    Harmful in what way?

I think the speech was her own, just not the somewhat complex connection that was made to slave owners thinking that slaves were their property and therefore they could do what they want with them.

So then why use the extreme case in your argument?

Well that demands a maturity of purpose many adults don't have, let alone 13 year olds. If you want to preach to your choir, the polemics and flair for dramatic serve that goal. If you want to recruit from the other side or persuade, they are a real turn-off. She's young and the young don't really distinguish. They think anyone listening to what is said, represents the same audience. As I said, this experience could be a learning aid. She needs to get passed the obvious and really look at why the boos started when they started, and whether she wants to avoid that next time. If she does, she needs to alter her tactics slightly while still retaining her passion and message. That slavery argument seemed like a real turning point. My guess is that several who had been barely tolerating her speech lost patience quickly there. Maybe there were more blacks in the room, besides the 'eyeroller' to the left, that saw this comparison as apt or appropriate and more exploitive. Just a guess.

Would you punish the innocent child more than you punish the rapist?

Death to the child but only a couple of years in jail for the man?

Libs dont even set the bar that high

They prefer to say “health” of the mother and then define pregnancy as a disease

    I get the connection easily

But what is too difficult to understand for many liberal adults is mere childs play for most conservatives

I would support a law that provided for no abortions after fourteen weeks except in cases of pregnancy by rape and incest, health and life of the mother, and non-viability of the fetus. How many of you pro-birthers would accept that?
I put my full post in above, so that you can't take it out of context, kazenatsu. It is unethical to do that. To answer your question in context now: because it is her choice and she need not explain it to you.

How do you define health of the mother?

You would have no problem letting a teacher tell this little girl that abortion is a civil right though. No problem in letting schools teach children about Islam and having them pray to Allah. No problem in letting teachers 'educate' children as young as eight about sexual preferences. No problem with getting children to protest against any ideology the leftist teacher deems essential to indoctrinate them with. But when parents teach their children values that represent the family's ideology it is brainwashing.

If she is old and mature enough to stand up and make her case, then she is old and mature enough to face critics.

At her age, she has not been able to form her opinion based upon experience. That opinion will have been formed by her parents and her church. That doesn't mean she shouldn't be given a platform to share her opinion, but it also doesn't mean that her opinion should be taken as 'gospel'. When I have discussions with folks, I prefer for them to share their views based upon things they fully understand and with which they have personal experience or knowledge.

Yes, religious orthodoxy and superstition poisons the mind. An excellent display of indoctrination and zeal in action.

I'm not sure of your meaning. I'm defending abortion in cases of rape or if the life of the Mother is at risk.

Ideally we should want our children to understand that they are not experienced or knowledgeable enough to hold strong opinions about anything complex. Go back to school, kid, and tell me your opinons ten years from now when you've read a few books and have had some real-life experience.

But in fact everyone wants their own children to think like they do, and ... our sentimentality means that having children advocate for a position is irresistable to people having that position.

Thus we get from time to time some form of "Children's United Nations" where the cute little things decree that there should be no war and everyone should have a free pony.

My impression is that it's usually people on the Left who like this sort of thing, but clearly it's not confined to them.

As for abortion, clearly, like capital punishment and lethal warfare, its sanctioned existence is in tension with where we should want to go as a society: making human life sacred.

If we can manage to avoid a serious war, within a few decades we'll have the technology to remove the fetus if the mother doesn't want it, and raise it in a bottle. Or we may have some very easy way to make being fertile a matter of a woman's conscious choice.

Given the terrible population problem that is coming -- not enough people, or not enough intelligent people -- babies will be valuable, and that alone will be reason not to kill them.

Even godless libs normally support prtection of innocent human life

Unless the killing is done in an abortion clinic

That essay sounded like something the little girl wrote herself.

Maybe influenced by some ideas she heard from adults.

Quite a bright little girl though.

I had no intention to get into the Black slave labor issue, but if you insist, and obviously you are, so I will offer my opinion on that: Pro-abortion is, in my opinion, much worse than spanking a Black slave child. Reason?: The numbers and the degree of cruelty! Millions of unborn children get ripped to bits and pieces for being inconvenient, and that not just in the USA, no, across Europe as well. All well-to-do societies practice this kind of murder AND argue that it is their right!!
I do not condone beating Black slave children, but at least that practice has now stopped and most of them survived to tell us about it. Unfortunately, USA continues to attack other countries and kill millions of children across the globe, some hundred thousand alone in Iraq.
