Guaranteed the team enjoyed that more than a stuffy dinner with white linens, afraid to speak incorrectly in front of an easily triggered snowflake like our former POTUS. ALSO guaranteed, if Trump did a big fancy gala, the MSM would have jumped all over his ass for wasting money in the time of a shutdown on frivolous things. **** the MSM and screw Progressives and their hypocrisy=) Has Trump accepted a paycheck yet? And by the way, if you look back at his history, he's been quite generous....infinitely more than Obama and the Clintons combined.

Just Imagine what the Cook thinks. He must be beside himself... Hire me and this is who I get ? Or maybe it is Trump Personal chef from Mar a Largo. Regardless, really bringing the Nation down to OKY DOKY level.

Oh I have no doubt that they ate the food. They are 300 pound dudes who live in the south, after all. And I am sure some of them thought the idea of going to the white house to eat the same **** that they eat while drunk at 2 am is funny, but I got to imagine that most of them - when they learned what that supposed multi-billionaire chose to serve them with his own money in the white house -had a "wait...what" moment.

That's a really, really desperate stretch.

The man is worth billions (supposedly) and there are several restaurants in the DC area capable of providing catering services. If he didnt want to delay, fine, but serving the same **** these guys eat at 2 am while drunk on silverplatters and by candlelight is a perfect analogy for his presidency.

Cheap **** with a thin vaneer of class.

McDonalds and Wendy's have more international locations than just about any restaurant located in the DC area.

Forced? Sounds like he voluteered to do it. Nothing requires him to feed these players, let alone even have them to the WH. Very nice and wonderful thing for the President to do for the National Champs.

Does anyone think for one second Obama, or any Dem, would have dipped into their own pocket for something like this?

Secondarily, please remember that he cannot defer to his civilian-billion$$$ while he is our Commander-In-Chief where primarily he has a Federal GOVT full of people not receiving paychecks these days. Therefore in light of their real time nightmare then it would have been bigger than just, politically incorrect, if Trump would have honored these champions by laying out an expensive hi-class spread.

No... of course not... ALL past presidents would have used the WH budget allocated for just these purposes to get real food. If the WH caterers was unavailable, they would have had the WH protocol official (which I sure is another vacant post in this administration) find a nice local restaurant in DC to provide non-embarrassing meals (See Post 57).

This thread does unintentionally sum up the Trump administration as a real low class effort...

Agreed Dems would have used tax dollars...

So you're issue is with the taste of food the President likes? These are college students, not the Queen of England....he paid out of pocket for some junk food for the kids and to celebrate their win...calm down sparky

This is simply not based in, logic, since the Fed GOVT is shutdown. Therefore Trump using the WH Budget, for this, would've been both 1)an embarrassment as well as 2)new Dem's ammo.

The budget is still allocated, regardless of the shutdown, just for purposes like this. I would have no problems if he had had meals brought in from a real restaurant, and neither would any Dem. Even some chicken and steak dinners brought in from the closest Applebees would have been preferable. Or somebody could have put some minimal thought into it and decided many of these guys could have been from the south and brought in some nice pulled chicken and brisket BBQ sandwiches. YUM!

What if tonite was a pre-scheduled state dinner for.... say... the King of Norway (a predominantly white country)? What do you think would happen then? McDonalds and Wendys? But the good thing about this administration is we don't have countries wanting to visit Washington anymore.

If you use the WH for ceremony, regardless of the level of persons being honored, you really should try to project a little class, even for a classless person.

It is not a dispute of the money being available, it is an issue of symbolism within this current climate/real time GOVT shutdown which makes it a poor choice for Trump to use WH budget for purchasing a hi-class spread.

This isn't an official "ceremony" either, and that is why the public never knows about these type of visits until after the fact or if some controversy is involved.

I swear you all get triggered over the most mundane things. Sit back, smoke a bowl and chow down some solyent green. It'll be alright.

For some reason, I do think that the surrealistic vibe of it all is much more memorable for the invitees.
The view of a 1000 MacDonalds & Wendy's boxes on top of it each other on golden plates, with chandeliers and people in suits all around will be a cool story to tell. A proper buffet would have been quite mundane.

Whether it all was actually tasteful is a different matter. Hamburgers grilled in stacks of maybe a dozen, then brought all the way to the whitehouse, passing various security checks, then put onto plates in nice orderly staples, then photographed etc etc... They must have been stone cold by the time the players could eat them, maybe like 1-1.5hours with only the little boxes to keep them warm.
But as I said.... gives stories to be told
"Remember when we were at the white house eating cold fries and burgers from a silver plate?"

This thread really makes me wonder why Dems hate pizza so much? Were you all always anti pizza? Is it the cheese?

Who on here has pushed for a 'hi-class' spread? I would have just hoped for a 'some-class' spread...

Frankly, I think a non-fancy spread for a bunch of college athletes could have been cute and fun, if done right. Platters or BBQ sandwiches or Steak and Cheeses would have been a nice photo op. I agree that white tablecloth food for these dudes would have been strange for all. But 'boxes' of the cheapest food available in America??? Filet of Fish??

But I generally agree with you that only Trump could have put controversy into this type of visit... he does have a special talent for occasionally having decent ideas, but completely blowing the execution (assuming any of this was really his idea).

Anything to criticize Trump. Everything must be denigrated, no matter how small, or otherwise insignificant.

And the left goes nuts over, fast food. Because it's fast food. Because fast food discriminates. They don't take ebt. It must be evil....
