What's your opinion on a pardon for Manafort?

The reason is that a special prosecutor can prosecute charges and issue indictments - tools the FBI doesn't have.

And, you are very obviously TOTALLY wrong about Manafort's involvement.

Your statements along with the convictions of Manafort are clear proof that he was very closely related to the central problem for which Mueller was chartered to investigate.

I don't see why you think there wouldn't have been an investigation if Dems had won.

The Russian attacks on our democracy were considered serious by Democrats as well as Republicans. There was every reason to investigate what went on, regardless of who became president.

The more impressive thing is that this administration agreed that there were serious issues to investigate and thus appointed Mueller as special prosecutor to investigate the election where they won!

Rod rosenstein. A trump appointee apted mueller, who is either a republican or non partisan. And whoose apt was cheered by gop when made [ QUOTE]

This wasn't about smoke, this was about Trump. That's all this has ever been about. If Trump had not been elected, Manafort would have been left untouched.[/QUOTE]
You do not know that. Clearly there was a lot of concern about russion meddling before the election. An investigation was very likely including manafort.

But the intensity of the investigation would be different if trump were not elected. There is a difference between someone stopped for possible intoxication, vs an accident with multiple deaths possibly involving intoxication

And the head of the fbi would not have been fired to stop the investigation... so mueller would not have been appointed... which likely would have limited the investigation somewhat

Nothing has come to light so far in the news to suggest any valid reason why President Trump should (or would) pardon Manafort. He broke the law... he should be punished according to law. Besides, whatever his sentence is supposed to be, the prison system in the United States rarely makes anybody (even violent criminals) serve more than HALF whatever their "sentence" is....

People say, "Well, Manfort never would have gotten caught except he was involved in the Trump campaign". That is probably true... a LOT of people have done what Manafort did and gotten away with it (money laundering with corrupt foreign governments, etc.) But, with the same wisdom you could also say that Hitler wouldn't have lost the war if he hadn't attacked Russia before completely defeating England. Woulda, coulda, shoulda....

Could you discuss this issue without bringing in this crazy conspiracy theory? Seriously, after two years of nothing, I would think you guys would be embarrassed by this. It makes it difficult to have reasoned discussions when you guys keep running off into insanity.

Your statement seems to be false since the Justice Department didn't charge him years ago.

So you seriously think there would have been a special counsel investigation if Hillary had won? Obviously we can't know for sure but I see no indication of that. Nor do I think you actually believe that.

    Another Russian collusion conspiracy theorist?

If Hillary had won, there would have been no investigation, because there would have been no angst about what happened to the sure thing by members of a weeping media.

Were they aware that he was wiring millions to himself and not reporting it as income? I doubt it.

This "crazy conspiracy theory" is what got this Republican administration to assign a special prosecutor to investigate.

And, the fact that it's taking a while isn't some sort of vindication.

Mueller has long been noted for being seriously comprehensive. If this administration had wanted a cursory look or a whitewash, they wouldn't have selected Mueller.

Democrats have been seriously concerned about Russians involved in this election cycle from before the election through to TODAY.

It his me as a wild idea that Dems wouldn't have been interested in that assault had Hillary won.

OK well we agree that this crazy conspiracy theory is why we're here.

Oh Mueller is seriously comprehensive. He went after Stephen Hatfield and Bruce Ivens on the anthrax case, without serious evidence. He was more interested in finding a scapegoat rather than finding the culprit. He's actually perfect as a special prosecutor for this investigation. He's America's own Inspector Javert.

Yes, the Democrats were "seriously concerned."

Obama White House rebuffed plan to combat Russian influence

No why did Obama rebuff the Congress as to Russia?

Nothing that i wrote depends upon there being a conspiracy...only upon the suspicion of conspiracy

That said, there is a rather large record of conspiracy theories in the gop... with donald trump as a ptimary is xemplar... obamas birth certificate, deep state, fake news, ted cruz and oswald, hillary prosecution and loretta lynch.... etc

The investigation had nothing to do with media angst.

You assert there would not have been an interesting investigation based upon zero evidence

His problem is he used the same standards the Democrats use all the time.

Obama was willing to take only limited action, because doing otherwise would very clearly be interpreted as the president tampering in an election in favor of the candidate of his own party.

They probably thought that any Republican would be a total imbecile toady of the calibre of Nunes.

And, it appears pretty darn clear that Trump thought he would be able to just fire anyone who asked real questions.

I don't see why he deserves a pardon over other criminals who honestly regret their actions and have changed their ways. He has committed a litany of crimes showing that he doesn't care about the law or right and wrong and just wants to benefit himself. He hasn't apologized for any of his behavior and has shown the greatest disrespect to the law enforcement who caught him. Instead he has played the victim and has tried to illegally hinder law enforcement, hoping that Trump gives him a free pass.

When I make a statement like, "If Hillary had won, there would have been no investigation, because there would have been no angst about what happened to the sure thing by members of a weeping media," I can't actually turn back time and try with different results. However there was foreign interference in the election in 2012 and 2008 and there was no media angst about that. So something's different. Why was foreign interference OK then?

    It wasn't OK then.

It just wasn't the same magnitude, and our detection of it was improved due to the probleems during those past elections. So, we were better prepared to detect it in 2016.

Also, it was HUGELY different that we found AMERICANS involved.
