Let's say that in 2020 or 2024 as a reaction to President Trump a true leftist by American political standards is elected president of the U.S. and their supporters take control of at least one house of Congress.

Part of their platform concerns defense spending and the slogan is "half a trillion a year is enough". So their plan is to reduce defense spending to 500 billion dollars a year with increases thereafter only equaling the rate of inflation.

what would the U.S. military look like for that kind of budget?

It would have to be defensively oriented. Cut the nuclear triad down to the SSBN's, heavy cut back on the Army until it was designed to just defend CONUS, the Air Force would mostly be fighter aircraft and transports. Cut back heavily on the number of carrier and on Marine amphib groups.

First the current administration and Congress has to appropriate enough money to repair the damage caused to our military by the Obama administration and Congress.

The same thing happened after the Truman administration, Carter administration, Clinton administration and along with the Obama administration.

In the long run it's cheaper to maintain a strong and well equipped and well trained military than having to repair the damages that were inflicted by neglect by Democrat administrations and Congress.

The military industrial complex is largely a myth. The profit margins for defense contractors are not even very great.

Your pals in Halliburton and Bechtel got billions in profits from traitor Bush's war. That $500 billion those welfare queens get every year is welfare and should be taxed at a 100% rate.

Not what I said. Defense contracts are appealing because they are long term, the buyer (the government) is never going to go bankrupt, and thus it is reliable work.

But strictly on the profit margins defense contracts are not all that profitable.

Halliburton was contracted by the U.S. federal government for the work in the Middle East by the Clinton Administration years before Bush took office.

If they could get all of the corruption out, $500 billion would be plenty to maintain the greatest military on earth.

Even if the Bush Admin. lied about WMDs in Iraq (they didn't as our CIA declared the evidence for WMDs was a "slam dunk") then they still did not commit treason.

It is not treason to lie in order to justify military action.

It is treason as there were no WMD, Americans died needlessly, corporate interests profited, our tax dollars and resources were stolen, and the nation's image was tarnished beyond repair by the traitor and his supporters.

Toppling the Hussein regime was worth it WMD or no WMD. And weapons of mass destruction were not the only reasons for invading Iraq. Foreign Policy magazine published a chart listing TWENTY ONE reasons for invading Iraq that had been given by everyone from the Bush Admin. to the Democratic opposition.

At any rate once again lying to justify a war is not treason. Every American conflict including World War Two was based at least in part on lies or at least half truths. FDR didn't bother when asking for a declaration of war after Pearl Harbor that U.S. economic warfare against Japan was on the verge of destroying the Japanese economy. Wilson never gave his true reasons for wanting the U.S. involved in World War One.

Lincoln completely changed the reasons for the U.S. waging the civil war against the Confederacy two years into the conflict.

But isn’t it nice that the contractor who built that garbage housing can afford a mansion in Ireland?

We have a Second Amendment and should have no security problems in our free States.
