Tom Steyer officially announces presidential bid

Billionaire Tom Steyer officially entered the presidential race on Tuesday, saying he would seek the Democratic nomination for president despite having previously ruled out a run in January.
In a video released Tuesday morning, Steyer said, "if you think that there's something absolutely critical, try as hard as you can and let the chips fall where they may. And that's exactly what I'm doing. My name's Tom Steyer, and I'm running for president."
Steyer, who has teased political bids before without ever launching a campaign, never fully ruled out a 2020 run despite his January announcement, a source familiar with the situation previously told CNN.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally, I think we've already had one billionaire president too many.

Personally, I think the Steyr is a great little platform....

Oh, wait a minute... Sorry, you said Steyer, not Steyr.

    My bad. "Carry" on. ;)

Well, I think Tom Steyer might give Trump a run for his money. But I'd have to see his platform before I would consider a donation or my vote for him in the primary.

He's a Hedgefund manager, according to the news article. Maybe if the government has some investments to make he would be a good choice to direct funding.

If Tom Steyer doesn't have a "take your guns" policy position that would easily be a good point for the general population who don't want to lose their gun rights.

Probably 7.8 million of those are from California so if he runs as a democrat he’ll probably win California.
So he’s got that going for him!

I don't think he has actual designs on the Presidential nomination, but I think he will use the platform to attack Trump with a couple hundred million in ads and appearances.

Another one hops aboard the clown train.

    Let me guess his platform

    2nd Amendment = Bad
    1st Amendment for non-leftists= bad
People in the USA must suffer financially to fix pollution created in China and other countries

I don't think having a lot of money makes someone unable to effectively lead the nation. Having a lot of money can sometimes mean they are good at running things and succeeding in life. Do you have any policy proposals of his you disagree with?

    Yeah, that's about right.

WRECKING BALL: “Tom Steyer, the Democratic Primary’s $100 Million Man,” who’s “about to turn the Democratic primary into an expensive demolition derby:”

Steyer’s probably not quite a threat to overtake Biden or Harris or Sanders or Warren. But everybody below that might as well call it quits.

Life just stinks if you’re Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, and Michael Bennet these days, doesn’t it? You’ve worked hard to try to get things done in the U.S. Senate and it means bupkus to most Democratic primary voters. You could call for Trump’s impeachment, but you can’t do anything until the House of Representatives actually passes articles of impeachment. You’re sharing the stage with no-name House members and some spiritual guru from California who’s talking about the power of love. You’re going to spend your summer eating corn dogs in small towns in Iowa singing the praises of ethanol while reporters ask why you’re not raising as much money as the mayor of South Bend, who nobody had heard of a year ago. And now some billionaire who you’d prefer to have as a benefactor rather than an enemy has decided he wants the same job you want.

Berkley-based green leftist Mike Shellenberger tweets, “Steyer made his fortune financing coal plants. As a nat gas/renewables investor, he spent $18M in 2018 trying to kill US’s largest source of clean energy, Palo Verde nuclear, and replace it with gas & solar. He’s now running for president — as a climate activist.”

Expect similar pushback from Steyer’s opponents.

He can self fund. Other than that, I welcome him throwing his money away.

I wrote him today as a professional [scientist and working engineer]. I urged him to take the lead in promoting fuels derived from algae.

I hope he sees my email.

Good idea! He should keep spending money until he finds the proof that Trump is a Russkie spy, no matter how long it takes or how much money it costs!
