Trump on Thursday dismissed special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into his former associates and his Presidential campaign in a New York Times interview in which the President said Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told him the probe does not view him as a target.

“He told the attorneys that I’m not a subject, I’m not a target,” Trump said.

“Rod told me I’m not a target of the investigation,” Trump added.

Well, that is not quite true. Trump suggested he had not spoken with Rosenstein directly. He suggested that he had not spoke to Rosenstein? He either did or he didn't. Trump seems very unsure of himself. That is what happens when you lie.

“The lawyers ask him. They say, "He’s not a target of the investigation,’” Trump said.

Everyone stop laughing. This should be looked at critically.

We have no reason to believe Trump here. He is a compulsive liar who says whatever is convenient at the time. For two years he has called the special prosecutor's investigation a "witch hunt." We know that is a lie. Why not this confusing statement where he is "suggesting" he didn't really talk to Rosenstein, but said he did.

There is a DOJ rule, not a statute, a rule, that a sitting President cannot be indicted. Mueller works for the DOJ and Mueller is very conscious of rules. Mueller is not about to suggest indicting Trump. Perhaps, this is what the lawyers were referring to. Trump would not be a target for an indictment. It would be fitting that Trump would omit that detail.

This version of the story is acceptable because the DOJ rule is widely known, and it would be very odd and out of character for Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein to tell Trump's lawyers that the President is not the subject of the probe. He definitely is. That was the whole idea of the appointment of the special prosecutor in the first place. Mueller was appointed as a direct result of Trump's firing of Comey, indicating obstruction of justice. At the time, the FBI was investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and any possible connection to the Trump campaign.

Trump even admitted to two prominent Russians in the Oval Office and to Lester Holt that Russia was the reason for the firing.

Why don't you wait and see? Speculation so far has proved fruitless.

We all know you can't put any trust in anything trump says as being true. We best just wait and see.

Trump was never the subject of investigation which you all should know if you had been paying attention.

This is what Mueller is investigating and nowhere in there do I see Trump listed, only people connected to the campaign.

Aw, that spoils all the fun. Trump's fanciful denial was so amusing. Didn't you think it was funny.

Besides, we know know enough already to make his foolish denial just another lie. Even you know that.

Well, we know a desperate lie when we see one.

Critics are waiting with bated breath. Trump supporters fear the worst, so many arrests, so many convictions, so much testimony from close Trump associates now felons facing jail time, so many tapes, videos, and documents.

It will be bad for Trump. We just don't know how bad.

Did you read your own source? It said:

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, in his role as Acting Attorney General for matters related to the campaign due to the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, appointed Mueller, a former Director of the FBI, to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) with authority to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections, including exploring any links or coordination between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and the Russian government, "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation",[51] and any other matters within the scope of 28 CFR 600.4 – Jurisdiction.

If you do not think this directly involves Trump, you are fooling yourself. Do you honestly think "Trump's 2016 presidential campaign" doesn't involve Trump? :roflol::rolleyes: Honestly, that is quite amusing.

Your source actually supports my contention. Thank you.

I will answer that when you provide a satisfactory answer about how sensors and 21st Century technology will stop anyone from crossing the border and what recent technological development made walls obsolete.

Here is a short review of the case against Trump.

No less than nine of Trump's close associates have connections to the Russian government or were involved in concealed payoffs. One was the former chief of the DOJ. One is his former NSA. One is a former campaign manager. One was a former deputy campaign manager. One was his personal lawyer for ten years. Another one is his son-in-law, and another is his son.

In December 2016, Mike Flynn made a deal with the Russian ambassador for Trump, the elected President. Try to imagine private citizen Flynn doing that all on his own.

We know of at least one occasion where his son, son-in-law, and his campaign manager met with representatives of the Russian government at Trump's home, Trump Tower, to gain an advantage in the election. Put all this together, and it is extremely unlikely the hands-on manager did not know what was going on.

Trump has been accused of obstruction of justice. This charge is related to his firing of the FBI director. At the time, the FBI was actively engaged in the Russian probe.

In May 2017 Trump met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak in the Oval Office. He had this to say about the firing of James Comey, his FBI director.

"I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job," Trump said. "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off." "I'm not under investigation," he added.

Trump appreciated the help from the Russians and WikiLeaks. “WikiLeaks! I love WikiLeaks,” Trump proclaimed at a Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, rally on Oct. 10, 2016. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump said during a news conference in an apparent reference to Clinton’s deleted emails. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

Why in the world would Trump be so foolish as to collaborate with the Russian government in a Presidential election? Is he really that naive?

One possible answer is, his hands were caught in the cookie jar. Evidence suggests that he was involved in money laundering with Russian interests. This further suggests that Putin knows about it, and he is extorting the President.

Why, on a number of occasions, Trump encouraged the Russians and WikiLeaks to involve themselves in the election is a question no one can answer and suggests extreme naiveté on Trump's part, or a strong belief that he is above the law -- the law does not pertain to him. Who knows, but it was stupid.

Time reports, "Testimony to the U.S. Congress by the head of a political research firm indicates that the Trump Organization’s sales of properties to Russian nationals may have involved money-laundering.

“Transcripts reveal serious allegations that the Trump Organization may have engaged in money laundering with Russian nationals. Patterns of buying and selling were suggestive of money-laundering."

One important factor that we all must keep in mind. Trump never does the dirty work. He gets others to do it for him. Picture Trump calling the Russian ambassador to make a deal in December 2016. Never happen, right. So, claiming that Trump never collaborated with the Russians or did not know about the activities of his son, son-in-law, campaign manager, and personal lawyer on his behalf is meaningless and useless as a defense tactic. Trump is responsible for what the Trump campaign did in his name.

What is the point of the OP? A lot happened in which Trump may or may not be involved, but there is no direct evidence he was.. We already knew all of that. More like a bunch of hopeful wishing.

Did you even read post 12? Did any Trump fan read post 12? There has been no reaction, none at all. It shows how Trump is involved, and his fans can't face the reality of that fact. Why do they support a President they can't defend?

It shows how Trump might be involved.

I believe you would be more disappointed if Trump is not guilty than I would be if Trump is guilty. That is the tragedy of the whole situation.

Yes, I did, lots of conjecture and left wing hysteria.

So far these are the only crimes Mueller has:

    1. First are process crimes such as perjury, obstruction, false statements, and witness tampering that have resulted from the investigation itself.

    2. Second are crimes that occurred before Mueller was appointed but that cover unrelated business activities by Trump associates.

    3. Third is one indictment against Russian individuals who will never be brought to justice in the United States.

Wait and see... what? Trump is eager to dig himself into a hole just about every time he is confronted with speculation.

It was speculation when Lester Holt asked Trump if the Russia investigation had any part in his decision to fire Comey. It was speculation no longer after the interview.

And, since then, the same thing has played out over and over.

Speculation most certainly has proven to be very productive in dealing with this administration.

Hasn't it been great. He has weathered the dozens of threads from the usual suspects suggesting Trump would be out of office in a week. So far, leftie speculation has turned out to be a joke.

Characterizing a post without an explanation is common with Trump's fans and it is quite meaningless. What was "conjecture and left wing hysteria" and why? Be specific. You seem to think saying it makes it true. That is also a common fault with Trump's supporters. Generally, it means they have no idea what they are taking about.

You said, "So far these are the only crimes Mueller has:

"1. First are process crimes such as perjury, obstruction, false statements, and witness tampering that have resulted from the investigation itself.

"2. Second are crimes that occurred before Mueller was appointed but that cover unrelated business activities by Trump associates."

We are in agreement. That is part of the indictment against Trump. Thanks. The latter indicates how Putin is able to extort Trump.
