The number of immigrants seeking asylum has increased since Trump has been doing everything he can to keep them out. He has created a now or never situation with people who see our country as their only hope to save their children. How can Dems be responsible when they are only advocating to follow current immigration laws, both U.S. and international.. Allowing a path to citizenship for DACA is the best choice for our country. The DACA participants must stay within a narrow margin of requirements in order to remain eligible for the program. They must either be in school or working and cannot break any laws. How can people who are contributing to our economy be a negative thing? Because of the color of their skin? It seems that is the reasoning of the RW, you know ... the ones who are constantly insisting everyone is racist but them, while their behavior says the opposite.

Where shall we begin. Maybe the easy ones.
12 million illegals. 66% work - call it 8 million people at a low wage of 25K. That's $200 billion a year out of the economy - about 1% of GDP.
You can pick the value of their labor in produced product - maybe another $400 billion.

So your bottom line is that removing illegals, and replacing them with American workers, will cost 1% of GDP? That's absurd. And you didn't actually show any math since your numbers are made up. Explain how $200 million is removed out of the economy when you replace workers? Does that economic loss happen every time a worker leaves and another is hired?

In case you haven't noticed we are at full employment now and have been for some time. There are no replacements. Only inflation.
Maybe we could allow more Syrians in. I hear they like to work at pork packing plants.

Republicans support DACA and many support amnesty and a path to citizenship but only after the border is secured. If the border isn't secure first we'll just be doing this all over again.

The labor participation rate is about 67%. A "tell" on whether we are actually nearing full employment will be the increase in wage rates. So...I want wage rates to rise since that encourages people who've checked out of the workforce to get back in, and it encourages employers to look at people they wouldn't have otherwise considered. So to me, a tight labor market and rising wage rates are a good thing.

So it's less numbers and more economic goals that we disagree on. You apparently want a compliant, serf-like workforce that can be paid peanuts and I want rising wage rates and economic opportunity for the underclass (citizen underclass that is) and working class.

I've always supported legal status with no path to citizenship.

Oh we can agree on higher wages. But when there are not enough people to do the available work the economy suffers and inflation follows.
The participation rate is another topic with a myriad of reasons, very few of which are related to illegals. You wouldn't see many old guys getting back in the job market because they would just love to pick strawberries.
If you will notice the robots are working their way down the salary chain. If you want more good paying jobs, deport the robots. :)

we have an express naturalization clause not an express immigration clause, every time this legislation comes up.

We're nowhere near a point where "when there are not enough people to do the available work the economy suffers and inflation follows." So that makes it hard to believe that we do agree on higher wages. You're advising policies to sabotage that.

higher paid labor must pay more in taxes and create more in market based demand.

Likewise but if a plan is approved by the Legislature I would have no problem with a lengthy path to citizenship after those here illegally reported and received legal status.

There are already more jobs than there are people looking to fill them.
The labor force will not soon recover as we age out over the next years.
The mid level jobs that were lost to the robots don't have the skills for the high paying jobs.
Bottom line... There are less than 5 million people that even want a job.
Less than 2 million that even looked in the last year.
If you want higher wages why in the world would you deport the lowest earners. Is this some kind of race to the bottom?
