up 7 governorships increasing their total from 16 to 23 with one race left to be called. The Republican advantage is down from 33-16 with one independent to 26-23 with one independent. True, the GOP did retain their edge, but that edge shrunk by quite a lot.

House first midterm election by president

Trump lost 30 and counting 12 races not decided. Lost control of the House

Obama lost 63 seats in 2010 Lost control of the House
Bush gained 8 seats in 2002 was in the majority, Kept control of the House
Clinton lost 54 seats in 1994 Lost control of the House
Bush lost 8 seats in 1990 Was in the minority
Reagan lost 26 seats in 1982 Was in the minority
Carter lost 15 seats in 1978 Was in the majiority, kept control of the house
Nixon lost 12 seats in 1970 Was in the minority
LBJ lost 47 seats in 1966 Was in the majority, kept control of the house
JFK lost 22 seats in 1962 Was in the majority, kept control of the house
Eisenhower lost 18 seats in 1954 Lost control of the house
Truman lost 28 seats in 1950 Was in the majority, kept control of the house
FDR gained 11 seats in 1934 Was in the majority, kept control of the house

The RP House did not keep its campaign promises. That often leads to election losses.

I find that I like Trump more every day.

The election is indeed a win for him.

His duel with the Media yesterday was classic and he made them look like chumps.

He got Acosta riled up enough to assault a White House Intern.

He had the rest of them practically foaming at the mouth in frustration.

I don't mind his wacky little tweets.......most of them have a design and a purpose if you look carefully.

All in all......considering his success with the economy and immigration........he can't be regarded as anything as a successful president.

I don't know anything about it because it is a non-issue. It's nothing like what the Republicans did in many different states. I can't even find a map showing how unspeakably horrible the Dems' "contorted and tortured districts" were after their redistricting.

How's this: All redistricting should be objective, non-partisan, fair, etc. etc.

So how do we do that? How about we have the Democrats' redistricting process and final outcome watched by two Republican observers, and vice versa? The observers may publish a documented objection if they feel it is appropriate. Documented objections must be corrected and cleared.

How many House seats were involved in those states you're complaining about?

Acosta pushed the intern's arm away and she dropped to her knees - probably protocol because Acosta held onto the mic.
The visual is very bad for Acosta and CNN.

If Trump had won any more he would have lost the Senate as well. :)
Oh, and most Americans woke up to a Democrat governor.

WAY WAY WAY MORE than they should have. Let's see you show me just ONE Democratic district that is as insane as any of these:

    Way more?

I asked for how many seats, and you failed to answer that simple question.

But, deciphering the maps, it appears one if from Florida. The entire state has 27 seat in the US House of Representatives.

The Dems gerrymandering in California controls TWICE than number. That's like gerrymandering TWO Florida's.

Come back with an argument based on knowledge and facts.
