Trump only began escalated a deceptive defense of his practice of breaking up families to outright revisionist history. There is no law that mandates family separation, let alone a law enacted under President Obama. The practice is the result of a policy that was enacted by the Trump administration, and ended by Trump last June.

Last year, as the Trump administration faced backlash over its policy, top officials countered that Trump’s predecessors had also separated families at the border. That was misleading. While previous administrations did break up families, it was rare — for example, in cases where there was doubt about the familial relationship between a child and an accompanying adult, then and only then were parents separated from children.

Neither former Presidents George W. Bush nor Barack Obama had a policy that had the effect of widespread family separation. Nothing like what the Trump administration had done had ever occurred before.

The Bush administration introduced a program in 2005 that also referred for prosecution immigrants illegally crossing the border, but it made an exception for parents with children. The Obama administration in 2014 detained families together.

 

Uh...............there was a law that you couldn't detain a minor past a certain number of days..........so just turn them all free is your answer? At least they are fed and given a place to sleep. Cages. FAKE NEWS!

 

Trump certainly escalated the situation, but he has to share the blame with many people, including B. Clinton, Bush, Obama, and SCOTUS.

It pretty much started with the Flores vs Reno decision that dictated how children must be treated when apprehended crossing the border. Trump initiated a "zero tolerance" policy which required the parents to be detained. However, the children could not be detained with the parents for the length of time involved, so they had to be separated.

It becomes very complicated, but anybody that thinks Trump solely created this situation does not understand the total scope.....though, as I said, Trump did escalate the situation.

Actually that's not true. If we got rid of welfare for able bodied people. Then i think you'd see an increase in the motivation of low income areas regardless of the skin pigmentation of the people who live there.
If people would work instead of collecting welfare or other government assistance then we'd see a decrease in poverty, that and if people quit having babies out of wedlock.

Our country has been trying to make things more fair by affirmative action. Blacks and women have been denied equal opportunities throughout history. That is why we have so many of these recipients doing so well

The fact is if you get a job work full time , stay employed and wait for marriage to have kids you'll do fine.
If you work very hard you might even make yourself rich.

My employer is minority didn't graduate highschool, worked hard ,started his own business, still works very hard and he's making it.
The rich kid may not have to work as hard but that's not his fault.
Actually i think rewarding effort and ability is the definition of fairness. Rewarding based on skin pigmentation or gender that's not fairness thats discrimination.

Point being amyone in this country has the opportunity to succeed should they choose to.

Here is an example no one in this country had had less opportunity for success than Clay Dryer, yet he is very successful. You've probably never heard of him so recommended looking him up. If he can make it. Anyone can.

Working should be manditory for government assistance with the exception of sincere disability.
