I know it happens with cats, but do dogs grow to twice their size during the night if they sleep on the bed with you? Even if you don't feed them after midnight....
If you want to get any sleep, feed 'em early. Yes, it seems that they grow some overnight as they gravitate to us slowly in the dark.
5 cats, all feral turned domestic... no need to 'buy a companion from a mill' and i don't believe in 'designer' pets, they should be outlawed.
3 cats all rescued, one of which is a feral turned domestic with some issues 3 dogs all rescued and all very lovable family members
I can understand an elderly person wanting a dog for a companion and a focus for their affection, but I'm ****ed if I can understand the need to have them as lifestyle accessories.
I did have a blue/red heeler dog, he lived to 16 years, a healthy life, with lots of space to exercise in our great outdoors. He loved the guys on the jet skis, as he is a cattle dog, thought he was running up and down on waters edge as rounding them up! Was good exercise for him anyhow. It was sad to have to put him down, his mind was still alert and his eyes were good, his hearing had faltered, but the worse thing was he had this creeping paralysis and I kept putting it off, the inevitable of going to the vet, until he could no longer move except for his head, we looked after him, cleaned and fed him, like a little old man, I think in his eyes he had a distressed look as he didn't know what was happening to his body and why he couldn't walk or run anymore. We loved him, and I know, having the vet put him to sleep in a peaceful way is kind. I now have my daughter's cat, now 15 years old, looking after her, whilst she has gone to work interstate. This cat is clever, and a real survivor, and gosh, they are so springy, the way they can jump up or down from heights, like rubber bands! I also look after my son's dog, a Maltese Shi-tsu, a few days per week (mainly weekends while he and his wife go out a lot)….he is my lil buddy, and although he is only just turned 11, he had a sort of weird stroke happen, where he has forgotten to play with his squeaky ball, or forgotten he likes to have late night snacks from his food bowl of dry food. Forgotten he used to 'shake hands' for a treat. We have him on expensive supplements, with green lipped muscle in it, for his joints and mobility, and a science food, which helps with the mind and his fur coat is looking better than ever. At least all these supplements and dry food specifically for his condition, are stabilizing him, and I have noticed little improvements where he seems to come through for a few minutes, like his old self. These pets have the best beds in the house in their fave spots, so comfy and accessible. PS....will have to learn how to upload photos on here soon...am just a newby on this forum
yeah if you love your dog it's a painful thing to do, they become part of the family like a child...but I'd want that option for myself if could no longer move it's living death... I have giant/mutant border collie that lost the ability to go up and down stairs, more than once I had to carry him, I was very upset at thought of putting him at only 9yrs old, we waited it out for 3 -4 months to see if he would recover...luckily he got past whatever ailment hit him and he's back to his annoying self, delaying that inevitable day when I will have to have put him down in another 5-6 years
My cats started as...well, semi-feral. Even initially, Maya (Maine Coon Cat...RIP) was pretty friendly. Vierna (tiny black shorthair) started as feral and skittish. Now...she is curled up on my lap, giving me The Look if I stop petting her. I'm going to miss Vierna. They brought Briza (orange tabby) home as a kitten...the now 16lb cat seems quite happy.
That's a brilliant post; it has pathos and humour, is grammatically concise, impeccably typed, and exquisitely constructed. You ought to become a writer. Comme moi.
My sweety (SoCal) doggie, 'Loca' (she wouldn't have tolerate my active outdoor lifestyle on the cold E-coast) ... even with only a few mo. spent w/ her out of each year, in her latter years... Loca was by far the most dedicated to to me. while 'in town', Loca wouldn't interacting with anyone or anything until I was back with her at the end of ea. day - very heartbreaking & sad to see) ... And No, I didn't let her smoke 'Camels', lol... (recently passed away) I'm going to look for 'puppy pics' but I'm having trouble finding the exact flash drives (after 'Hillary-ing' x 2 of my computers)
After recently losing one of my cats, I still have another one. He was a rescue of sorts, but he is not what I call affectionate, and it took him years to actually act like a cat. He bullies humans, and bullied my other cat, but I'm not one to 're-home' an animal, so he's with me for the duration. He may, however, become closely acquainted with the neighbor's barn if he doesn't quit slashing at my ankles....
This lump o' fur doesn't even like raw shrimp. What self righteous cat doesn't like raw shrimp? Chicken gizzards yes, but no to fish and shrimp. His official name is Hoover (as in the vacuum) but he's also known as Doublewide, and recently, Triplewide. With the loss of the other cat, we will be able to limit his access to food (that we provide) but who knows what feathered or furred friends he makes a meal of.
i'm caretaker of several ferels, the three outside the house eat anything, the two that live inside the house will only eat the dry nuggets, nuthin else... yet they all were coaxed into our family with cheese... this held true for every ferel we encountered and we've had dozens, most dead now...
I'll give it a try, if I can find a lonely slice... we don't eat that stuff anymore now that we can afford 'real' cheese, lol. What was a luxury 10 years ago, is now a requirement. I can't believe the crap we put through our bodies back then.
