This writer is an independent Republican so it would be completely understandable if Democrats dismiss the following comments as partisan rhetoric. It would be better for the Democrat Party and the country if Nancy Pelosi took herself out of the running for Speaker of the House both the Democrats and the country would be better served if the current Democrat House caucuse's number two or three, Steny Hoyer or James Clyburn, were selected to fill the role. It is not that Nancy Pelosi is a bad person her character is in the realm of the other two it is that her reputation and her style isn't the best for the job. Because of her tenure as Speaker during the President Obama years to much of the Republican electorate she has the persona of the devil! During that time the central political issue was the Affordable Care Act and although that law did many great things like giving subsidies to lower and middle income Americans enabling them to buy insurance and requiring communal pricing so people with pre-existing conditions could get affordable insurance it was disastrous for America in that it was too generous with the coverage mandates (should have done an incremental approach) an abundance of experts warned these mandates were going to cause skyrocketing insurance premiums and they in fact did. During this time Nancy Pelosi behaved tone deaf on this issue refusing to recognize this shortcoming in the law and in many other ways refused to recognize the overreach in the law uttering her famous line "we have to pass the law so we can learn what's in it"! In matters of style as a leader Nancy Pelosi has a hard edge to her, she is really cutting and that tends to alienate people and incite them to oppose you. An example of this would be her criticism of the 2017 Republican tax law when she said the bonuses the workers were getting from the law were crumbs, her position was right the selling point of the law by the Republicans was that it was going to raise wages and the facts don't bare that out corporate America kept the vast vast majority of the tax cut savings for themselves America's low and middle income workers didn't see their fare share; Ms. Pelosi uttering that biting remark though caused Republicans to latch on to that and fueled partisanship on the issue. The next Speaker to accomplish anything significant is going to have to tact a centrist course and attract bipartisan support and a Speaker candidate who has a proclivity for stabbing her opponents directly in the center of their most sensitive wounds does not have desirable make-up for fulfilling such a role!

Even before that question be asked, one must Prove the
theory.Meaning ... Where is it written or factual that a Democrat
did better for We the People. With certain Democrats being the exception.
That being a Daniel Patrick Moynihan or a Bill Bradley or a Sam Nunn.
Those type long ago gave up on the Democrat Party being Fair, balanced
and competent. And to add insult,Hillary Clinton carpetbagged her way
    into the saintly Moynihan seat.

Many of them realize she does more harm than good.

She presided over one of the most ineffective Congress's in history with the lowest approval rating.

Why any democrat would want her in a position of leadership is beyond me.

Take 2007 for example. Her first year as House Speaker.Basically all she
managed was naming new Post Offices. She also managed to Tick-Off
really bad the CIA who accussed her of Lying about knowing early on
about Waterboarding. She was among just a couple/few in Congress
who were briefed in 2002 about the technique of " Waterboarding " and
how it was used to get vital info from 9/11 masterminds.
She acted like she never even heard the term " Waterboarding ".
She held a Press Conference accusing the CIA of lying about what she
knew as far as " waterboarding ".

People liked her because she never questioned Obama, she was there to rubber stamp anything he told her to.

Just like now, if she keeps it, she will automatically oppose anything Trump wants whether its actually good legislation or not.

That is the job she is told to do and she will do it.

It really tickles my funny bone to see righties who at every opportunity vilified and complained about Pelosi when she acted effectively, but now will try to spin it and tell us that Pelosi is bad for Democrats.

Clearly, we can with full confidence completely disregard anything anyone on the right says about this. But the reality is that right now, at this time of Republican tricks, lies, and general insanity, we need someone who is very experienced, very capable, and has all the necessary connections in place so they can hit the ground running. And that is Pelosi.

The ongoing Pelosi speakership confirmation will tell you the truth. She needs 216 House votes. If there is any resistance then she won't get the speakership.

But if I'm right, she will get the speakership and appear to be the "moderate" of the democrats, which is complete BS. If the speakership was NOT an issue she would be just as nasty as she usually is. That's the way democrats get elected to office by the ignorant public.

Besides that, Pelosi SHOULD have been taken out of the leadership role whether minority or majority back when dems LOST THE HOUSE IN 2010!

Dems just keep reelecting the old guard every election.

Pelosi is one of the old timers with the power and they will soon show the new up-starts who rules. The new members are in for an education and a slap-down.

If Pelosi goes, then likely someone more Progressive would win speaker and I doubt conservatives really want that. It will likely be Pelosi, their actions on the ACA was supposed to be an incremental and transitionary system, but Republicans quickly seized the House and killed the ACA through political means and then blamed the murder of this policy approach on the victim. None of you understood his approach, and all of them failed to move an inch on this issue by intent from the beginning.

Obama's policy was merely supposed to be 1.0, which would involve future legislation to transition more of the private market to another system but the ACA held in mind the legacy private system and the future goal which would have to be attained over time. The GOP sadly serve the interests of corporations and will do anything to keep it privatized, but this is a fundamental divide that is ripping the country apart.

That's the lying liberal media's version of events.

During the 2010 election year, House and Senate representatives were literally ATTACKED by the people in Town Hall events. Dems held fast and marched in lock-step together in election after election, preventing the PEOPLE from getting things done in the legislature.

Dems paid dearly for that losing well over 1000+ seats across the board SINCE 2010, at local, state, and federal levels of power. They still have to catch up to their losses.

Why are Pelosi, Waters, Schiff, Cummings and others still in office since 2010?

I guess you dint bother to read post # 5.
In 2007 { Pelosi's first year as speaker } all she did was basically
    name New Post Offices.

I think she may be in for a rude awakening. And those like
James Clyburn { who in 2010 after losing her speakership and
refusing to step down as House Democrat leader decided } were
handed a New Title in Congress. As Assistant House leader.
Clyburn may for now have the Congressional Black Caucus
on his side as he makes the case to make sure and vote-in and
    support Pelosi as House Leader.
But Martha Fudge is rising Black star in the Democrat Party.
I don't believe the Congressional Black Caucus, given enough reason
and number of new support for Fudge as competing for the Pelosi
    speakership will stick by Pelosi.
Blacks are inherently Tribal. They almost always go by Skin color.
No way a very white " uppity old Italian female " like Pelosi
is going to be picked over some new rising black star like Martha Fudge.
In fact, the more Pelosi acts in supreme confidence she will remain the
Democrat House leader the more she is bound to have a rude awakening.

Nancy Pelosi is one tough bird. Republicans and tRump fear/hate her, and for good reason. The next two years are sure to be a showdown between smart Nancy and dumb Donald.

She is the perfect person to run interference for the Republican hate machine. She won't cry like Republicans do.

How pathetic a thing to insist. That Pelosi is one tough bird.
That would be on par with insisting that Woodrow Wilson or
Bull Connor were tough as nails.NO ... they were selfish, dedicated
ballbusting Bigots.Like this Kamala Harris,a true Radical bully.

Smart about precisely what? .What in her career has she accomplished for
the General welfare of American citizens. She's basically All Political
    Dopey Groupthink.
At Least John Boehner kept his word from 1990 that If Elected to
    Congress,he'd never take/use Earmarks.
Pelosi was so enamored with being speaker she managed to
have Government grant her own version of an air force one for
herself.Plus making sure her Washington D.C. Congressional
office has fresh cut flowers every weekday,on the public dime.

She knows how to control her caucus. That scares the Republicans because they never learned how to do that.
I don't care for her personality, but that's not what she gets paid for. What the Dems need to do is get her to train some punk kid to take over for her.

Did you see the news conference last week? The one where tRump made an a** out of himself, because he was butt hurt over the election and was taking it out on the reporters. Immediately following, Nancy Pelosi had a news conference. Comparing the two, Nancy clearly has more class, better manners, and is far more intelligent and knowledgable. No wonder right wing rhetoric smears her all the time.

Just think, Maxine Waters will soon have the supena power to see tRump's tax returns. Who has the low IQ now?

I wouldn't mind if she made 3 rd in line at the California Unemployment
Dept. { San Fransisco office }. Watch yer wording.Just using the word
" vessel " around graft-hogs like San Fran Nan may cause dreams of
    delusion.Like the State needs to offer her use of a very nice Yacht { vessel }
in order to schmooze future pols like a newer version of a Maxine Waters.
