Google right to work states and you will find out where a lot of those high paying jobs went.

Because you say it is known doesn't make it true.
The jobs that went to China were low wage high labor assembly jobs.
A good example is the iPhone.

    Yes

Foreign auto companies opened plants in open shop states and saved many American jobs

Domestic auto companies could not move and they lost market share

The problem with union workers was not high wages so much as low productivity and sloppy workmanship

I'm not sure if I have seen that or not but I will definitely check it out. Yeah he was amazingly resilient to all the chemicals he was ingesting though I think in the end he was living in a lot of pain - hence the way he left.

I don't worship him either but I do see him as a significant cultural figure who was there at the very beginning. His description of the famous party at Kesey's ranch with the pranksters and angels was as good as Wolfe's imo.

Funny, you can always tell when editors of university papers discover and go through their Hunter phase just from the prose.:alcoholic:

Too bad his work declined so badly in his later years.

We could do those jobs in America at a higer wage for the workers

Yes the end product would cost more

But the advantages of Made in Ameica are significant

Do we have an unemployment problem?
No. We have a wage problem.
We don't need more low paying jobs.

    Why would Apple do that?
Do you want to socialize American business?

Those kinds of jobs are not coming back. Automation and AI are going to replace humans in many aspects of manufacturing, administration and transportation.

We need to be looking at what the economy of the future is going to look like as we move into a new era.

Innovation is the key and moving to a green economy would be a good place to start innovating.

Dare I say we even should be discussing what a post capitalist and even post-scarcity world is going to look like.

    Oops, I said it.

We have a middle class wages problem

And we have a lot of people on the fringes of the economy

China is highly overrated since its economy is basically striving thanks to the "artifical breathing" in shape of the coastal free market zones. The rest of China is still very poor and it is important to remember that the nation is still a communist dictatorship with a State that heavily regulates and controls the market. Add to this that the Chinese State are so afraid of their own people that they ban videogames because people can express "wrongthink" in the game chat. A nation that fears its own population is not be feared.

Unions bring up wages. Employers look to reduce wages as they look to reduce the cost of production.
Which is a major reason why jobs left as the RW of America killed American middle class.

China's economy is slowing down for a couple of reasons, one is their debt structure but the tariffs are pushing them further.

HAHA! The "rape" he described at that party Wolfe refutes. Tom said that he knew the lady and she quite willingly let them all have a go. I'll leave you with Hunter's suicide note.

"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun – for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax – This won’t hurt."

And that is why unemployment is down...a glut of low wage jobs where a single person would be below the poverty level. So much winning. What a joke.

Yep!!!! Unions are being destroyed by the right and along with it bargaining power for the worker. Unions brought us overtime pay, 15 minute breaks per 4 hours of work(I actually don't really take those when I am busy at work. I am a line cook at a tourist spot) and many other workers rights. Unions are the reason the middle class became what it was.

BTW, and little side note: I am getting taxed terribly on my OT hours. I had 23 hours OT on my last check and I brought home less that half of it. I'm not a person to complain about taxes, either. I'm a liberal democrat who believes in taxation and I don't view the govt as some boogyman. It just seems excessive. I haven't worked hourly in many years so it was just a shock. Oh well. Gotta pay for that corporate tax cut from 35% to 21%!!!!!!!!!

I am so tired of the defeatest attitude of American globalists

First because china is not using machines to do those jobs

    They are employing chinese workers

    Who should be American workers

But if someday it must be robots I want them to be American robots speaking English

    Not chinese robots in china

In your case no reason at all

Just continue sitting on the sidelines and complaining instead of doing something to help

Here you are saying workers should get higher wages then bad mouthing the unions. Then you say it's the Democrats that get the worker the higher wages.

you do know we are at 3.x % unemployment rate, we don't even have labor to hire that many even if we want to. 2nd it take years to train etc to get it done here, and iPhone would be $2k/phone.
