Turkish police Sunday fired tear gas at LGBTQ activists who defied authorities by marching in an unauthorized Pride parade in Istanbul.
The parade was banned for the fifth year in a row by the governor’s office, but several hundred of people still rallied on a side street close to the popular Istiklal Avenue and Taksim Square area, cheering and waving rainbow flags, organizers said.
Police allowed parade reps to make a short statement to reporters — and then cops in riot gear tried to disperse the crowd by macing them. Police dogs and water-cannon vehicles were also at the scene.

Don't be gay in Muslim countries .. In Turkey they will fire tear gas on you, in Gaza
they will drag you with a motorcycle and in Iran they will stone you :hiding:

You're probably over stating. I'm inviting all LGBT activist to go in Brunei and Saudi Arabia, very far from the white male oppressor.

Not that simple. I witnessed an interesting raid in a bathhouse is Iran. Luckily I was with a collegue who could translate what was being said by the religious police who raided the place while we were there. Those caught taking a passive role were given a choise of stoning to death or a sex change operation, often conducted by unqualified ‘doctors’ with resultant fatalities. Those caught taking the active role were given on the spot fines which went I was told directly into the pockets of the religious police. Any muslim clerics caught were given a slap on the wrist and warned if they were caught at it again they’d be in big trouble. What kind of trouble I didn’t learn.

Istanbul is Turkey's most progressive and forward-thinking city.

    (and that is not sarcasm)

The fact that a pride demonstration was even held there shows how tolerant the city is compared to the rest of Turkey.

Come, come, come, a little compassion here. They might have been born that way. Anyway the point Ronstar is, that people shouldn't flaunt what others might see as a moral weakness.

Tolerance towards one group of people such as 'gays', might be an intolerance to the religious sensibilities of others, so why is it being imposed on them?

Would moral police sound better? I mean come on let's face it, what are police anyway? Their job is to make sure everyone complies with the set of moral and ethical standards established by the community?

flaunting it, you mean like holding hands and kissing your loved one, like straight people do on a regular basis?

But that is not within the acceptable norms of society, no more than walking naked would be - unless it is in a society where affection between men is normal like in the Arab countries, and where it doesn't have a sexual connotation.

This doesn't mean people can't walk around naked in their home, or do whatever they want, only that they should take into account the sensibilities of others and not impose their standards on them. Frankly I'm repulsed and turn away when I see two men in our society kissing one another - and there is nothing you say or anyone else says that will change that.

it used to be unacceptable in society for a black man and a white woman to hold hands and kiss.

do you think that should also be a crime?

A black man and a white woman holding hands and kissing might not have been acceptable or tolerated, but it didn't repulse as do sexual indiscretions. Also you can't compare it with a man and woman holding hands and kissing if they're young since it has always been the norm - unless of course it gets out of bounds and offends the sensibilities of those around them. Then it will be offensive. As for homosexuality being a crime, that would depend on the situation.

Societal disapproval has always been able to hold people in check, otherwise the US wouldn't exist considering all the alien groups entering. That one group will intentionally try to change what has been established and try to set their own standards on the will of the majority is really tyranny.

    Likely why some are christianphobes.
It seems some christians think sexual attraction is somehow equivalent to murderers. That's enough to scare all rational people.
