In the past a country as powerful as the USA would have conquered every nation it could reach.

That might not be such a bad thing if it were to include Central America. Better the American forces go there to straighten things out rather then having the drug smugglers and poverty stricken people flee their homes to the US. Seems the US isn't imperialistic enough.

 

They are 'victimizing' themselves by trying to enter the country illegally. Central American countries have similar laws though they are often selectively enforced.

 

That was never claimed or hinted at. The point was that there is a great deal of racism and prejudices in Latin American countries, far more than there is in the US.

Everyone living in the US should be thankful. We should be ever vigilant that we constantly keep our standards of anti-racism and non-prejudice as high as they are and always point it out when we see them being lowered. We are pretty good but we can always improve.

What is needed is for some kindly Republican grandmothers to organize a 'Salute to the Troops' rally in Portland. Keep the Proud Boys and similar types a million miles away.
Let Anti-Fa know that this rally is going to take place, that it will strongly patriotic, highly pro-American, very pro-military.
Make sure enough people with video equipment are in place.

Sure, maybe. But there's no reason it has to go that way. The best way to avoid that is to accept this permutation of Mexican culture as a fundamentally American phenomenon, rather than something alien.

Remember that Texas didn't rebel alone, and that Texan Hispanos fought alongside the Anglo settlers.

American racism, like that being displayed so prominently these days, will lead to the kind of conflict that could indeed lead to Reconquista.

I'm not predominately worried about a Reconquista, but the violence surrounding it.

Can you elaborate about "the violence surrounding it"? Protest demonstrations included 1 million marchers in Los Angeles never involved violence/ arrests.

 

The American standard of how to deal with people who come here is very plain and easy to know. It is written on the base of the Statue of Liberty so the whole world can see it.

 

I think the GOP would go for a DACA deal IF we could secure the border first, the Democrats refuse.
