Trump Slaps De-Facto Oil Ban on Venezuela

The Trump administration dealt its toughest blow yet to the authoritarian Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, issuing new sanctions on the nation’s state-owned oil company PDVSA that effectively block his regime from exporting crude to the U.S.

The move ratchets up pressure on Maduro to resign and cede power to National Assembly leader Juan Guaido by cutting off the regime from the market where it gets the bulk of its cash. The U.S. and other countries recognized Guaido last week as Venezuela’s rightful president, and he said Monday he would take control of Venezuelan accounts abroad and appoint new boards to PDVSA and its Houston-based subsidiary Citgo Petroleum.


...As of Monday, all PDVSA assets and property subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, according to a Treasury statement, and U.S. citizens and companies are generally prohibited from doing business with the Venezuelan firm. The move is consistent with the Trump administration’s efforts to starve Maduro of oil money, while still blunting the potential impact on U.S. refiners and U.S. motorists, said Jim Lucier, managing director of Washington, D.C.-based Capital Alpha Partners.

Maduro needs removed and jailed. But are you under the impression Juan Guaido is not a left leaning politician?

 

Trump does this and the lefties screech he is in bed with the Koch brothers and big oil.

He's probably not politically aligned with Cuba, Russia, China, etc.

 

Putin hasn't been this mad since Trump destroyed 200 Russian mercs in Syria last year.

At the very least, he is the duly elected leader of Venezuela. In this case, we are truly aiding the people and the state of Venezuela. Trump has my full approval to continue to conduct these operations until Maduro ceases to wield political power.

 

But she is a duly elected representative of her district. So what does that tell you?

 

Nary a lefty thinks it's wrong because it's equal misery for all except the ruling class.

Venezuela has good quality crude oil. Comparable to the grade we import from the ME.

Ineptness and corruption created the crises in Venezuela....

The Trump administration made the only sane move in regard to our oil imports and cash flow.

We ...the US is a long way off any resolution on this crisis...and this is only the first step.

I know there is so little to celebrate these days...but lets wait until the National Assembly gets the backing of all lawmakers and courts and can ...by rule of law oust Maduro.

 

The fact remains Trump is using what he can to oust the failed socialist Maduro.

Its not for us to resolve but the venezuelans.

We will just look out for our best interests.
