    Many liberals see the rise of Trump and far-right leaders in Europe, the Philippines and other parts of the world as a repeat of the fascist rise of Hitler, Mussolini and Francisco Franco. But if history is truly repeating itself, the defeat of fascism in this century will be followed not by a progressive paradise but by a post-World War II-type era of social conservatism and bourgeoise ideals: the “1950s,” a period often mocked and derided by the left.

    (The social description “the 1950s” encompasses the post-war period of 1946 to 1963, before the social revolution ushered in by the Beatles and the Vietnam War protests.)

    When the 1950s come back, still several years away, look for woman to focus more on family and children and less on careers. The alphabet soup can of LGBTQ will be pushed to the rear of the pantry. The self-segregation by ideology occurring now may be extended to self-segregation by lifestyle and race.

    The cosmopolitan elites will persevere, but they will lose much of their influence in the media.

    While the culture will move right, a liberal amount of government intervention will be required to focus on the family. For example, generous Social Security credits might be given to stay-at-home moms who have gainfully employed husbands.

    So you're suggesting relying on government? Doesn't that go against the conservative ways?
    I am personally not in favor of increasing govt reliance.

    The OP characterization is not so: it was a great era for whites only.

    No, America will not go back to the 1950s. Real America will never permit.

    If your wife doesn't dress nice and complains a lot you only have yourself to blame.

    No they don't. They are ushering in the return of the Soviet Union. They are the thought police, intolerant of speech they disagree with, intolerant of views they don't hold. They not only hate the speech and views, but they hate the people who say things they don't agree with and hold the views they don't share. The militant arm of the left is the terrorist mob, Antifa. Intolerance among conservatives is nonexistent compared to that on the left.

    It may be true of the hard core far right but it is definitely true of the mainstream center left.

    Woman were forced into the home. In the 1970's after my Grandfather died my Grandmother's electric was shut off because her husband died and the account could not be registered in her name. Same with loans at a bank, male dominated societies are not picturesque nor are they romantic they are oppressive. Let's hope you don't get polio..

    But the 1950's was the most prosperous times in America's history. The vast majority were well off and things couldn't have been better, low immigration resulted in higher wages for all and the middle class grew as the lower class shrank.

    The communist agitators hadn't slithered into the black communities yet to agitate, cause trouble and divide society yet, that happened during the 60's.

    What's the American word for the European word, "nationalism" ?
    Patriotism.

    Patriotism = nationalism
    Nationalism = patriotism.
    Patriot = nationalist.
    Nationalist = patriot.

    Internationalist socialist are neither patriots or nationalist.
    They are just political lunatics without a country.

    "Nobody wins unless everyone wins" :roflol::roflol::roflol:

    A socialist wet dream.

    There will always be winners and losers.

    The question is, will the winners be the majority or the minority ?

    During the 1950's the majority were the winners.

    In the 1950's we had a top tax rate on the very wealthy over 90%,we built our interstate highways and much of our nations infrastructure, which is now in decay and falling apart.You could buy a nice new car for $2,000,jeans were $3.00 a new dress shirt was $1.00,cup of coffee 5 cents.

    . . . but not for a good portion of the population.

    By all means, though, let's increase the tax rate on the rich to over 90%

    Get real. In the 1950's the US was the only major manufacturing power left in the world, Europe and Japan were still rebuilding, the emerging nations (China) had yet to emerge. Those conditions no longer exist.

    Tax rates were higher but tells us nothing of the effective tax rate, the rate of tax people actually pay.

    Billions of dollars are spent on infrastructure maintenance and repair each and every year. What areas of infrastructure do you think need more attention?

    Yes, everything cost much less in the 1950's, including labor. All of the reasons this is so is a mucher bigger topic and risks straying to far from the OP's topic.

    The conservative but prosperous era of the 1950 is part of a regular historical cycle in which a “morning” period of rebellion and irrational exuberance eventually leads to decay, which is followed by an “afternoon” period of war and suppression, and then a “night” period of recovery, such as the 1950s, marked by peace, prosperity and conservative social values.

    We can see a 1950s-like period from about 1871 to 1901, in which the morally conservative Victorian Era in Britain overlapped the Belle Époque, a period of settled and comfortable life in Continental Europe. That was followed by the more innovative and rebellious “morning” years of 1902 to about 1929, followed by the harsh “afternoon” years of the Depression and World War II.

    This cycle seems to be observable in Western Civilization.

    In any case, white people are not the sole custodians of social conservatism. “Traditional values” are held across the world by people of different cultures and colors. In Japan, for example, “stay at home moms” and even “stay at home wives” are very common.

    Not in todays Japan where labor shortages due to an aged population and very low birth rate require as many to work as possible.Japan is now plagued with thousands of empty decaying homes with no one to fill them.

    There are probably a billion people around the world that would jump at the opportunity to fill those homes and be part of the labor force, if they had the transportation and were allowed into the country.

    What was the GDP of Germany in 1950. France?. Japan? The US? If you can't appreciate that the US had no competition relative to the rubble in the war zones, you're not even worth the effort to debate.

    Are the present times better for minorities who do not have actual families, and who do not even know who their parents are?
