He is an Aussie, who cares what his opinion is on what we in the US have written into our constitution. Do I care that Australia was once a penal colony and most of the population was comprised of the castoff criminals sent there from the UK? Kangaroo leather does make a nice pair of boots though. They shoot them from helicopters in Queensland.

The United States came into being because of our guns when we kicked the royal English asses out and formed our own country. We no longer wanted to be subjects and the guns made it happen. We had to kick their royal asses out again in 1812. Yes, gun freedom does bring problems, as does automobile ownership, alcohol, and addicting substances. It's kind of like blaming the knife and fork for one's obesity.

As an Aussie myself I don't find him funny.

As an Australian gun owner, the problem with our gun control isn't the control itself. Anyone with $200 and 28 days can get a gun no problem. Anyone willing to join a club and shoot every other week can get a semi-auto handgun.

The problem is all the irrational bullshit around it. In large part, the problem is the police. They go beyond what the law prescribes to deter anyone from bothering with the process.

We have legal access to indisputedly the gun most desired by actual criminals - handguns.

Personally I think the Czech Republic hit the perfect mix.

    ___________

As far as the US goes, there are other factors there, as none of the unique aspects of US policy lead to their gun homicide rate.

Their gun homicide rate isn't due to legal access to full auto rifles with an NFA license. These firearms are not used in crime.

Concealed carry is used by the Czechs and they have a lower gun homicide rate than us and less mass shootings. By the way, their mass shooting was with a handgun legal in Aus, not one of their legal semi auto rifles.

**** the US. Look at the Czechs, who have shall issue concealed carry, legal semi auto rifles under a strict license, etc.

That's all I've ever really wanted, and the facts show this would lower our gun homicide and mass shooting rates.

We have been through this before and I exhaustively cited all the facts, they're a search function away. I am busy.

If guns are so bad why don't we hear about constant killings in gun factories?

If Jim Jefferies was reading that I'm sure he'd find a joke about it. Like...."its not a bullet factory, just a gun factory."...
I think Jefferies was highlighting the excuses used by pro gun owners to own one....yours is a ripper.

Do your stats include suicides? Over 1/2 of US gun deaths are suicide. Do you have the drug problem the US has? Between suicides and drug crime, they make up around 75% of gun homicides. From an anti-gun source:

Some gun facts that dispute what some of the resident gun banners say.

You're three years older on average for one thing, for another far less polyglot especially beyond Sydney, for another you had a lower gun morbidity rate than us before you passed your bans and the change before and after is barely noticeable,

All you've done is force people to substitute one murder weapon for another. You haven't saved anyone's life.

Start taking in a million people a year from the worlds most violent countries and let's see how that works out for you.

Unconstitutional. You can't price self defense out of the reach of poor folk. Should only the wealthy have the right to self defense? Chris Rock is an idiot.

Australia takes around 200,000 legal migrants each year (2016 stat). We have a population of 25 million. (8% intake of pop)
USA took around 1.2 million legal migrants. ( According to the 2016 Yearbook of Immigration Statistics, the United States admitted 1.18 million legal immigrants in 2016.) You have a population of 323 million (2016) (4% intake of pop)

Now, back to the Jim Jefferies joke? Actually I like the musket concept...and the $5,000 per bullet idea

Yeah, from the UK, NZ, China, and Vietnam.

How about taking in a few hundred thousand Somalians every year?

    Interested?

Your Govt's poor decisions is not my concern. Perhaps you can start up that topic in another thread?

I see you don't get the relevance.

    Let me help.

You see, people who use guns to commit crimes are violent people.

People who are not violent or looking to kill others don't use guns, or knives, or their fists to kill others....even when they own those things.

    People who are violent do.

The gun is not the problem. The people you allow in your country is the problem.

    Ask the UK.
