Jack Holmes is the Politics Editor at Esquire.com, where he writes daily and edits the Politics Blog with Charles P. Pierce. There's also a dash of sports and some feature writing. His work has appeared in New York magazine and The Daily Beast.

The following are excerpts from Jack Holmes' January 29, 2019 article headlined "Look at This Embarrassing FXXXXXg Moron" with the subheading "The president tweets, for the umpteenth time, that climate change is not real because it's cold outside."

    (Begin excerpts)
Among the many joys of the Trump Era is the knowledge that if it is cold somewhere, odds are the President of the United States will crow that it's proof climate change is not real. Yes, the world's most powerful man has, over and over again, treated the fact that it's cold outside as evidence that the idea the planet is getting warmer is not the result of decades of work by hundreds of scientists across dozens of countries, but is in fact a hoax cooked up by the Chinese....

A dangerous cold front is sweeping the midwest this week, so it was time for another Official Message from the President uniquely calibrated to once again make the whole world dumber.

Donald Trump tweeted on January 29, 2019:

"In the beautiful Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded. In coming days, expected to get even colder. People can’t last outside even for minutes. What the hell is going on with Global Waming? Please come back fast, we need you!"

This man is allergic to books. He is so deeply incurious about the world you wonder how he's learned to navigate outside Mar-a-Lago or his golden apartment in the sky. He is, quite simply, the Dumbest Man Available, and we made him president. This is another piece of red meat for the reactionary Base, whose only goal is to maintain power with which to pXXs off liberals. His aides will pass it off as a "joke," despite the fact that this attitude is reflected in his administration's policy. It is particularly fXXXXXg infuriating because we learned just this month that the oceans are warming faster than we thought, Antarctica and Greenland's ice sheets are melting faster than we thought, and in general, the climate crisis is likely even worse than climate scientists—who are actually fairly conservative in their public messaging—were previously willing to say outright.

We can explain how climate is not the same as weather. We can run through how 2018 was hotter than any year on record, in terms of global temperatures, except for three: 2015, 2016, and 2017. We could mention how 2018 was the hottest year on record for the planet's oceans, and the previous hottest ever was 2017. The top five hottest years for ocean temperature have occurred since 2014. But what's the point? Like the phony Republican concern about the national debt Trump has opted to completely ignore, he honestly does not care because he'll be dead when the sXXt hits the fan. It's just reactionary bXXXsXXt....

Someday, we'll just have to tell our kids we didn't do a dXXn thing—and, in fact, sent a guy named Wells Griffith to an international climate conference to advocate for burning more coal—because we elected The Big Dumb President, and that's just the way it goes. (End excerpts)

yup I'm afraid it's true you may have very well elected the dumbest president ever, a genuine Chauncey Gardiner...and I'm quite sure he's mentally unbalanced as well...

To be fair, every time there is a heat wave or drought somewhere in the world the cause must be Global Warming, according to the media, political activists, and a few so called scientists.

Not that any of this matters, people will never be willing to alter their lifestyle to the degree necessary to have any effect on atmospheric CO2 concentrations.

The left continues to be completely clueless as to why Trump was elected. Trump is mocking those alarmists on the left who continually claim that any flooding, hurricane, heat wave, tornado, thunderstorm, ... is the result of global warming/climate change.

Perhaps because your data, you facts and figures have very little to do with reality? If 2018 was hotter than any other year on record (we hear this every year) why did the United States set so many low temperature records?

Also, you might want to check you "facts" and make sure they aren't complete lies.

And still better than the other option because we are not at war with Russia like she wanted.

The alarmists refuse to educate themselves on global warming. It is very clear that the periods of global warming in our present interglacial period which is now ~ 10,000 years old have been very beneficial to humans. The Minoan, Roman, Medieval, and current warm periods are periods of great human civilization progress. The intervening cold periods are not labeled as dark ages for nothing. Out of the last 10,000 years ~ 6000 of those years have been warmer than now.

And it is politically impossible for any democratic government to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Totalitarian governments won’t do anything to reduce their economic growth and their power.

But they'll argue that it's warming at a faster rate. Nevermind they had to fudge the data just to get to a warming trend...we are in a pause with global temperatures at the moment for the past 18 years.

Even if they're assertion is right, how do they know the increase in the temperature rate is not natural? How do they know bow fast the temperature rate was in any 10 or 50 year period 6,000 years ago? Willing to bet there was a real fast increase that melted the glaciers.

But it is not. There have been 9 warming periods since the end of the last ice age. Five of those warming periods had higher rates of temperature increase and seven of those had a higher temperatures than we are currently experiencing. Human CO2 emissions are contributing to the present warming but the rates of temperature increase is in the range of previous warming periods in the current interglacial. The source for this is the 2004 R. B. Alley paper using GISP2 data as part of the NOAA/NGDC Paleoclimatology Program.

But alarmists NEVER state that the global average temperature rate of rise will be reduced by XX deg C/ century if we implement this program. In fact if the goals of the Paris Agreement were fully met by all participants the global average temperature would be reduced by 0.2 deg C at the turn of the century.

To be clear, did you mean the rate of rise would reduced by 0.2 deg C by the turn of the century or the current temperature would be reduced by 0.2 deg C?

The end of the last ice age? We age currently in an ice age that is 2.5 million years old.

We are currently in an interglacial period. About 11,700 years ago, the glaciers melted in just a few centuries. Are we to believe that the temperature rate increases were slower than at the end of the last glaciation?

The temperature would be 0.2 deg C lower than it would have been without Paris. For example if the temperature would be 1 deg C in 2100 higher than today with Paris it would be 0.8 deg C higher. The temperature will be higher in 2100 regardless.

But the last ice age ended ~ 10,000 years ago. At the end of this last ice age the atmospheric concentration of CO2 dropped to ~ 180 ppm which is dangerously close to the minimum of 150 ppm for plants to live.

There have been 10 warning periods in our current Holocene interglacial and in 5 of those warming periods the rate of temperature rise has been higher than our current temperature rise.

Please read the post that you replied to. We are in an interglacial period 11,700 years old and an ice age that is 2.5 million years old.

What you say about CO2 is correct. How did we get in a warm period when CO2 levels were so low?

The way that is more commonly described is that the interglacial periods occur between ic ages. We certainly are not in an ice age now. The earth however is in a overall cooling which started ~ 50 million years ago in the early Cenozoic.

Sentence 2 - the latest ice age preceded the current interglacial period that we are now in.
