I've never met a protestant who views the OT in that limited way, and I have 3 uncles and a cousin who spent their working lives as protestant pastors.

One who is NOT a Christian/Jew/Muslim can use the Bible in the same way you use the Qur'an. Such a person can point to slavery, to the slaughter of the Midianite men, women and children prisoners (except virgin girls who were distributed among the generals), the terrorism at Jericho, and then claim that these are the religions of evil.

The Bible means what it means in part due to the interpretation given to it by its adherents.

The same is true for the Qur'an. We find terrorist groups who claim justifications based on that book. But, that does not mean that those claims are legitimate or that the Islamic faith is supportive of such ideas.

Also, the violence sometimes attributed to religion usually has roots OUTSIDE of religion. So, simply identifying the religion of those involved can be massively misleading.

For one of the previously mentioned examples, the Catholic terrorism against Protestant England is well understood to have a religious component, but that it is NOT a characterization of Catholicism or of Protestant faiths.

American determined that a revolution was required when we experienced a tiny fraction of what Palestinians have experienced over a period of DECADES.

President Abbas cooperates with Israel's IDF in fighting AGAINST violence and demands that problems be solved by negotiation only - at a time when the grievances include ethnic cleansing, the bulldozing of the family homes of civilians, trade and travel are forcefully limited, where much of their population is ruled by foreign military law in which they have NO representation.

My apologies if you already answered that question in here somewhere but I am involved in so many discussions on so many subjects that I am humanly incapable of doing justice to every thread that I begin.

 

Much of what I write that many posters here on the forum may think are satire......
are actually quite serious so when I began this discussion:

My suggestion to any Palestinian official who may happen to research this proposal would be to begin to plan on breaking out of the policy that dates back to an idea put forward by a Russian President:

Russia and its influence on Mideast terrorism...

 

When the current Palestinian preside t moved to form a unity government with the Hamas leadership of Gaza he required that
- only nonviolent, diplomatic negotiations with Israel could be accepted, with the objective of living in peace along side a permenent state of Israel.
- there would be no seats dedicated to Hamas.
- borders of Gaza would be controlled by the unity government, which is incredibly important as that is how Hamas has been and is now being funded.

Hamas AGREED.

Netanyahu worked hard to defeat this unity government, using his power over Palestine - economic, tax confiscation, control over travel, stepping up aggression in his decade long war on Gaza, continued aggressive ethnic cleansing in West Bank, etc.

Netanyahu won his victory against the possibility of diplomacy and stability.

but I truly do believe that P. M. Benjamin Netanyahu has access to information that would astonish both you and I............ so I am sure he has valid reasons to treat that coalition as he has.

A fragmented Palestinian government is used by Netanyahu as a justification for considering all Palestinian government as illegitimate or at least less legitimate - even though the government of Gaza has for two decades now stated that they stand by West Bank as leading negotiations with Israel.

Also, it's well known that if Abbas controls the crossing points of Gaza, the resultant fees will no longer go to Hamas, making Hamas almost totally inefectual by defunding it. imho, this would collapse much of the claims of Netanyahu that his war decade long continuing war against Gaza is no longer valid, that his security claims are also no longer valid, etc.

The IDF considers Abbas their most important partner in securitty, as Abbas works closely with them against violent inciddents, terrorism, etc. If Abbas has governmental control of Gaza, Netanyahu's primary claim, that Israel is undder serious threat, loses steam.

Netanyahu has run on a platform of existeential security concern since his first entry into politics. It is the issue that has won him every one of the elections where he has won. He would lose if the important issues were the domestic issues of Israel - an area where he has nowhere near the required popular support.

Netanyahu NEEDS war.

 

The crimes of our fathers do NOT form a justification for the very same crimes of today.

Seriously, how could it possibly make sense that we can all commit whatever crime we can find in history?

But, I'm glad you at least recognizee the similarity between our crimes of slaughter and theft perpetrated against our first peoples and the crimes of Israel todday.
