Forget all the riles for crating a thread, thus, not sure if this is taken down or not. Guess that should be part of everyone's post. China is WINNING, Trump is Losing...

Someone else can post the new numbers that came out on Trump's approval rating, which is down yet again. Even with the white male who is finally catching on. High School educated that is... To Those guys, - told ya so...

How long before Trump just QUITS like the Narcissistic baby that he is.. That is what they do when they finally hit that wall of accountability and Truth. They QUIT ! Comments like "no one appreciates all the work I do, thus, I am done TRYING to help the country"

Once he knows for a fact he can't win again, that is when he quits.

The trade deficit is up but imports from China are down and the lowest since 2013. The Chinese economy is slowing down significantly, in part because of the tariffs.

Why doesn’t China just want simple free and equal trade? Your answer reveals the truth.

China is definitely losing the trade war. But so are we.

The only winners in any trade war are the countries which do not participate.

I favor free trade over protectionism or tariffs. China's policy of stealing intellectual property and currency manipulation is the only justification. I'd give it a couple quarters more but am admittedly skeptical.

I have a confession to make. It was my wife that caused it.

    I'm just curious.
Does anyone remember thinking that is to expensive I'm not going to buy it and then noticing it was made in China? I can't, but then everything I pick up is made in China or S. Korea.

The workers who are hired to manufacture the products that are no longer imported also win.

Unfortunately for us, China's workers don't have much power. The govt do literally do anything they want to them.

"Exports to the U.S. rose 11.3 percent on-year in 2018, while imports from the U.S. to China rose 0.7 percent over the same period."

In the short-term, we're losing. Long-term, if we stay the course? This should hopefully reinvigorate American markets to become self-sufficient for the first time in half a century, as cheap imports are lesser and lesser to come by. Fixing 50 years of selling out American infrastructure was not going to be a one or two term thing, but a philosophy agenda for the United States.

The true test is going to come when/if we go back to being a major importer of cheap imports. If so, then the Trump years meant nothing and our economy goes back to being subservient to the Chinese and the military will not be able to hold off that reality for too much longer.

We will continue to buy low even if we get screwed. It's our nature. The players may change though. Brazil, Viet Nam and India may get a larger piece. Mexico could also benefit if the trade deal with them gets ratified.

Would I have used tariffs to address this issue? Not really, because as noted: The pain to our consumer base and thus to the economy in the short term. For all the talks about our gains, if we were without the tariff war and more political confidence in Washington, I think we could've done more.

That's my biggest regret so far about the Trump Presidency: We could have done more.

I do think we should've gone through the WTO and made a power play: Either remove China from the WTO, or to more strictly enforce the rules so that the rules are indeed 'fair and balanced'. The WTO is probably as substantial as the NAFTA issues were, and both could've been combined into a single item objective so as to give a olive branch to the EU/Canada side.

I do think that rather than tariffs, we should've encouraged American businesses to seek imports elsewhere, and government-oriented action elsewhere(IE: Reducing our dependence on the Chinese, but without the financial sticker shock.) If the Chinese retaliated, it would've been financial aggression on their part.

Free trade isn't about equal trade. If I want to buy some items on amazon.com, the government does not dictate to me how much or how little I need to buy from them, or whether or not amazon must buy something from me in return. I as a consumer I am free to make the decision on my own of how much I choose to buy from which companies. Free trade is this same basic principle, but on an international level

That's about what raising tariffs is good for, which is exactly why economists generally do not advocate for raising tariffs.

Sure. There are some winners in a trade war. There are just many, many more losers.

One of the many reasons why America is terrible at trade wars.

Because you are the only seller is your DOLLAR (yuan/ Renmbini) is the much lower currency. 7 to 1. They have cheaper labor, lower benefits, etc. Thus, they are us in 1960 selling to an US in 1990. Big benefits for them. I import my product from there. Buy low, sell high... Once the corps. were allowed to do it in 1980s with no tariffs attached, it destroyed us for the benefit of 100K people and 5000 corps. Everyone else suffered, especially the UNION jobs, and regular jobs that paid well at the smaller factories making thousands of products like mine. Lawn chairs, bowls, refrigerators, A/C, staplers, lights, etc. those things cost 3x more to make here because we are much more advance society. It really is that simple.
Had Reagan/Bush stopped the cheap labor from coming into this country and at the same time put tariffs on products coming in (BACK THEN... 80s) all would be well. It a coffee kettle cost 10$ make here in 1982 and 1$ in China, the tariff should be 90% to keep the work here. Also, that simple ! EVEN STEVEN.

I pay 20$ from china and use to pay 32 here 10 years ago, I still dont have an increase yet have increased my prices due to shipping costs here, and co op, other BS, accounting costs, shelving, etc. Here, every rich corp. with power is using it to wipe out the small business guy one dollar at a time. Check out SPS Commerce, every mfg. that sells to any big box store has to use them or alternate to process ORDERS and you have to pay for it. It would be like you going to the grocery store to buy food, but they stopped you at the door and said (gonna cost 5$ to get in and 1$ to rent a cart) SCAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tariffs are good if initiated ASAP on products that compete. Waiting 40 years does nothing. China has built an empire on the backs of very rich business corps. here in our country. Probably 50K people here have made a fortune and they are the TYPE to care less about our nation or the people in it. Get ready for what will come, the CREDIT crisis of all time, it will be 1929 all over again, only with the backstop of TV, CRAMERS on CNBC telling you it is all ok... Schmucks in office telling people to not worry and so on while they all go broke. In the end, they will cut rates and print much more money diluting the American dollar while China, Russia, and India prosper. We are in big big trouble and the sheeple have not a clue !

Actually agree with this even tho my stuff comes from China. Problem is, they have the market cornered on so many things... It is BIG business here that controls that outcome, not you or I, or even Trump. He is losing big time and wil QUIT soon, he wont run again. He will state "no one appreciates the things I have done for the nation, MSM lie about me, no one cares, I am the best and that is it, if people dont beg me, I wont run again" This is how a narcissist feels about themselves.

I'm aware of the credit/debt crisis(and Student Debt crisis). There should've been positive momentum after Obama's election for liquidating the debt back then. Unfortunately, Congress never got around to it. We must indeed get around to it now. The Nationalization and liquidation of these debts will be seen in some economic centers as controlling, but I actually think it is the one thing the Authoritarian nations have right, and I think a middle ground can be established even in our democratic-oriented countries(as a Nationalist, I disdain democracy, but hey what can I do/say? It's what we're calling it) so that such controls are temporary until financial order is restored.

The sort of economic growth where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is not interesting to me.
