https://www.kcra.com/article/teache...hool-due-to-pregnancy-out-of-wedlock/25406425 Yeah, I wonder how many non-Catholic teachers at Catholic schools feel pushed into getting abortions so they can keep their jobs.
Any place that would fire you for making your own private sexual decisions isn’t a place worth working at anyways.
The irony is that trying to set a good example for the students could be pushing some women into doing something that Catholics regard as even worse.
It’s a stretch. I doubt very many catholic women teachers are getting pregnant out of wedlock and are considering abortion. Not like they would know if they did anyways.
The irony of the irony is that the most women who identify themselves as a member of a religion who have had an abortion are Catholic.
While normal employers may not discriminate against pregnant employees, religious employers receive special protection for doing that which cannot be done onto them.
I think everyone and Catholics can agree that no woman should get fired from her job because she didn't get an abortion.
What has that got to do with the OP ? The woman in your OP was fired for being pregnant while unmarried......nothing to do with abortion.
Ever wonder what suffering the Catholic Church caused by forbidding women to use birth control? Quite a bit....and abortions are only part of it. Having more children then they could afford, the work and stress involved in raising and supporting those kids AND the secret (and dangerous ) abortions to ease the suffering of the woman and her present children. Women are viewed by the church as broodstock and worker drones......and have suffered because of it...there is no love and compassion there .
She got fired because their unjust act is protected by law. Religious people have preferred citizenship and live by a special set of rules. While it is unlawful to deny employment, housing, goods, or services on the basis of religions beliefs, those same beliefs allow them to do onto others that which cannot be done onto them.
I wonder whether the teacher could have been allowed to keep her job had she claimed she had never had sex out of wedlock but rather the pregnancy was a result of artificial insemination. I know Catholics wouldn't approve of that, but certainly it wouldn't be regarded as an outright sin, technically. Or maybe even she decided to go to a fertility clinic and be implanted with an embryo another couple was planning to have thrown away. From the Catholic point of view, the woman would have been saving the embryo from destruction.
That's no good. I could see the church/school putting her on LOA while pregnant so as to not expose a supposedly sinful lifestyle to the students, but firing her for being fruitful and multiplying seems very unChristlike.
Yes the same criminal organization that fosters and protects child rapists. Just the epitome of morality. We should all care less about what they think about anything.
Because (OBVIOUSLY to everyone except you) these type of policies will push women who had unsanctioned sex into abortions, some of whom might otherwise have decided to keep the baby. Through an abortion the woman can conceal the fact she had gotten pregnant. The woman is then essentially getting fired because she didn't have an abortion and didn't conceal the pregnancy which could have set a bad example for the students. Seems like the woman here is being punished for making a mistake and then doing the right thing rather than doing something even worse to cover it up. How many of these Catholic teachers, as much as they may be repulsed at the idea of abortion, are nevertheless going to come under pressure to get an abortion to keep their job?
FoxHasting's UNcherry picked post:"""What has that got to do with the OP ? The woman in your OP was fired for being pregnant while unmarried......nothing to do with abortion.""" Why? And why not? Abortion is legal. Yes, it is bad to pressure women into doing things like gestating and having abortions... BTW, what is "unsanctioned sex" ? What's wrong with that ? People do lots of things to keep their jobs. NO, she was fired for being single and pregnant. Pregnancy can end a woman's job, even in the 21st century. The "right thing" according to who? Women shouldn't be pressured into ANYTHING......they should make their own life decisions. Now can you explain why you had to dig up this old thread and ignore posts that refute or challenge you ?
I think there's more to it. Maybe I'm just being overly cynical here but I think what really bothers them is having a pregnant woman who is unmarried. Not so much that she had extramarital sex, or even if she got pregnant and had an abortion in secret. The appearance of doing the right thing, rather than actually doing the right thing. Of course I mean the right thing according to their standards. We're talking about a Catholic school. [Can't believe I'm actually having to explain this to you] just trying to point out the irony of what their policy is, compared to their [supposed at least] values.
FoxHastings said: ↑ NO, she was fired for being single and pregnant. (blue bolding above, mine) Uh DUH YA, that's what I just posted ...match the color blue to the color blue ….and what do you get??? The SAME thing... SHE DIDN'T. Uh, I don't think you need to point out the Catholic Churches , or any religion's , hypocrisy.
It may be bizzare but it is hardly uncommon and the Catholic Church is not the only employer to fire women for being pregnant. ( Although the Church can be more honest about why they fire single pregnant women than other employers.) There's probably been many women who had to choose between a job and a pregnancy.
I am sure there has. I am not surprised that this happens. What I find surprising/ bizarre is some group trying to defend such an action in this day in age. Further, it was not the pregnancy that was the issue for the Church - it was that the pregnancy was out of wedlock.
Well, with more Pro-Life employers we would hope there would be less of this type of discrimination, wouldn't we? I've noticed that many on the "Pro-Choice" side of the fence are not actually pro-choice at all, but if they were the employer would be likely to fire a female employee for not choosing abortion. There was even a case where an abortion worker got fired from a Planned Parenthood clinic for being pregnant. (apparently they thought having their customers see a pregnant employee wasn't good for business) https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/...se-planned-parenthood-of-discrimination-64579
