    Happy 4th of July.

American slaves could be freed in 1780s. Very few of those who hoped to be freed then saw 1865.

Modern America could have been a state which provides for everyone in need -- like Canada, Australia, NZ and to a degree UK.

American Penal System could have been humane like in UK, Canada, Australia, NZ.

Most of the 572,000 people who died by firearms in USA 1999 -- 2016 could have been alive.

Happy 4th of July to you.

Please consider devoting at least an equal amount of time focusing on what's good about America and the blessings you do have from living in a country to which so many people want to come.

Yes, America could be better especially if everyone does a little something to make it so.

Focusing on negative stuff is not one of those little somethings and only ruins a perfectly good day that you could otherwise have enjoyed.

The most valuable thing you is time & you have more control than you realize over whether that time is enjoyable or miserable.

Good luck on making your holiday an enjoyable one.

In reality, penal system of Canada is very humane. UK, Australia, NZ less so, but still much better then USA.

Definitely there were genocides of natives. There was no slavery there.

Now they have much more humane system then USA.

I don't agree. I think that they are less humane because I factor in the taking and not just the redistribution of what is taken. I just don't see how they can do more good than harm. I just don't see how they can dispense more than they take. I'm not getting the 'fishes and the loaves' here.

Taking from millionaires and billionaires to support people in need is humane. A he to moillionaire does not suffer from becoming a DECA millionaire.

Hectomillionaire and decamillionaire -- but what can you expect from an $40 tablet?

What does how wealthy someone is have to do with it? You do not have more of a right to what is yours than anyone else. The nerve it takes to declare that astonishes me. Your sense of entitlement to other people's stuff is absolutely shameless.

So, perhaps we should settle for the crumbs off Wall Street’s table.

That’s what the GOP has told us for forty years.

So far, the money has kept flowing in one direction throughout that period. And it wasn’t into the pockets of the middle class.

Which is in sharp contrast to the “Affluent Society” of the 1950’s and 1960’s, when middle class standards of living rose steadily and as the middle class gained a bigger share of the nations wealth. It peaked just before the first Oil Crisis in 1973, and began to reverse with the arrival of Ronald Reagan.

Today asset and income distributions is back to where it was when Warren Harding was President.

And the talk radio Fox News right wing cheered for it all the way!

That can't be comfortable. I've never experienced what you're going through. I've never been bothered in the least by even those who have the very most. I just can't relate to how you must feel. If fact, I can't help but look at it in exactly the opposite way. I can't help but be happy that those with the least have more than ever. By any metric, human well being has been improving since the time of Christ. We now have more people living longer and healthier lives with more liberty and justice than at any other time in human history. I'm happy with our progress. I'm happy for those with the least, and I'm happy for those with the most. I'm happy for everyone in between, but I do feel bad for those who cannot appreciate our best yet just because it's not uniform.

Historically, UK, Australia, NZ are the very essence of amorality and flagrant disregard for human life, not only against indigenous of other countries but their very own lineage within their country!

That’s all well and good, but life expectancy in the US is not rising, nor is hunger decreasing, And wealth has steadily diminished in the middle class.

And the United States hasn’t been around since the time of Christ.

Prisoners are still considered the Slaves of the State.

They have less freedom then slaves of the past.

But at least over 70% of them are guilty as charged.

Ditto here but the percentage is almost certainly higher and the worst thing most inmates have to fear in the US is an over sexed none to picky cell mate.

Taking is humane, like Canada's subjugation of the indigenous populations. Australia too.

In UK, Australia, Canada, almost all long term prisoners have a cell to themselves.

In Russian prisons, all kinds of contraband are available. In Russian prisons there are no gangs -- there is just one hierarchy united against Law Enforcement.
