There are rumors flying about. The official story in RT is that the Russian sub caught on fire and some officers died. But Debka File as relayed by Israelinewslive has a different story, and that there was a fire fight between the Russian sub and an American sub.

According to sources of Israelinewslive the Israel military has been kept at the base, and are being briefed. I did read that in Israel the people have been told to go to shelters. In the meantime VP Pence returned to the Pentagon, and Pres. Putin rushed back to the Kremlin. Also the EU is holding a security meeting.

In a first public statement about the fatal incident on board of a Russian deep sea research vehicle, President Vladimir Putin said that it's a “great loss,” adding that 2 heroes of Russia and 7 high-ranking officers were killed.

“It is not an ordinary vessel, it is a research vessel,” the president said while meeting with the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu in the wake of the tragedy.

Putin referred to the vessel’s crew as “highly qualified professionals” and called the deaths of 14 sailors a “great loss for Russia and our fleet.”

He specified that two of those who died in the fire on board the research vessel were previously awarded the nation’s highest honorary title – the Hero of Russia – while seven were navy officers in the rank of 'captain 1st class

The vatniks will do nothing....like when we schwacked several hundred Wagner's in Syria in Feb 2018.

The khujlo only attack Ukraine & Georgia. They won't raise the stakes with the US.....they know better.

We should've sent the tub to the bottom.

you didn't & this was a media hoax with no proof to it whatsoever.

however, you did sink the Kursk sub, in 2000, to be fair.

US Navy captains are famous for thinking they have the right of way.
This could be the case of typical Russian bravado behavior - their small ship being in a way of a much larger US submarine. They could have had the fire due to underwater collision with a much larger US submarine. I assume much larger because not a peep came out of the US Navy, so one can assume no casualties and injuries were inflicted on US personnel.

More than likely this was a problem with the Russian submersible resulting if some sort of vessel failure, as happened with the Kursk. I do hope it has nothing to do with the sabotage of deep sea communication cables as I believe Russia is putting in place for some reason. Research is code in Russian.

I don't know about that. Israelinewslive does have sources in the Israeli Intelligence and in Washington, and I trust him implicitly although I'm not too sure about Debkafile. I always sensed the Russians want to avoid a conflict at all costs and will cover up what they know. If they do respond, which they probably will if there was an attack, they will do it in a way where it can't lead to further combat.

Since the cold war era our subs and Russian subs have had a very aggressive underwater war going on where they actively try to sink each other without actually shooting so nothing would surprise me on what's happening out of our sight.

I would hazard a guess there's a crapload of Russki hardware at the bottom of the drink from all those decades.

    A good read on this.

"Throughout the Cold War, American and Soviet submarines played dangerous and some- times deadly games with each other. Details of these conflicts are now surfacing as the U.S. faces decisions on the future role of its submarine fleet. This is the first in a series reported and written by Christopher Drew and Michael L. Millenson of the Chicago Tribune and Robert Becker of the Newport News Daily Press."

Here is some more information that I am picking up. The Russian sub was A special sub that can go very deep. Officially it was outlining the Russian continental shelf and was accompanied by another Russian sub above it - I guess as protection. The deep sub was saved and was towed back to Russia. Also an American sub was sunk during the fight. ??????

The suspicion by Washington is that the deep Russian sub might have been laying nuclear mines that can create tidal waves and flood the American coasts should the need arise, or that it might have been cutting lines between the US or Europe - which is absurd since it was in waters near Alaska.

Something is definitely going on because Putin cancelled something which had been planned for a long time to have an emergency meeting with Shoigu. The White House is having an emergency meeting, the EU at the same time is having a security meeting and the British government has called a cobra meeting. All this at the same time.

This is completely bewildering, and yet you have always been a dependable, reliable source of information involving Russia.

Why in the world would the U. S. get involved with fighting a Russian submersible...?! It has been clear for about five years that Russia is trying to extend its dominance over the northern polar region, and that lately the U. S. has been more assertive up there, too, with more plans for the future. But to have deadly conflict? That seems so unlikely.

Yep....Jenny or Hillary has been a "reliable" source on all things Russki.....all his/her/its sources are from RT, can't provide videos, hasn't a clue where Eastern Europe is.....maybe you can provide more Borisiya? Or is it Vyacheslav?

While it's suspicious this isn't being covered more broadly by major news organizations, which does give your post some credence, I am somewhat skeptical...but then there's this:

"Naval experts have suggested that Russian deep-sea submarines like the "Losharik" might be used to tap or even sever intercontinental communications cables that cross the seabed and which carry most of the world's internet traffic. In the past two years, a number of Western military officials have issued warnings that Russian submarines have been picked up close to the cables.

There has so far been no confirmation that the "Losharik" was the vessel which suffered the fire."--https://www.yahoo.com/gma/fire-kill...tary-says-142800611--abc-news-topstories.html

So, if true, and the Yahoo report implication is true, they were warned, they ignored, and now they're dead. Hopefully, message understood.

It is confusing and there is a lot of different information floating about. Now I'm going to speculate. If the American sub gave the first orders to shoot, could it have been orders by the Pentagon to destroy any friendship that might be coming about between the US and Russia? I know that Vladimir Putin invited Trump to Moscow during the next Victory Day Parade and that Trump was thinking of going.

Then again since the sub is known to have the capabilities of planting mines I can understand American concerns - but not concerns about cutting cables since it was in Alaskan waters. That would be a dim excuse.

Then there is something else. If the Russian deep sea submersible was there to outline the Russian continental shelf, that means that as yet the boundaries haven't been defined. So how can anyone say if the sub was in Russian or American waters?

Russia has unfortunately become very tight lipped and deceptive so nothing they say if anything is believed anymore, the world will never actually know what happened.

    "Anything they say not believed....anymore"...LOL

That's been like that since like Day 1....they're tight-lipped because it may not have been a "research" sub at all...who knows.
