Serious question -- what do Trump supporters think the citizenship question was supposed to DO?

Lots of people are going around talking about how necessary the question is . . . but no one has been able to explain what it was supposed to be used for.

Trump's explanation was . . . "“I think it's very important to find out if somebody is a citizen as opposed to an illegal." And this is the closest thing I've seen to an explanation appear on the forums. If that was the point, then why didn't the question actually ask that? So is Trump so ignorant that he doesn't realize that things like visas and green cards exist?

What dodge, I had to produce a birth certificate to drive legally and none of you came out for me or all the others that had to produce theirs too :(

I'm hoping for discrimination and reparation pay and a settlement!

The question is in the OP. You are still dodging it. What is the question supposed to be for? What is its purpose? This shouldn't be rocket surgery.

I've answered that questions dozens of times in my life including the census. Why is it so bad to tally how many citizens actually reside within this country?
Obviously you are afraid of the answer and I'm just curious of what the answer is. If we truly believe that only citizens vote in all states except California. It would be prudent to know how many citizens there are.

You actually believe or are promoting that non citizens avoid the census if this question is on the questionnaire?

So you don't think this covers your question?

Why does this question offend you so?, if you don't like it don't answer it

You think it does? No, it doesn't answer why the question exists. It doesn't answer what its purpose is. It just says you would be willing to answer it. If I had a thread entitled "Would you be willing to answer the citizenship question?" then you would covered it. I didn't. You didn't.

I think the only acceptable answer is "No, I don't think the question should be asked" :)

I didn't say the question offends me. I asked what it is for. So far, four dodges.

No, that still wouldn't answer the question. I asked what the purpose of the question is.

Sure it did, why do you think I had to produce a certificate of where and when I was born :)

You ok man, you do know what birth certificate signifies, right

To count actual citizens within the borders? how is that. Now how are you so weak within your person that you would refuse to answer said question if asked?

I'm not sure how to make this any simpler, but you keep dodging. What. Is. The. Purpose. Of. The. Question? What. Will. It. Be. Used. For? "I have a birth certificate" does not answer the question.

For what? And why do we need another survey for that when they already ask for that information in the American Community Survey?

Assess how many non-citizens there are in the country. The last two decades the number has been 10-11 million. Seems absurd that never changes. Government already knows how many green card and visa holders they are since government issues green cards and visas.

You are not even close. There are more than 11 million green card holders alone. You are conflating non-citizens with illegals. Which is exactly what Trump is doing. Hence why I'm asking.

From a purely logical perspective, asking if one is a citizen on the census would theoretically tell us how many non citizens are living in this country, in addition to how they are geographically dispersed.

This seems so obvious that I am surprised that you are asking the question.

The question on the renewal form needed to be reinforced with proof of citizenship that's what the Birth certificate proved..

Rewrite your post, all you did was ask the question

    1) Only if all non-citizens answer the question, which doesn't seem realistic 2) So what? What will that be used for?

You still aren't talking about the census and still aren't addressing the OP.

. . . the purpose of the post was to ask a question. So . . . yes . . . all I did was ask a question . . . that was the point. But thank you for underlying the part that points out Trump's stupidity.

LOL, a green card holder and a visa holder are non-citizens. Government already knows that number. The number of illegals has stayed static for a couple of decades.

Post where you mention Census LMFAO :)

Rewrite your post and this time make yourself clear as to what the hell you're talking about :)

Again I had to prove my citizenship with a question and proof of citizenship with my birth certificate when renewing my last drivers license. All you asked was
In my case it allowed me to drive my automobiles legally LMAO :)
