Don’t know if it still runs but at the bottom of what was once called ‘The Scenic Railway’ (not The Scenic Skyway) at Katoomba turn left for approx 2km (?), wander up the slope until you find the entrance to an old mineshaft. Looks more like a natural cave opening though. That’s as accurate as I can get 61 or so years later. OH, and watch out for the leaches.
It still runs! And as far as I know, it's still the steepest railway on planet Earth. Feels every bit of that when you're on it, too! Not familiar with the area you're referring to, but doesn't surprise me to hear there are old mine shafts. Or that there are leeches aplenty. Damp and cool sort of area, no?
Fun In Queensland, O.Z. https://www.wctv.tv/content/news/Ge...car-to-catch-fire-in-Australia-512467921.html Gender reveal stunt causes car to catch fire in Australia GOLD COAST, Australia (CNN) - Queensland police have released video of a man's car bursting into flames, in a bid to deter others from similar actions. The driver was performing a burnout - spinning the wheels to create smoke - as part of a gender reveal. It was driven about 100 meters before it caught fire, with panicked onlookers running to rescue the driver. The incident shown in the video happened in April 2018, but other failed burnout gender reveals also have taken place. Police confirmed that no one was injured. Also, it's a boy. There is a video at the link. Not on YouTube , yet.

It augments his own strength. He originally thought it could help his Dad who is a builder and does a lot of heavy lifting. It increases his lifting ability by 60 kilos. Remember the Loader in Alien?
https://news.yahoo.com/dozens-birds-fall-sky-horror-144410143.html Dozens of birds fall from the sky like 'a horror movie.' They were poisoned, experts say Nearly 60 dying birds fell from the sky in Australia, leaving witnesses horrified. Sarah King, founder of local nonprofit Casper's Bird Rescue in Adelaide, a city in Southern Australia, was contacted by a member of her staff who discovered corella birds falling out of nearby trees and the sky. A few were dead on sight. The rest, she told the Guardian, were screaming in pain with blood gushing out of their eyes and beaks. "What we were seeing was something out of a horror movie,” she said to the Guardian. King suspected poisoning of the birds, as the short-billed species of corella — a type of cockatoo — is a known pest in Australia. They are known to kill crops and damage power lines. "The birds weren't able to fly and were lying on the ground wailing in pain," King told the BBC. "Some birds were bleeding out of their mouth. That immediately made us think of poisoning, which we've seen before." The long-billed corella is a protected species, and individuals who kill them could receive jail time and fines. Poisoned by farmers? BTW how are the bunnies doing since the germ warfare on them? How about the dingoes? Moi Don't ize Australia
Corellas aren’t loved as they can be destructive. There was a story a while ago about poisoned wedge tailed eagles. There are still a few old farmers who believe that the eagles will take a lamb and this one employee, a New Zealander, killed more than 400 of the birds over four years. There are fewer rabbits around now but I still see some along the freeway grazing on the grass at dusk. Dunno about the dingoes.
Australia's foreign pest problems aren't just limited to bunnies or land, the Department of Primary Industries now have their sights set on eradicating carp from the country's waterways as well, following the success of the calicivirus. "What is being proposed is what's known as a koi herpes virus with intention to reduce the population of carp to allow the recovery of native fish populations." "In some of Australia's waterways that have huge numbers of carp in them, estimates say 80-90 percent of those waterway's fishlife or biomass is actually carp." (From Xinhua and I’ve lost the page)
Those carp have become a problem in rivers. The barrier that was supposed to keep them out of Lake Michigan has not worked. How bad tasting can they be? So who is killing those birds?
I think perhaps farmers are poisoning the birds. It’s said that the carp taste muddy. I’ve never tasted them.
I am not sure about this as I only heard this from fairly reliable source, IMO. The birds were collateral damage from the SA Government and the Adelaide city council attempting to cull the Pigeon problem in Adelaide. I believe there was couple of investigations and some hand slapping but nothing else. But again, it is only what I heard.
Oh ok, got the bull by the horns there then. Didn't hear anything about that one. Funny though, this seems to happen more often than we hear about obviously.
I think there needs to be an education program. Some of these old “wives’” tales are hard to stamp out.
There Is Nothin' Happenin' in Australia for 4+ Days. I do believe Australia is becoming, ized How is the New Surprise, Surprise, Surprise government working out? Like a new government in ? Do we have a new gov't? eh Moi Please keep your signs pointing in different directions.
I rarely agree with Alan Jones but on this I'm giving him a standing ovation. Jacinda Ardern is the poster child for liberal government...maybe she missed the fact Australia just had a landslide Conservative win ?? preaching her liberal polices to Scott Morrison as if he has no clue and no electorate to answer to. Alan Jones says Scott Morrison should 'shove a sock down the throat' of Jacinda Ardern https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/aust...hroat-of-jacinda-ardern/ar-AAFPNVC?li=AAgfYrC here's how Jacinda Ardern governs tg she's a Kiwi
I was watching Australia's Got Talent the other night and I saw this woman do the splits and (no jokes please this is serious) she got back up using the shear force of bringing her legs together. The last time I did the splits it took 2 ambulance officers, a paramedic, the Westpac rescue helicopter and a team of orthopaedic surgeons to get me back on my feet.
