Looks as though democrats don't think the shutdown is going well for them. Must be some internal polling showing it's not having the desired effect and hurting them more than Trump. Then again it could be the acknowledgement that the longer this debate goes on the more people support the wall or maybe both. Obviously Dems are cracking here and looking for a way out. Fortunately their little procedural trick failed.

"Chaos briefly broke out on the floor of the House Thursday as Republicans accused Democrats of trying to pull a fast one with a hasty vote to end the partial shutdown.

The drama began in the afternoon when the Democratic-controlled House held a voice vote on an interim spending bill to re-open the government through February 28.

Customarily, after a voice vote is held, the opposition party will demand a recorded roll call vote. But when no one was heard, North Carolina Rep. G.K. Butterfield, who was presiding over the House, did not hold a roll call vote and instead announced that the measure was approved.

“The ayes have it!” Butterfield announced. “The Joint Resolution is agreed to!”

Your opinion on Mitch is noted but the fact remains this move by democrats shows they are looking for a way out so something about the shutdown is scaring them. They thought they could destroy Trump with this but obviously something is going wrong with their plan.

    Yes, it's called empathy....

The House has been attempting to get the govt open since 1/3. None of those attempts have been submitted to the Senate for a vote... Who's scared again?

Oh noe? But I thought when the Dems won the house and handed Trump such a crashing defeat, Nancy and the house were gonna run the country?

Democrats did not want a recorded vote for good reasons. They do not want a record of the vote.

You should see the Twitter replies to democrats calling for the Senate to act. They are funny.

At least Hoyer agreed to a recorded vote next week but he complained about a republican telling a democrat to 'Go back to Puerto Rico' withhout realizing it referred to their fun in the sun with lobbyists.

They still only control 1/3 of the legs of government, and from where I'm sitting, they are doing their job. Trump? Doing some of his... McConnell? Zero.

You mean by not passing a useless bill that will not get signed? Now that's some negotiation there eh?

While watching news coverage of the shutdown recently, Trump turned to acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, clearly heated. A person with knowledge of the conversation told the Times that Trump said: "We are getting crushed! Why can't we get a deal?"
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Trump deals with the shutdown — his poll numbers dropping, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) asking him to reschedule or drop the State of the Union address, and other debacles — Mulvaney is figuring out his new role in the White House.

Saw video of the exchange. Dems tried to pull a slick move.

    It didn't work.

Dems can be read like an open book.

The trick is to look at what they do, not what they say (always a lie).

    1/3 is 1/3 more than 0/3....

It's sad but I'm still laughing that the government was shutdown when it was 0/3

If a border wall is useless then so is the government that thinks that

Democrats are not interested in opening government. They think this plays well politically. That is why they celebrated in Puerto Rico with lobbyists.

The longer govt stays shut down, the more folks think it should stay that way.
