I live at 60' elevation a mile inland from the Pacific Ocean.

Now I have the option of Ocean Front Property.

    Bring it on!
Leave a bigger carbon foot print, please. Breath Deeply.

The clearing of the rain forest will slow down, and in fifty years there will be more trees on the planet than in a long time. If you are into ecology, go for it; you are that part of the system that is becoming aware. Go for it with all your might, but do not be depressed. It is part of a larger thing. Earth is in the process of domesticating itself. It is never again going to be as wild a place as it once was. There will be great wild places, reserves where nature thrives. Gardening and reserves will be the thing in the future. Population increase is getting very close to the optimal range of energy to cause a shift in consciousness. That shift in consciousness will change politics, money, energy.

That's both vague and largely a safe bet, since awareness and efforts have already been in place to curb rainforest deforestation, and there is obviously already a "shift in consciousness" taking place and has been for quite some time. Politics and energy are changing in response. Not sure what the money part is about, though.

That is what I am thinking as well.... it is going to be truly challening to get humanity to realize that it is theoretically possible for us to lower ocean levels........ But most of us are just too busy paying bills.... and being entertained to do the research that proves that this actually is possible.

Moses was a truly brilliant economist:

Was Moses - Moshe a brilliant economist?

(Ok...technically it was the One teaching Moses who understood what humans are actually capable of doing if.... they can unite around a worthy and logical goal. )

Ecclesiastes 10:19 "A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things. "

We Nova Scotians are forced by our geography to attempt to get people thinking about this.

There are other rain forests besides equatorial.
Such as the California Rain Forests / Coastal Redwoods.

Yes there are, but they are tiny compared to the current extent of the equatorial rain forests (though I guess if the equatorial ones keep shrinking that won't always be the case :() so their carbon management capability is comparatively insignificant.

Beyond focusing solely on carbon dioxide, the equatorial rain forests also have much greater biodiversity which in addition to the good feelings associated with more species means that they offer a greater biobank for the discovery of new treatments and so on.

Also, as I understand it Equatorial rain forests keep the Jet Stream coming up the eastern seaboard which warms Americas Eastern coastal areas.

The oceans have risen and fallen for as far back as scientists can see

And with no help or hurt for humans

But the last time that average global temperatures rose by three degrees ocean levels rose by about twenty five meters over about four centuries....... according to Dr. James Hansen. We are not yet ready for rapidly rising ocean levels like that but in theory..........
we both can and should get better prepared.

Two areas of the earth are in the position of the proverbial "canary in the coal mine."

Those two locations have the most extreme tides. The eastern area of the Bay of Fundy has the world's most extreme tides but they are closely followed by Anchorage, Alaska.

The rest of the world should keep their eyes on what is happening along the Bay of Fundy and Anchorage, Alaska because the tides there will give a considerable warning to all other areas of the earth that are somewhat vulnerable to the threat of rising ocean levels.

I've already put the idea in front of M. P. Bill Casey that he and the residents of his riding in Cumberland - Colchester are in a special position and they be researching technology that has been developed in Israel for mega-scale desalination of ocean water AND.... THEY SHOULD ALSO BE LOOKING AT THE SEVEN HUNDRED AND TEN TRILLION DOLLAR WORLDWIDE DERIVATIVES MARKET as of 2014 because the implications of all that could shift the world away from the obsession with a Carbon Tax or Cap and Trade System that Mr. Al Gore sold to naive young people through his infomercial style documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

    M. P. Bill Casey... President Trump has a 4.3 trillion dollar problem....

Although this was done back in 2014 the following forty six minute video by CIA economist Mr. Jim Rickards elaborates on the foundation to what I consider to be the greatest economic opportunity in a century or so.

The Carbon Tax was a JOKE played on an under-informed population and what is happening now in Greenland proves it... .but large scale desalination of ocean water can yet save vulnerable cities like New Orleans and Miami!

Frankly... .even small to moderate sized desalination equipment for resorts along the coastline of nations with lots of desert could be extremely helpful.

Greenland's ice wasn't supposed to melt like last week until 2070

Good question..... but I do believe that eight billion humans have astonishing productive capability if their leaders in government, industry, education and philosophy will give them better guidance.

Volcanic activity tends to delay a general global warming trend. Global Dimming tends to cool the planet.
