As of today, the shutdown has cost the U.S. an estimated $3.7 Billion.

And $5.7 Billion, of course, is not even the true cost of Donnie's wall, which is ~$25 billion initially and ~$25 billion every seven years to maintain. That is just the amount of money for which donnie was willing to shut down the government.* All the more reason for Donnie to get on that Mexico paying for the wall plan. Isn't two years long enough for the greatest deal maker in history?

*And by donnie, I, of course, am referencing Fox & Friends being willing to abandon him because he wouldn't fight for the wall after losing the midterms in a historic fashion

Now we see this isn't about the wall. We see Trump in thrall to his base. I suspect he doesn't really care about the wall but he can't back down or his base will slaughter him. He's definitely hoist with his own petard and that petard is about to blow up.

800,000 workers who have no money to spend will have impact. Government don't need to support, but it also need to get out of the way.

An economy that is dependent on government spending is a a poor economy.

I'm curious because I see Govt and the countries economy as interdependent (can't have a Govt without an economy that creates the resources necessary to fund said Govt, and you can't have a Govt without an economy because then your just a group of people yelling into the wind with out any ability to do anything)

That money comes out of productive sectors of the economy before it goes into the pockets of gov workers, minus the portion siphoned by the corporatists

That money must come out of productive sectors of the economy before it can go into the pockets of the army of largely unproductive bureaucrats, minus the portion that enriches corporatist politicians and their buddies in industry

Is this a real question? Seriously?

Do you think the economy is currently doing well? That a significant percentage of the population is getting rich?

How's the US debt right now?

The United States is a poor economy in your mind? The Chinese economy? The Russian economy? The European Union?

What the actual **** do you think you are talking about? Can you name me a single economy that you consider to be strong and yet does not rely on government spending?

No, we can't all get rich together on a debt based economy. That's all our economy has been for decades

Yeah, and without Govt you'd still be working 7 days a week, no minimum age requirements, etc..etc..

Govts role in the Economy is to set the stage, and play referee. Prosecute those who would harm people to save a buck, and make sure the labor force can exist outside of the 'work-life' cycle and actually enjoy the fruits of their labor.

the illegal drug trade. I don't think you and I agree on what 'stable' means.

Also, I agree. Managed Markets based on Capitalism using Govt to referee and keep the excesses in check is the best system possible.

Those laws and regulations are still in effect, yet we're talking about the economy being harmed
