It should be though. This is another argument in favor of my Centralism, and the Unified State. It's only a matter of time before the National Government properly merges with State/city governments.

You CPA probably told you what your refund was, again, you don't understand how your refund has no bearing on whether you paid more of less taxes than the prior year. Do you really think if you cut your standard deduction and child tax credit in half like it was in 2017, you'd get a higher refund?

I’m glad the federal govt is no long subsidizing high tax liberal states. This voter should make his voice known at the state level

It's easy to vote in a tax plan that borrows money from future generations. Mortgage your kids lives - not yours. I laugh whenever I her a conservative talk about "responsibility" ... what a load of crap.

It will be interesting to see if Trump matches Obama on increasing the debt - so far his $1 trillion a year in "fake" money is on target to do so.

So if the wealthy New York lawyer got a larger tax bill, how does that equate to harming the middle class?

And how does the angst from the liberal author of the opinion piece from fatherly.com equate to facts regarding his own tax bill, which he hasn't even tried to figure out?

More pathetic BS from the laughable lunatics at Yahoo News.

The dems need to get the story straight in this thread. Either people are paying more (per this thread) or they're not. I'm not even sure what the argument is at this point.

I caught you with your pants down, making bogus, baseless claims that are a mathematical impossibility, unable to even begin to substantiate these claims, confusing apples and oranges (tax refund and total tax liability), admitting that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I instructed you to compare two numbers on your 2017 and 2018 1040 forms and even gave you line numbers and you've failed to even do that.

    Be quiet now. LOL

So all you actually know is that you are getting less of a refund. YOu don't know what your total taxes were compared to the previous year. Great argument, LOL.

No you didnt. You just got less of a refund. That does NOT equate to paying more taxes. You already said you have no idea what your total taxes were. And why on earth to you use a CPA to do basic taxes.

It's like the argument that Obama lied - some people lost their doctors when Obamacare was initiated - many didn't.
Some people will pay more in taxes - others will not.

My argument is that NONE of us are paying enough if we are going to allow our representatives to spend they way they are. That's not being responsible on BOTH sides of the aisle.

Now that I can agree with. Gov't needs to get their spending under control, not ask us to pay higher taxes.

You can deduct up to $10,000 of property taxes which only applied to those who itemize and have very expensive homes.

According to the most recent IRS data, for the 2013 tax year,

30.1 percent of households chose to itemize their deductions (44 million returns).
68.5 percent of households chose to take the standard deduction (101 million returns).

And that standard deduction has been increased.

The amount of your refund has nothing to do with how much tax you paid. Yes I know some people lacking in tax and budget knowledge think they REALLY do good and REALLY screw the government when they get a HUGE return but in fact it is just the opposite. I PLAN my taxes and witholdings so at the end of the year I have to pay they just under the amount I would have to pay a penalty for not having enough withheld so that I screw the government out of having MY money all year in an interest free loan.

no, he told me my refund is less, while comparing everything to the prior year. year over year, my tax liability increased.

Some people who pay more are very wealth people in areas with extremely high state and income taxes, like the $200k+ lawyer in the OP... or people whose mortgage substantially exceeds $750,000. AND NO ONE ELSE.

Our buddy rahl got a substantial tax break, his clueless protesting notwithstanding, he in fact the absolute tailor made perfect example of a family that benefited the most from the tax reform - middle class reasonably high income in a state with reasonable state and local taxes.

The government relies on the ignorant and poorly educated to believe that if you get a big refund you pay less in taxes.
