https://news.gallup.com/poll/258026...agrss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=syndication After rising to 46% in April, President Donald Trump's job approval rating skidded in May, first dipping to 42% and now to 40%. His latest rating, from a May 15-30 Gallup poll, is similar to the 39% he received in March and matches his average since taking office. Bottom Line Trump's approval rating rose in April, likely because of news events that, at least initially, bolstered his denial of any collusion with Russia during the 2016 campaign and validated his economic leadership. However, the effect seemed greatest on political independents, who by definition are less anchored than others politically. When the news became less favorable to Trump, independents' approval reverted to what it was in March, and Trump's approval rating has accordingly returned to its more normal level near 40%. trump is still having issues reaching the 50%+ approval rating of his predecessors and the 2020 elections are on their way. Looking at the same polling, most surveyed potential voters agree the economy is doing well, manufacturing is up but wages are mostly stagnant, especially with small business. The FED is expected a rate cut on recession fears. Many voters say a personal dislike are one of the prominent negatives about him. Would his numbers rise if he laid off the twitter and golf outings? Would even a small blip in the economy destroy his 2020 chances as polls indicate? For comparison polling had trump at 43.6% on Election Day but with a much smaller negative approval rating. Very few voters seem to be ‘on the fence’ regarding the president currently and trump could be the first elected president to have an overall negative approval rating for his entire first term in office.
Approval ratings have never affected a presidential election. They rise and fall based on whatever issue is going on at the moment, they are not an indicator of anything except whatever current event is going on. Bush hit the 90's after 9/11 but it didn't mean that suddenly 90% of America thought he was doing a great job as president. Another big problem with approval ratings in elections is that the opposition doesn't have any to compare against. I understand that you are looking for something, anything, negative about Trump but this just isn't it.
Trump's ratings seem to be steady at 40%, varying only a few points in either direction; still there are 17 months left to next election, that is a long time in these days.
These polls only represent the opinions of those who answer unidentified calls and have nothing better to do than take phone surveys. Those who are working and raising a family don't have time. They may still disapprove of "how he is handling his job" while being happy with results. Misleading poll.
Could be?? That's a mortal lock.... there is no way he'll get to 50%... he could save the life of a nun on 5th avenue and he couldn't get to 50% approval.... The part of that poll that remains a mystery is how 8% of registered Democrats could approve of Trump?? Complete mystery..... very confused people out there..... people need to stay focused....
There is plenty negative about trump, I just find it interesting how even in spite of a good economy he lags behind what would be expected and followed up with several questions to see if people thought him laying off Twitter would improve those polls. Not every article is an attack against your master, some of them are — well — just articles.
Thus the word Gallup all over the source, image, and article. RCP still has him upside down with pretty large split. Odd that you didn’t point that out in the thread using a statistical outlier claiming he is over 50% — as an “independent libertarian” you don’t seem to be very independent, or libertarian.
Twitter is the new thing and Trump is using it. I'm sure FDR would have preferred sending a Tweet over his hour long fireside chats on the radio but he didn't have it back then. Expect this to be the new norm.
I don’t mind presidential communications through twitter — I just wish it was a tad more... professional and presidential
I doubt any other President will spend his mornings pulling crap from his butt, posting on Twitter, and claiming it to be the truth like Trump. Guy has to have chapped butt cheeks by this time.
I will give you that one to an extent. I would love the idea of our president being presidential....whatever that means but I absolutely love that we get to see and feel the emotion from these offhand Tweets. It gives us a window into a presidency like we've never seen before and I love it. We've all read stories about presidents going off on their rampages about this or that but now we get to see it first hand. It's ultimately more information for the voter and I think this both hurts and helps Trump. Many people think he is unhinged because he is posting probably the same stuff every other president goes through but the people have never had the inner access to that before. Others feel more connected to Trump because it seems like they have a personal insight into his daily life. I truly believe that historians will find the Trump presidency as a turning point in something....what this will be I do not know yet but it's definitely trend setting.
Guys focusing on other guys butt cheeks leaves me wondering. BUT TO BE FAIR HERE, our wonderful moderators said I should reread things I post before I post them so that they are not considered insulting so let me ask your opinion if you think that is insulting because I was a bit unclear about their instructions to me in this regard. I have a feeling this statement may cross some line but as I am unsure I would like some feedback so I know where to set my boundaries. This is a test, it's only a test.
Democrats refuse to believe what we learned from Wikileaks about the DNC and media polls. I bet Texas is in play again in 2020. Biden better use resources to compete there.
Lol not only is it up, but Presidents normally get a bump after a successful diplomatic visit. Dems won't like the results.
I made three points. Point 1: Gallup is the source, not RCP Point 2: trump is the only president to be upside down his entire presidency thus far Point 3: You are neither libertarian nor are you an independent — no need to lie
All of his bumps are immediately reset by the lies and bragging he will do on Twitter. He will return to voter approval that supports regulatory capture — all US departments being headed by billionaire executives from the industries the department was intended to regulate — and the ones that would support him if he murdered someone in cold blood in Times Square or committed adultery with a porn star and then paid her off with campaign funds...
Trump's job approval hangs around forty percent even though one could argue the economy is doing well. The thing is, however, the economy has been doing well for years before Trump. So, there must be other factors involved that keep his numbers low. Those deficiencies have been listed here countless times. In the end, Trump numbers are bad because of Trump. Perhaps it all comes down to character.
Was Texas in Play? But it does look like something bad happened to Trump there. Must be all those CA. immigrants.
