Relative to the OP at hand, I've actually had a Nazi - well, certainly a Nazi-sympathizer - in my class about nine years ago. The kid literally made a Nazi flag out of construction paper and this was a young teenager so he certainly had some idea what he was doing. It never occurred to me to punch the kid, nor would I think about punching dad were his father one - which he probably was given the phone call home that afternoon.

Damn, the most offensive person I ever met was my former principal from two years back and it never occurred to me to punch her either although she certainly deserved it.

 

So your answer is throwing a horrible Group Insult directed at "Muslims"?

Threats of violence must be imminent in nature to be illegal. Saying it is permissible to punch Nazis does not meet the imminence requirement in my judgment.

Nazis want you to punch them. It is the only way they can gain relevance, even only for a moment. I have no idea how people think making fascists look the reasonable lot is a good idea.

 

There were good people on both sides, those people are clearly not though. The first Unite the Right was a big tent.

There were leftists carrying around old Stalinist flags, so what. Guilt by association is not a thing in American jurisprudence.

The vast majority of protesters on both sides and in between were peaceful and just expressing their political views as is their right to do.

Trump apologists always find themselves in an awkward position of defending the indefensible. What should one assume where your loyalties lie?

 

I am a libertarian, I wholly oppose fascism in all its forms.

I also oppose violations of the freedom of speech of anyone irrespective of how much I disagree with the content of their speech. Unless they are advocating imminent lawless action they should be free to say whatever they like, protest wherever they like. The permitting system cannot be biased towards or against certain types of speech. And people should not be judged for the actions of others, but by their own.

None of these are particularly shocking views. Attempt to smear me as some sort of fascist or fascist-sympathiser noted.

 

Naturally there is no argument with our First Amendment rights. If someone becomes violent than spending some time in jail may cool their jets for a while. I have advised those facing racists to merely give the finger and call them out. Hounding nazis/ klansmen is perfectly legal and to be expected. MAGA caps put the wearer in an awkward situation but my sense is that they want to be provocative anyway.

 

I agree emphatically brother, and I'll be right there beside you calling out fascists and communists for what they are, peacefully respecting their right to free association and free speech, but also making my own views perfectly well known.

I want them out in the open. Since my views are so incredibly superior to their own, I have no fear of embarrassing them in public on the issues. Indeed, I insist on it. Not for their good, but for the good of those in the audience.

Fringe ideas like these flourish under oppression, forbidden knowledge is inherently tempting. We should not give them that advantage and instead humiliate them intellectually as publicly as possible.

 

Where are all these "communists" you mention? The first photo you posted has the name "Kemptown" in the background. Do "antifa" carry communists flags?

 

The problem though, is that crap like this normalizes and mainstreams political violence against people who're uttering words, whilst conservatives are being conflated with NATSOC people.

So I say fine. People can punch all the "nazis" they want, provided that they're willing to accept the repercussions.

If Antifa was about peacefully showing neo-Nazis to be idiots I'd join in an instant, unfortunately for a vocal minority it is about throwing M80s into crowded spaces, cracking open skulls with bike locks, agitating for a communist revolution, etc - and that I cannot support.

 

Thanks for the feedback. I did not know that antifa has communist sympathies. They are hooligans [mainly white guys in the 20's] who like to fight and then start fires/ terrorize universities and nearby businesses.

 

You don't get a license to commit violence because you're "fighting fascists" is what I think it comes down to.
