Well, that's exactly my point. The system for white immigrants at the founding was entirely different. The current system was put into place in 1965, with national quotas emerging in the 1920s. Prior to that, specific races and nationalities were excluded (such as the Chinese).
The Irish weren't seen as "white" enough. They were seen as another race. If you are denying the racist history of the U.S. immigration system, you are simply completely ignorant of history.
The laws stipulate that there be a national emergency. Kinda hard to argue an emergency exists when you've had 2 years to address the situation and have done nothing.
Good. That will show everyone how bad Democrats are at governing. You'd think places like CA and IL would be sufficient. Oh well. Let them push Obamacare again, get rid of everyone's private insurance, drive prices through the roof, and monopolize health care. It'll suck, but laughing at leftists and their lackeys will make it all worth it.
I think he must be thinking in terms of setting himself up as the defacto king of the hard core racist reactionary right, and the evangelicals. I fully expect him to tour, like the carnival barker he is, peddling the same xenophobic simple minded trash that he peddlies now, and having his supporters throw money and fawning praise at him. All he want is a cheering crowd, and the illusion of wealth and power. We already know that he went through most of his father's money, and unless the Russians are kind to him, he's out of the money laundering business, so it's back to the sideshow act for Donald.
Immigration from the southern border has DROPPED 40% since the early 2000's, why is it a national emergency now ?
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/immigration-landmines-in-the-funding-bill/ Just veto the bill MR. President. And through an EO, authorize government funding throughout the fiscal year 2019. Everything other than government funding is tabled.
You're pretty young to embrace this kind of fear filled racism. Of course, there is no invastion. The facts don't match the right wing hysteria. I would say you ought to know better. But you apparently chose fear and xenophobia.
not white enough? Irish is about as white as you can get now you might have had an argument if you said they were discriminate against because they were catholic there for a religion discrimination but it wasn't about race
70,000 drug overdoses in 2017 and 90% of those illegal drugs cross the Mexican border one would consider an emergency
Bleak New Estimates in Drug Epidemic: A Record 72,000 Overdose Deaths in 2017 Drug overdoses killed about 72,000 Americans last year, a record number that reflects a rise of around 10 percent, according to new preliminary estimates from the Centers for Disease Control. The death toll is higher than the peak yearly death totals from H.I.V., car crashes or gun deaths. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/15/upshot/opioids-overdose-deaths-rising-fentanyl.html a wall would require less manpower to secure those areas there for more resources can be diverted to ports of entry and Trumps border security is more then just a wall funding
So...the whole Nuclear option came back to bite the Dems in the ass. What do you think this will do? Also, whats the over/under on how long this 'emergency' lasts, even after the wall is done?
You think we do not have enough shoeless mexicans in our public schools and hospital emergency rooms? We are overrun with poor people with no needed skills
If Trump's raging delusion - now predicated upon imaginary duct-taped women and prayer rugs - drives him to grab already allocated taxpayer dollars to inflict his campaign gimmick "big, beautiful wall" (that the reality-tv performer had repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for) in a "Big Government" blitzkrieg of confiscations of the private property of Texans, constitutional challenges will abound in a prolonged celebration of speaking truth to power. There is no credible evidence - despite his hysterical raving about duct-taped women and prayer rugs - that his precious erection is any more an "emergency" matter than it was at any time during the two years that Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and refused to indulge him.
