can't say that if the criminal flied the scene of the crime and was a block and a half away when the gang of men caught up with him and beat him to death, had he pulled him out of the car and started punishing him, he would of had a better defense, hard to claim self defense when a person is running from you

So, as a result of this incident, will car theft decrease in Philly?

If that is the case then he should be charged with other members of the mob with manslaughter.

1-3 years. I did a few months in county. I learned to steer clear of gangsters in there for killing people. They were just awaiting trial, but you do not want to make eye contact. I learned how to play spades like a bastard and made a great friend with an older black guy. He kept the youngsters from ****ing with me. Politics of jail.

You can use reasonable force to prevent a crime occurring or continuing up to and including lethal force if necessary. You can't chase a fleeing criminal down and beat them to death as revenge. What happened here was the latter.

I would call this justifiable temporary insanity.

When your kids are in (presumably) immediate mortal danger, any expectation of reason and restraint goes right out the window.

I agree with the notion that he shouldn't have killed the guy, but I don't think any parent on the jury could honestly convict him for it.

That's my point. I'm trying to encourage people to think beyond the natural emotive reaction and calmly think about the consequences of the precedent they're looking to implement. That isn't to say that the circumstances should be ignored, in decided whether to charge, convict and any subsequent sentencing but it's a dangerous step to far to declare that beating someone to death in the street can ever be justifiable.

I think more details are necessary.

If the dad pulled the guy out of the car and bashed his head on the road, thats a good father defending his family with an unfortunate yet understandable amount of adrenaline.

If the dad spent five minutes pulping the guys face with his fists while his no-longer-endangered children watched, hes a dangerous rage-a-holic that needs attention from the state.

Somewhere in between is a line.

gotta love it... the 'usual suspects' that condone & defend mob mentality crimes from the likes of antifa, now 'about face' and crucify a man protecting his infant children... the left is getting crazier by the moment...

Let's keep it factual. The need for 'protection' was over when the baddie abandoned the car.

I think you need to read the actual OP article. It obviously doesn't have literally every relevant points (no news article does) but the reported sequence of events is much clearly than you appear to understand.

What are you talking about? I can think of plenty of reasons beating someone to death is justifiable. This is one of them. Good riddance to the thief. The father should walk.

Exactly what he should have done. I applaud him. One less criminal on the streets.

Judges should always take into account the significant benefit received by the community in general whenever a violent felon is killed in the act.

A little anger management counseling is always appropriate in cases of face pulping.
