OK finally figured out what you're talking about: a safe third country agreement. We have one with Canada, but the chances of getting one with Mexico are close to non existent. That would be highly preferable, but if we can keep Mexico to what they've agreed to to guard their own southern border that's half the battle. The other half is Rep Hurd's Asylum law reform bill. If that passed that would still toss the problem back to Mexico anyway.

So yes, a safe third country agreement with Mexico would be optimal, but there are other things we can do in lieu of that that will give us almost the same result.

So you have actually seen the agreement? And you will only know that what was actually agreed on is working if the number of illegals in the US and the number applying for asylum drops significantly. Trump does have a significant record of claiming victory before there is any victory.

Explain to me how 6,000 "national guardsmen" deplyed in a large country are going to make a lick of difference.

Bonespurs is, once again, trying to proclaim that ineffectual and inconsequential appeasement is some huge "victory", when it's really meaningless.

I'm sorry but that is so off the mark to dignify with a response.

The initial caravan from Central America was reportedly funded by a leftwing Venezuelan group. Unsure whether that group had U.S. connections.

More recently consensus is pretty solid that George Soros funded organization are funding subsequent groups of migrants from Central America:

If the GOP is able to retake the House next year, I hope that the Republican will pass firm laws making such malicious intent illegal with serious consequences for breaking the law.

There were giving a lot of lip service in all previous administrations. It is only after Trump is elected that it is not a problem and 'he is manufacturing a non-existent crisis.' Blatant partisan hypocrites all.

The lefties here won't watch this. But it is hugely eye opening.

Their southern border is relatively small.

Democrats said Trump was wrong to threaten tariffs.

But then Mexico changed its mind and is conceding.

It doesn't matter. The left hates Trump so much they're willing to destroy the standard of living in this country by any means necessary. Worse than they way they've already been doing it for the past 3 decades. California is a great example of this.

Thanks for making it come up as a video instead of a link. I couldn't figure out how to do that. But yes. It is so illustrative of the pure blatant hypocrisy that we are dealing with.

Here's another good one. Some repetition, some new stuff:

No I've not seen the actual agreement, which is true of almost every agreement the US has with other countries. What I know from media sources is: "Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said Thursday his country had agreed to deploy 6,000 National Guard troops to its border with Guatemala to help control the flow of migrants as part of its concessions."

And if they don't do that, we can apply the tariffs.

Easy. The border with Guatemala is about 540 miles, and much of it is already walled and fenced. They only reason that Central Americans were pouring over the southern border in the first place was because Mexico allowed it to tweek the Yankees. Now the Yankees are tweeking back.

    Well here it is:

    U.S.-MEXICO JOINT DECLARATION

The United States and Mexico met this week to address the shared challenges of irregular migration, to include the entry of migrants into the United States in violation of U.S. law. Given the dramatic increase in migrants moving from Central America through Mexico to the United States, both countries recognize the vital importance of rapidly resolving the humanitarian emergency and security situation. The Governments of the United States and Mexico will work together to immediately implement a durable solution.

As a result of these discussions, the United States and Mexico commit to:

    Mexican Enforcement Surge

Mexico will take unprecedented steps to increase enforcement to curb irregular migration, to include the deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border. Mexico is also taking decisive action to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking organizations as well as their illicit financial and transportation networks. Additionally, the United States and Mexico commit to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including information sharing and coordinated actions to better protect and secure our common border.

    Migrant Protection Protocols

The United States will immediately expand the implementation of the existing Migrant Protection Protocols across its entire Southern Border. This means that those crossing the U.S. Southern Border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims.

In response, Mexico will authorize the entrance of all of those individuals for humanitarian reasons, in compliance with its international obligations, while they await the adjudication of their asylum claims. Mexico will also offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles.

The United States commits to work to accelerate the adjudication of asylum claims and to conclude removal proceedings as expeditiously as possible.

    Further Actions

Both parties also agree that, in the event the measures adopted do not have the expected results, they will take further actions. Therefore, the United States and Mexico will continue their discussions on the terms of additional understandings to address irregular migrant flows and asylum issues, to be completed and announced within 90 days, if necessary.

    Ongoing Regional Strategy

The United States and Mexico reiterate their previous statement of December 18, 2018, that both countries recognize the strong links between promoting development and economic growth in southern Mexico and the success of promoting prosperity, good governance and security in Central America. The United States and Mexico welcome the Comprehensive Development Plan launched by the Government of Mexico in concert with the Governments of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to promote these goals. The United States and Mexico will lead in working with regional and international partners to build a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration, so that citizens of the region can build better lives for themselves and their families at home.

Yes, and we don't have a problem with illegals going through Belize that depends heavily on American tourism for its economy.

The border between Mexico and the United States is 1,952 miles long. The border between Mexico and Belize is 156 miles long, and the Mexico/Guatemala-Mexico border is 541 miles long with much of that fenced.

Maybe we will need to help Mexico improve that fence but we first need to build our own. Mexico indeed will pay for it by helping prevent our incurring the hundreds of billions that we now spend on illegal migrants who make it into the USA not counting other economic impact.

There are problems at the border, that's obvious.

But it is certainly not a national emergency.

And it's certainly not a problem big enough to put the country's economy on the line.

So he just had a very successful trip to Europe, praised by all. Then Mexico agrees to stop the flow of illegals into the U.S. It was a very good week. And you say Trump was a fool.

My friend, you're not dealing with a full deck.

5,000 per is not an emergency? What about 10,000? 15,000?

    No big deal.
