I'm sorry I'm missing your point. Obviously, I don't know all laws on this topic. But, it would be interesting if there were a radiation limit that NASA must follow but SpaceX doesn't have to follow. I think one radiation limit on NASA is that they can't cause more than a 3% increase in likelihood of cancer within the indiviual's lifetime. I don't know how they figure lifetime on that!?! That's definitely serious business. I'm thinking that a local magnetic field of enough power to defelct high energy radiation could screw up experiments, equipment, etc. It might even have direct health affects - not like nuke power plant exposure obviously. The incoming cosmic radiation is significant. When an astronaut closes his/her eyes, flashes of light will be seen due to bombardment of the retina. Protecting against that with magnets means some pretty darn powerful magnets.
My point is that neither you or I, let alone anyone else knows what any non existent OSHA regulation will be put in place and it wont matter anyway because they will be there before whatever is decided on regardless.

Any company will obviously adhere to standing OSHA rules. That was not in question, there are no regulations for Cosmic radiation exposure however, as far as I can tell.

Yes - the youtube I posted has a design for spacecraft protection, too. In this thread I'm presenting one of the health factors that NASA sees as potentially delaying a human trip to mars. I haven't suggested that the general idea of forming a magnetosphere is impossible in the long run. It seems like the best technology direction for space vehicles, as other choices have significant problems. This is an issue for moon travel, too, obviously. Even just our sun, with it's far less energetic radiation, could fry astronauts in today's rockets. The only good part about the moon is that we can get there and back faster.
Probably more of stimulating an epigenome more favorable to low gravity situations rather than a real, mutie (snarf, gurgle gurgle). You might invoke the Pearl Chain effect. Or not.

?? There are many groups working on electromagnetic protection against radiation both in space and on earth. NOBODY has written off this approach for space travel. Not every idea that is easy to describe and which has huge focus has produced technology that we can immediately use today.
Really interesting. I hadn't seen that specific configuration before - it's not like the tube of coils surrounding a spacecraft like a prophylactic, for example. The shape of the one in this article seems similar to the shape of the wheel like structures used for maintaining artificial gravity that humans need. Maybe there will be synergy there - like a space station with two concentric circles, one for radiation protection, one for artificial gravity. I wonder what they mean when they say high temperature superconducting coils. Some of our satellites already need significant heat shielding and methods of dumping heat. And, our satellites will all be fully exposed to the sun, of course.

I wonder how human evolution is directly connected to Earth and all of it's properties...like gravity, chemistry, day/night, Earth's orbit, properties of the Sun, Earth's magnetic field, common diets, etc.? And to whatever degree this might be, what happens when humans are suddenly subjected/exposed to different parameters? Earthlings are relatively fragile beings, many not being able to handle excess heat, excess cold, higher elevations, atmospheric pressure changes, a bean and onion burrito, etc. so when they are eventually exposed to all the changes they might experience in space travel, it's easy for me to see there are going to be problems. And this is without mentioning psychological issues...
EVERYTHING human is tied directly to Earth and its properties because it is what created us and sustains us. Being in ANY foreign environment will have adverse effects no matter what we do...its all a matter of time.
Absolutely. In the OP I just focused on radiation, as it's illegal to radiate our astronauts into cancer, etc. even with their consent, and we have ideas today, but no accepted solution. Today, space station astronauts stack all their stuff in a pile and hde inside the pile when there are bursts of radiation. And, they still have significant protection from Earth's magnetosphere. That won't work in space. The OP cites include other health concerns NASA has even just for the trips to get there.
