I think this is a stealth attack on the Democrats by Trumpers in liberal clothing. Reparations will kill us in 2020. You are asking an 88% majority for monetary damages on the behalf of 12% of the people. Bad idea.

Trump represents an existential threat to the US. Our first and foremost objective must be to get rid of him. If reparations truly do have the weight of moral justice on their side then I have faith that the majority of the American people will get behind them eventually, but if Trump gets 4 more years we may never see justice in America again.

 

So dumb. That 'slave ship' you referred to was a ship full of indentured servants, just like my white ancestors. Traders sold contracts, not slaves. The sold contracts determined where the servants would pay off their debt.

The first legal slave was a man named John Kasor, who was an indentured servant but ran away from his contract holder, another black man named Anthony Johnson, who was at one time also an indentured servant but later became free once he worked off this debt. The year was 1653....that is the year slavery was legally recognized in the British Colonies.

That's all for the history lesson. It is sad that so many have no clue about the actual subject.....now I can understand the ignorance of Sheila Jackson Lee....but others not so much.

 

If you have a guilty conscience and feel the need to pay reparations, by all means break out your checkbook. My conscience is clear though.

If reparations were an issue, one would think the time to address it would be when we had a black president instead of shuckin and jivin trying to buy the black vote today.

 

Everyone who takes part in online debates should know that the Russian state runs an operation to stir up discord within the US. We know this from the 2016 election, when they did things to help Donald Trump. There is no reason to believe they have stopped.

How best to stir up discord? Pretend to be an extreme member of one side or the other: post near-white-supremacist things, ultra-militarist things, posts showing contempt for women and non-white racial groups, in sites used by liberals, pretending to be an American conservative. Post hard Leftist things -- praising tearing down statues of great Americans, demanding reparations, praising Islamist strikes against American soldiers, calling for the destruction of Israel -- in sites viewed by conservatives, pretending to be an American progressive.

There are of course genuine lunatics on both sides on whom these Russians can model their posts.

The best response to our Russian friends, and to genuine lunatics, is to ignore them. Find real liberals, or real conservatives, with whom to argue.

Slavery ended. There is no privilege today that is attached to slavery as slavery ended 150 years ago.

The only legacy that there is of slavery is that its in the history books. No one alive today has even remotely experienced it. At least in the US.

Nope. Your word trickery does not work here. Virginia and all other 1653 areas of mass, slavery, still became the USA and still used slavery to set the 400yr landscape of White Privilege which still controls America life.

Which is odd because the Democrats fought for slavery. It's clear that the Democrats should pay for any reparations, given that it was the Republicans who fought for the freedom of slaves during the Civil War.

There is something off the charts about this “white guy” who keeps reminding everyone he is white, yet hates everything white and even managed to vote for Trump (mind - blown!). It’s like this character is trying to troll everyone.

 

I would not be surprised if he is a right winger with a wicked -- or should I say warped? -- sense of humor, trying to discredit the Left by taking their beliefs and arguing for (or rather, just asserting) an insanely-exaggerated version of them. I've sometimes been tempted to do something like that myself.

One giveaway is that he provided a link to the FBI's uniform crime statistics, which I've only ever seen done by someone wanting to show that the Black crime rate is far greater than the white. (Blacks are 12% of the population and yet commit a majority of the murders, and the Black crime rate is more or less in proportion for other violent crimes. Of course many of these crimes are against other Blacks. About 90% of Blacks who are murdered are murdered by other Blacks.) A genuine academic "defense" of the Black crime rate issue can be found here, in a book called The Color of Crime. A pamphlet with the same title, but with the opposite orientation, was authored by the editor of American Renaissance,. A summary of it can be found here, and the pamphlet itself downloaded here. If anyone downloads it, they should also read Tim Wise's reply to it. I can't find a link to Wise's response in a quick search but here's his website. (Wise is the real thing, for sure.)

The old Soviet Union was pretty much a failure economically, but they were extremely good in espionage and similar work. When the Soviet Union collapsed, these people just carried on in the same job. They're smart enough to realize that the real fracture lines in the US -- as in almost all other countries -- are along tribal (racial, ethnic, religious) divides. The old Soviet Union simply encouraged pro-'peace' groups and individuals in the US (in addition to actual spying) -- their strategic orientation was 'peaceful coexistence' for the near future.

But the new capitalist Russia is another matter. They're more into waging asymmetric warfare. Rather than their efforts being put into trying to convince the American opinion-makers that Russia should be a strategic partner, their intelligence services seem devoted to simply trying to weaken the US by stirring up animosities. So it's not impossible that in that basement in Leningrad there is a small team trying to inflame white opinion on the race issue, both by pretending to be white nationalists, and, at the same time, pretending to be pro-Black in a particular provoking and stupid way.

But who knows? The brain is a complex thing, with lots of ways to go wrong, so perhaps this fellow is more to be pitied than censured.
