For lefties, words are action. That is why they think proposing a solution is the actual solution.

    Actions speak louder than words.

No, it was not. I know that you, and most of the people in the country, aren't aware that Codels are quite common. The Congress contingent was to speak with commanders of the allied forces to receive intelligence regarding strategies, outcomes and projections. Congress needs to be informed from the source for it's Congress that has the power to declare war when necessary. It's all for our own national security and these trips are very common, we don't hear about them, they're not covered by press, so we aren't aware they take place, but they do.

This trip was NOT a PR 'stunt' as you call it for the simple reason that our military are non-partisan and that is precisely why Trump's speech got a very cold reception at the Pentagon yesterday. He made it political and they weren't having any of it. There was dead silence among those in attendance. If you recall, right after his inauguration in Jan 2017, Trump made a speech at CIA Headquarters and made it totally political by lashing out at critics, boasting about his magazine covers and exaggerated the size of the crowd at his inauguration.

That is what a political PR stunt looks like and our CIA, Generals and Commanders of our Armed Forces at the Pentagon or overseas do not appreciate that one bit.

Pelosi going to Afghanistan is pure political theater and unnecessary.

This incident demonstrates clearly what many already know--our government is run by a bunch of petulant children. We have the government we deserve.

Your assertion than Nancy needs to visit theatre to be briefed is absurd as is your attempt to deflect by making false accusations about trump.

Neither reckless nor hateful. Just a fan of America and an enemy of the swamp. Explain to me why I should believe that Trump had anything to do with your school board. Politics is ugly. It is humanity at its worst. Yes he was petty, just like Pelosi.

I read this whole tread and not one word about what all this was about. Our government is in shutdown and the House of Representatives holds the key if we will reopen the government or keep it closed. Apparently Pelosi cannot call for a vote on the floor if she is out of the country. Next week is the MLK holiday and no work will get done until the representatives come back to work. So we our looking at about 2 weeks of inaction towards a settlement. The President will be in his office and ready to sign into law any legislation passed by the House of Representatives and the Congress. If Ms. Pelosi thinks that there is not enough security to protect our elected officials during the State of the Union speech she should be thrilled that the President cancelled her trip for her own protection. He not only cancelled her trip but also the trip of some Senators and Cabinet officials for their economic trip to Davos, Switzerland. He also cancelled his trip there. All you people on the Left might hate him but he is going to run this country like a business and cut waste where he sees it. National Security of our country is his top priority and according to the Constitution he feels as if protecting our borders is his mandate to keep us safe from external dangers.

    Trump is "the swamp."
The former school board chairman was a vindictive freebooting con artist, just like Trump. He harassed teachers, ended up getting sued for firing some of them (he lost), appointed administrators because they were "yes men/women," created curriculum coordinator positions to spy on teachers and administrators, corrupted the purchasing process to award contracts to himself and cronies, and did his best to rule by fear.
It doesn't have to be ugly. As a teacher in the school district, I got the teachers' union to drop pushing a leftwing agenda and then support replacing a radical rightwing school board with a conservative board in a conservative community (we have a Christian university). I helped bring conservatives and liberals together in the community to support specialty schools--a K-12 back-to-basics school, a K-12 fine arts school, a Montessori elementary school, K-12 language immersion in several district regions, and an academic high school. Thirty years later all these changes are still in place, and the community across the political spectrum still supports their schools. The teachers' union has excellent relations with all parts of the community and never returned to its radical roots.

When the discredited school board chairman tried to reenter politics in the community years later by running for city council, he met so much opposition that he dropped his candidacy. It was nice to see people didn't forget his performance.
Pelosi baited Trump and the fool went for it. She'll do it again, too.

The Senate can pass the Republican bills the House passed last last week and reopen the government without Pelosi having to be present.
All Trump has to do is ring up Mitch and tell him he'll sign the Senate bills if he gets them. Mitch can't object to passing the bills the GOP Senate already supported.
She has going to take commercial flights until Trump gave her agenda away.
Yeah, sure--he's a cutting machine ... from the golf course where he spends his time and from in front of the big screen tv he uses to watch cable news.

You're just making up BS about him running the government like a business.
Trump is Trump's "top priority." He wouldn't be jerking troops out of Syria too soon if he cared about national security.

So Trump being the commander-in-chief doesn't make any difference?

At any rate, if you're arguing that Trump lacks firm principles and is guilty of hypocrisy, then I won't disagree with you. Still, he did the right thing, even if it was hypocritical. What does Nancy Pelosi hope to accomplish by visiting Afghanistan? We've been there since 2001. It's a hopeless quagmire. We need to negotiate some kind of deal with the Taliban and then leave.

So you have your own definition of the swamp. I was talking about the one that fits everyone else's definition.

In short Trump had nothing to do with it but you can't resist getting a dig in every chance you get.

Not only does it not have to be ugly but it should not be ugly. The problem is that the wringer we put candidates through discourages all the good candidates from running. All we get are people who put political power above what the rest of us consider important. These are the last people that should have political power.
I taught high school for one year. While I enjoyed the work, dealing with the working environment was not worth the salary. So I became a businessman. That has worked out far better for me. Nothing would draw me into politics.

So, you don't think Congress voted the money for her trip? I didn't know Fatso had a line item veto.

Because his trip was a PR event, and nothing more. He didn't go to visit those young people and show that he is thinking about them, for sure. As a matter of fact, he made a political thing out of it.

    Your piece reads curiously outdated.

We had this, sort of, status quo for the last two years where Trump fumbled around with dictators and pornstars, while blatantly trashing the politics he was elected to represent.
It was all pretty bad and the lesson learned is; never again should anybody who has not, at a minimum, served some term as an elected official be able to run for President of the United States.

But now the status quo is over. There's no way in hell we're going back to Trump being a clueless clown and everybody else trying to figure him out while normal politics suffer.

This shutdown is either gonna end with the end of President Trump or, if the shutdown continues, it will be the end of the country.

All other debate has become obsolete. This is no longer about politics because Trump has said bye bye to it. This is no longer about funding a wall (it never was) but Trump's excuse to argue with the Democrats and close down the country.

And why did Trump do that?

Well, obviously its retaliation for Democrats winning back the majority in Congress.
You could see it coming two years ago. Trump might as well have yelled that the Democrats were going to pay for any mid-term victory.
And now he is using the country as a sledge-hammer to vent his frustration.

So we can keep debating Trump's motives until were blue in the face. But if his motives have nothing to do with a real wall or genuine politics, what's there to talk about?

If I were a military fighter jock, I wouldn't have any problem fitting Melania into the cockpit of my military fighter and flying her to Florida.

American soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen all love Melania.

I figure I'm in the majority in thinking Trump is a crook.
Wrong. Trump is a carbon copy of that jerk--the same bragging, dishonesty, lying, bullying, laziness, and incompetence. The way to beat Trump is to do to him exactly what I did to the school board jerk. Pelosi baited him with changing the State of the Union and he stupidly bit by canceling her Afghanistan trip.

So many fallacious conclusions drawn in that post and it's so close to being unadulterated Gish gallop that I'm somewhat flumexed where to begin or if to bother but just for fun...

I would offer the exact opposite conclusion and profer the argument that a private citizen with no political background has given the coterie a lesson in how to run government and that's why they are so desperately seeking to destroy his presidency. He has succedded where they have historically failed on multiple fronts and his very presence is a threat to their continued dominion in DC.

Wishful thinking in the first instance hyperbole in the second. This shutdown will either end when democrats realize they are losing in this blatant bow to their extreme left base with their active participation in the "resistance" and shutting down government in quest of a political victory or when Trump caves in his attempt to increase border security which is looking less likely by the day.

Kind of like "settled science"? LOL

No need for that. Trump's motive is clear and a two word answer. Border security.
