2020 will be a tossup. Don't get too overconfident, Democrats.

Early polling is giving Biden, an old establishmentarian politician, the early lead. Are you suggesting he can't win against Trump?

Frankly, I think he would have a better chance than Bernie or any other left wing progressive because he could pull in those centrist Dems and independents. What do you think?

They absolutely were because we arent talking about a national election...

The polls were for state electoral votes, and they were wrong in most instances.

I hope he gets the nomination so I can replay the Democrat party's "old, white men" line over and over on social media everytime I see someone post anything about him.

Just because he's old establishment, I don't think he has a chance if nominated. It's still very early and I really don't know much at this point, but I don't trust polling whatsoever, especially this early. What do you mean by centrist dems (aren't those basically republican lite)?

"Traditional" Democrats. Working people in the trades and production.

Look. No matter who the Dems nominate - whether it be an "old guard" establishment liberal like Biden or one of the new-wave progressives - some faction of the Democratic party will be unhappy. But I think they will vote as a block just to beat Trump, even if they didn't get the nominee of their choice. This was not the case in 2016 because, (1) Hillary was unlikable, (2) Bernie's people felt she stole the nomination, and (3) because no one thought Trump could win against her anyway.

I think it will be different in 2020, and I think Trump is vulnerable to becoming a one term president. All the Dems need is to take some swing states like Florida and a few that they lost last time in the Rust Belt, and the Dems win. Biden is the type of "old fashioned Democrat" that could win those Rust Belt states. This upcoming election will not be about the reliably red and blue states. It will be all about Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. If the Dems nominate someone who appeals to the people of those states, Trump can be beaten.

    Lol ...

In my response to redeemer216 is my rationale for why Trump could lose to Biden. ^^^

Biden is an old white guy.

    He shouldnt even be nominated.

I'd actually consider a moderate Democrat but the DNC will never elect one so I'll be voting Republican, I guess.

I'd like a more moderate anything but they'll never make it past the primaries.

First candidate who promises to shrink government gets my vote.

I'm going to vote for Trump, but, being from a deep blue state, my vote won't count anyway.

Yeah, I think it will be a fight within the Dem party, but if they nominate someone who appeals to enough Dems in the swing states, Trump could lose. A more moderate Dem like Biden could be that person. If they nominate a far left liberal progressive, they could lose those swing states and the election.

For what it's worth, my :twocents:

Oh, I hope the democrats are able to unite this time as well as I want Trump out of the office asap, for my own reasons. I'm just not as confident as you are about the supposed ""Traditional" Democrats" you brought up. Even if they are honest about their policies, which I highly doubt, how are they going to accomplish anything. I don't want another Obama. Personally I have almost become numb to the whole election and candidates, as I think many have as well. Stuff like this is going to have a major impact if anything. There are a few who I think could actually unite both parties while still traditionally actually leaning left (guess you'd call them moderates) which is what we really need and unfortunately I don't think they have a very good chance of getting the nomination, which if the case Trump has a fairly good chance of continuing again.

I dont know anybody in real life who likes Biden. Never heard his name mentioned, never heard anyone say anything good about him.

I've seen more memes of him sniffing little girls than I have positive articles about him.

Like I said, I'd like a moderate anything, but I'll never get that, so Trump it is.

Hell, I don't like Biden either. But, strangely, he leads in early polling among Dems, probably due to his name recognition.

    It's going to be interesting.

What about Al Gore trying again? I think he's moderate enough.

It's going to be interesting, for sure. If the Dems nominate a moderate or "traditional" liberal Democrat, I think the far left liberal progressives will put aside their disappointment and vote for him just to vote against Trump. I don't think they'll stay at home this time or vote third party. Trump has got his work cut out for him, in my opinion. If he thinks this will be easy, he's wrong.

Trump may be stupid but he’s got enough rat cunning to know if he ever gets to debate Pete Buttigieg he’s in real trouble.

Kenyan is not a race. After transforming the US into a third world Excrement Hole by spying on its citizens and criminalizing political disagreement, no one should doubt that Obama went a long way to creating a Banana Republic in the image of the only thing he knew: Kenya.

Gore supported the 1994 crime bill, with his bosses Bill and Hillary Clinton, and former Senate colleague Joe Biden. He is good on the environment, but the leftwing base will come after Gore or even John Kerry on that.
All the baby boomer Democrats (Sanders, Clintons, Gore, Kerry, Biden) supported the crime bill.

If Biden does implode, (too old, too centrist for Democrats), my prediction is a Plan B emerges in the autumn or winter (Newsom, Michelle O=they would force her to run, or dark horse, former Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry.)
