Full title: "Puerto Rico corruption scandal ripples through Washington as White House, Congress call for greater spending scrutiny"

    Trump is right once again.

Back in April of 2019, Trump said that Puerto Rico's "politicians are incompetent or corrupt."

When will the left-wingers admit that Trump's assessment about Puerto Rico was correct?

Trump hates Puerto Rico, so this is probably fake news

Puerto Rico citizens should all move to republican states so they can vote

I lived in PR for 4 years and everyone knows corruption rampant, it’s an accepted way of life. As long as 1 out of every 4 jobs on the island are government jobs, no one is going to complain.

They’ve destroyed Puerto Rico (not that it was that great to begin with). But then those libs will move like locusts to destroy their new homes in Florida, Georgia, etc.

That’s what libs do. They’ve done it in New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, New Mexico, Washington, and Oregon. All formerly red states.

I am sure there is some corruption, same as in the Trump admin and everywhere else... but I think Trump is trying to turn this into all of Puerto Rico vs just those that may of done something corrupt

What does Trump have to do with PRs history of corruption? If anything, libs are courting these corrupt Puerto Ricans. Birds of a feather....

The Puerto Ricans weren't grateful enough for Trump's personal delivery of some rolls of paper towels!

Those ungrateful illegal immigrant wretches should never be allowed to emigrate into the USA!

I wouldn't call NM a traditionally red state, in the Obama backlash we did have a GOP house and senate for two years, but that was the first time since the Eisenhower administration.

Puerto Rico has always been corrupt and poor, just like most of Latin America, and their power grid was on the verge of collapse before the hurricane. I'm half Puerto Rican, there's a reason my grandparents left in 1917.

Trump was 100% correct. That country has been in trouble for a long time. Long before the hurricane blew down their fragile structure.

    Yes.

I think some starry-eyed liberals imagine that Puerto Rico was a pristine perfect flawless tourist mecca prior to the hurricane, and they get a bit self-righteous that we haven't dumped mountains (more) of money on restoration; but the reality is that PR was a wreck before the hurricane ----due to corruption and incompetence---- and I think it is wise that we use caution in handing over more mountains of money to be squandered similarly.

Really I often wonder why we don't just cut PR loose entirely.

They can't even function as a territory, let alone a nation. What we don't want is for them to get voting rights in Congress as some libs want.

My ancestors left Scandinavia, Germany, and England about a generation before that. Those places couldn't have been that great either.

    Dear
What do you mean that the disaster clean up is still ongoing??
Dear Gods! We have had major disasters here and it has never taken this long.

So what is the REAL hold-up?

    https://prospect.org/article/hurric...-disaster-recovery-puerto-rico-remain-unspent

Australia is and always has been the land of “droughts and flooding rains” we have had our fair share of disasters with whole towns wiped from the map. I guess we are used to cleaning up mother nature’s messes and there is simply no way the cluster muck up that is the Trump administration response to PR would be tolerated.

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/emergency/find-an-emergency/

All my life I have heard how much better America is at, well everything but when it comes to this sort of thing I am left gobsmacked.

It really does not matter WHOSE fault it is. People are hurting so it needs to be fixed. If there is that much of a problem put an Ex army General in charge, (preferably someone with a logistics backgroundj give him/her a staff and the funds point him/her in the right direction and sit back

A lot of them have moved to Florida and Georgia. Agree with you about this being fake news. (Kind of like when Trump claimed that Iran had violated the terms of the nuclear agreement)(They didn't)

Your starry-eyed naivety is sweet, and perhaps genuinely well-meaning, but it also indicates you are not familiar with Puerto Rico and its myriad of problems and corruption long before the hurricane. If this subject actually interests you, I'd recommend you do a quick google duckduckgo to learn more.

I can still remember after the hurricane when there was some leftie here who didn't even realize Puerto Rico was an island. I still laugh remembering that. But it shows how little people know about America's red-headed step-child (in both parties, no doubt.)

Maybe this will help you better understand.....

The extreme leftists are essentially asking us to pay to change this:

    into this:

It is unrealistic, and ignores Puerto Rico's history (which would then just repeat itself) and PR's problems with corruption and incompetence.

    Er, no they're not.

PR workers don't pay federal taxes unless their jobs are tied to the mainland. Since 1/4 of the few that work are gov't loafers with the bulk of the rest being burger flippers, that as a whole, they pay very, very little. Calling them "taxpayers" is a misnomer at best. Tax leech is closer to reality.
