That is a gyration that we should not have to go through, but it isn't the issue either. The issue, I thought, was cases of people needing medical treatment and being unable to afford it.... --or, people needing treatment and having to choose between feeding their family, paying the rent, keeping the lights on, or getting the medical care they need.

Then why couldn't you, or wouldn't you, answer how many people are living without health insurance?

11.3 percent of U.S. adults were without health insurance coverage in the first quarter of 2017.
    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/11/the...lth-insurance-rose-in-first-quarter-2017.html

About 44 million people in this country have no health insurance and 80% of them are workers.
    http://www.pbs.org/healthcarecrisis/uninsured.html

The percentage of the population who is uninsured rose from 2017 to 2018 and from 12% to 13%. (That's 42 million people). - https://www.transamericacenterforhe...s2018-healthcare-consumer-research-report.pdf

"the median household income of those who remain uninsured is $37,300, according to the survey. "

No, the issue I was discussing before you jumped in was a put the claim the insurers deny claims in order to make profits. Which is bull.
I didn’t answer because what you asked me has nothing to do with the conversation I was having with the other forum member. Hence why I asked you what you point is.
How many of those without insurance are due to their own choice? That’s the real question.

Was the "non sequitur" in my post 3242?

It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is if someone is confused as to a point you are trying to make, be civil and clarify their question or your point. Anything else is mindless bickering. I have no desire to go back and forth with you about post numbers. You finally answered his question, and the conversation was able to progress. THAT is the goal.

I replied originally in post 3242. That is where this started, and I said nothing inappropriate, confusing, or misleading in that post. So your lecture here is irrelevant. Goodbye.

    Yeesh.....

    He said.....
"Funny...I’m 52 yrs old and have never had a claim denied. No one in my immediate family has ever had a claim denied. None of my friends have ever had a claim denied. Gee....you’d think if insurers were denying all sorts of claims that a good majority of us would have experienced it...you know...law of averages and all."

and you replied with...."How many Americans have no health insurance and are not rich?"

While his words indicate the same confusion as you as to what a claim being denied means; nothing in his statement referred to being rich, and for that matter, it had nothing to do with not having health insurance, because if one doesn't have health insurance, there isnt a claim in the first place. Yes your response seems to be a non sequitur, or at minimum, it is perfectly reasonable for him to ask you for clarification as to what is your point and how does it relate to the post of his to which you were replying.

All you had to do was give a simple answer to clarify a point of confusion. You instead opted to bicker aimlessly and endlessly.

Yea, they commit fraud on their customers by denying their claims.
I am sure they are very efficient. Remember, private insurance fraud is non payment for the claim.
One of their common trick is, they approve surgery without taking into account services of anesthesiologist. So the customer ends up with huge bill from the hospital.
They can do all kind of fraud, and unfortunately it is legal.

Do you honestly believe there would be no 'denials' if tis country were to go to either a One-payer system or Medicare for all?

To you understand what Pre-certification is, and why it exists? Do you understand what the appeals process is for medical claims? What percentage of 'denied' claims were reconsidered once the provider explained the necessity to the insurance company?

Who are these people having claims denied and why are they being denied? I, like FAW, am in my 50s and have never had a claim denied. It seems you are angry because you failed to read the fine print.

Yes, may be, but the government is going to be responsible for those denials. People have at least some leverage on the government since they can vote.

It is not my job to read a fine print, that is exactly what Universal Health Care access is for.
To get rid of the fine print and insurance fraud.

You do realize that Medicare denies countless therapies for countless patients do you not? You seem to be operating under the mistaken impression that private insurance is the only insurer to ever deny medical treatments.

Far be it for me to try and tell you otherwise, but you do realize that 'voting' isn't going to have much of an impact once such a program was installed. Have you learned nothing from the Republican efforts to get rid of the PPACA???

Your leverage isn't what you think it is. Really.

Wow. So you don't feel it would be to your benefit to read the "fine print" when purchasing a product? You feel that should be the governments job to take care of all your needs? Wow, just wow.

So just what is your job? You seem to want the government to take care of all your needs. What is the purpose of existing if someone else is going to do everything for you?

OK.....and how excatly does that logically follow HIS words which were..."Funny...I’m 52 yrs old and have never had a claim denied. No one in my immediate family has ever had a claim denied. None of my friends have ever had a claim denied. Gee....you’d think if insurers were denying all sorts of claims that a good majority of us would have experienced it...you know...law of averages and all."? The post to which you were replying said not one thing referring to anyone's income level, yet that was your reply. His confusion is entirely understandable, and your refusal to lend clarity to your words was entirely unreasonable.

It’s not your responsibility to understand what type of insurance you have? That sums it up right there. You believe you bear no accountability or responsibility.

But I need no accountability or responsibility when I have a government that gives me everything.
