    Isn't Merkel not running for re-election anymore?
    And Trump is only going to have one more term, max.

    I sort of doubt we'll come to blows over the two of them detesting each other and not being shy about showing it.
    The trade/overall economic situation may get a bit ugly though

    Merkel made Germany the absolute powerhouse of Europe.

    I respect her, but she is well above her limit. What i still support is her absolute disgust towards Trump.

    I hope our next chancellor is even more in that direction.

    Merkel and Trump are just figureheads. This runs much deeper. Do you believe when Merkel is replaced, the next chancellor will be pro Trump?

    I think that won't matter since Trump will either be out or soon to be out and moving into his "lame duck" phase.

    My point is that both of those personalities will be gone soon enough and I sort of doubt we're going to elect a repeat of Trump after this election (incumbency ) therefore I don't think you'll see this same sort of reaction continued.

    Did you see their last "meeting"?

    I honestly have never seen something like that before. Both come in, dont look at each other. Sit down. 10 minutes questions, then stand up and leave.

    I honestly wonder how both nations organize diplomatic affairs right now since it has hit that low

    The idea that we need just say "jump" and other nations will respond "how high" - regardless of what it is - is a flawed assessment of the geopolitical chessboard. .

    This was true to a point a few decades ago when we were the only game in town. This is no longer the case. Making mores on the chessboard on the basis of a flawed assessment of the position is not a winning formula - it is the formula on which blunders are based.

    The reality is that instead of saying "how high" - Nations around the world are giving the US the middle finger - including many of our closest allies in Europe.

    This is both unprecedented in modern history, and a sign that something is seriously wrong the moves we have been making.

    I’m looking at the 2020 Silverado with 445 horsepower 910 pound feet of torque with the 10 speed Allison transmission. What a beast of a truck.

    Defend Europe from who ? Who is a threat to the major nations in Europe ? the above is a nonsense argument as it is based on a false assumption.

    The idea that Europe putting more as a % of GDP towards Military Spending would decrease our Total Military spend is also a flawed assumption.

    I've got a 2007 Silverado with low mileage, great truck.

    GMC is the way to go...afaic, I've had GMs for years for my business.....Dodge Hemis would be a close second.....and no offense to Ford, but I've never been a big fan. Owned a pickup years back, many issues and a money pit.

    Trump never has anything nice to say to competent, erudite leaders of free countries. He only gets along with his own kind - self-serving autocrats.

    I think I'd go diesel if I were getting a truck. In fact, I don't know if I'll ever buy a gasoline car or truck again at this point. Electric is very close to taking over now anyway.

    Few things last forever. It seemed like the western alliance of “democracies” had such compelling common interest that that it seemed inconceivable that our leaders would allow a breakdown between us. But now, against all expectations, it seems like this has happened.

    The Trump Era will not last forever. And when trump is gone, i think both our countries will rediscover our remaining common interests. But i suppose that neither country will approach those negations with a starry eyed presumption of good will and the fundamental harmony of two democracies in a sometimes dangerous world

    This “split” was likely inevitable at some point.... and trump seems eager to make it happen now

    I think it is likely that both nations papered over their differences because of the perceived importance of a maintaining a united front against the existential threat of the USSR. Interestingly, that threat remains to some degree.... but Putin has skillfully played his cards to create asymmetrical relationships with both our countries

    Ultimately, i think that Germany got tired of playing the deferential role of little brother to an arrogant big brother.... and Trump got tired of what he perceived as the extra burdens of playing the role big brother to a little brother he thought lived a care free and somewhat irresponsible life all the while acting like an annoying back seat driver.

    My goodness.... i thought that when the soviet union and the berlin wall fell it was an unexpectedly remarkable circumstance. This new shift in relationships certainly has to rank up there in its long term and unprecedented impacts. Hopefully our two people can remain the friends we have been, and should remain

    Time will tell. Things change now and it will be interesting how that develops and what the result will be.

    The Second Coming
    BY WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS
    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
    The darkness drops again; but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

    That's not Angie's fault. If Americans elect a president who can represent their great nation, Western Democratic States would be really happy again.

    Germany's weakness lies in it's lack of energy resources. Coal is the only thing Germany has but it is too expensive to mine. Germany must rely on other countries to keep it's economy strong. That is very problematic for Germany. So Germany now is kissing Russia's ass for the NG.

    Americans have elected president, happiness of Western Democratic States (whatever it is) notwithstanding. Our world standing is just fine. The Germans think the World of us. Britons think the world of us. The world think the world of America! Stop listening to the left wing propaganda; we are awesome!

    Americans don't see Germany as enemies. And neither does Trump. Merkle's close ties with Putin is worrisome to NATO members. Germany can't have it both ways. Stay with NATO and cut ties with Putin or leave NATO and pledge your allegiance to Putin.
