It's a stupid habit. I smelled bad, my teeth were yellow, I hated the smell and I flicked ashes all over. I used the patch to quit. I'm glad that I did.

    Cheers,

I'm small and smoked 2 packs a day when I was a smoker. Heavy chronic bronchitis. When I went to 1 pack I felt healthy. Problem is....Never could stay at one pack.

I really despise people who want to tell other people how they should live. Smokers have been treated really badly IMO and it's legal. I have always been all about freedom, as long as you're not violating someone else's rights. The sheer audacity of pot smokers I know expecting me to jump on their freedom train, after the way I've been treated for wanting to smoke cigarettes disgusts me.

I use 'snus' which is a Swedish form of tobacco you put under your lip (currently, there is no research showing any negative effects of this product, yet it is under attack by the EU). I can go months without it and only use it as a form of "relaxation product".

During summer, I will smoke a few ciggies because I like to have one as I ponder on life or chill with my mates.

To me, tobacco is a fantastic product that, if you are a mental adult with no issues, won't kill you and that probably is less dangerous than Coke and Skittles. Here in Europe, there is a serious "War on Tobacco" going on and I actually think it might be completely illegalised in the future.

Smoking kills, but so does guardianship.

I quit smoking 2 years ago. Glad I did. But I still hangout with my friends when they smoke. I hate the reputation smokers have. Who's business is it if someone wants to chief a lung dart?

The problem is that it's hard to smoke cigarettes without violating someone else's rights. Smoke travels through the air. That said, as long as I (or my kids) don't have to go through the smoke, please feel free to smoke. Smoke in your own home or outside, just don't do it where I pay people to prepare my food.

You used nicorette for three years, any side effects? I'm on round two of trying to kick nicotine. Tried for about a month, a year and a half ago. I may be wrong, but the gum seemed to irritate my mouth a bit, seems to be doing so now.

I didn't notice any. I tried the patches but had some skin irritation.
Tried a lower dose of the gum? I think I started on 4s but changed down to 2s. no mouth problems.

I used to chew but it made my sensitive tummy ache too much. Smoked a few ciggies, pipes, and cigars back in the day as well.

But I'm old now and am a confirmed teetotaler. No tobacco, alcohol, or less than legal stuff for me for the rest of my life. :)

I remember being able to walk in to the little country store near my house in rural North Carolina with a $10 bill, and walking out with 3 cartons (30 packs) of smokes, an RC Cola, and a Moon Pie.

I smoked from about 13 till I quit at 20. When I decided to quit, I did so cold turkey. It was the hardest thing, from a willpower perspective, that I've ever done.

I worked summers in the tobacco fields when I was a young teen. Hard, hot, dirty work, sun up till sun down. I think it would kill one of today's teens if they had to do it.

I've never smoked but I think tobacco has a nice smell (not cigarettes though).

Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I was just located right next to a field of tobacco and could smell it wafting through the air.

I've read some scientific reports suggesting the fresh green leaf is far less carcinogenic than the cured and dried tobacco that is sold in products. (thread about it here: Smoking without cancer )

    No.

    I can't stand it.

Either method makes me sick and dizzy.

I do not smoke as I have asthma (allergic to the carpet glue the government requires they add to all cigarettes sold)

but considering a smoker still holds the title of longest living person... I could care less if one chooses to smoke or not

I am that way with Marijuana, not much for smoking it, but love the smell

it's the smoke that is carcinogenic, if you smoked green tea leaves woudl be carcinogenic.. that is why the government wants to ban fire places

Obviously smoke is only part of the story since chewing tobacco can also cause cancer.

chewing tea leaves would do the same... anything rubbing against the gums all day woudl not be good

what causes cancer is repeated damage and the roll of the dice that one of those times the damage will be a cell that replicates uncontrollably as that is what cancer really is

the sun can give you cancer too, so can many many things

excessive smoking is bad for your... moderate smoking has been over exaggerated.. kinda like the anti-saturated fat crowd has over exaggerated their claims

sugar is also bad for you in access... the dose makes the poison... a smaller dose of some things can be good for you, while an excessive dose bad

It's obvious you didn't read that link. Chewing tea leaves would probably not give you cancer (or at least would be far less likely to than tobacco).
