Taking a bottle of water into the shower after work is nowhere near as sexy as taking a beer.

Good point about the shape of their heads.

One thing I've noticed about the copperheads I've encountered is that their heads appear to be yellower than the rest of their bodies. I don't know why I'm not seeing that in the photos I posted.

I don't know if you or anyone else has had this experience but I've encountered both docile and aggressive copperheads in my days. As a rule I leave the docile ones alone but after my wife almost got struck by an aggressive copperhead the mean ones get to meet Mr. Pest Control:

I like catchin' animals and stuff.Have captured a few Black widows
and a Cow Ant { very nasty stinger }.Couldn't get a barn bat.But almost.
Had a copperhead in my front yard in a Water meter hole.I decided to
pour gasoline on it on account it can be deadly.
Generally I save animals.Like Mice my cat brings in doors.Saved
I believe 3 mice over the years.
I Saved a Hawk in mid spring. It was in my garage on top of the Garage
door which was open.Birds like to hang out there and Hornets also
like to build their nests.I had 2 Robin births this year.Last year there was
a fat Robins nest right around the Sears Garage door unit.So a Robin
used it once and then again.I Decided to take it down due to it was too
big and kinda messy.I had to both times help a robin get into the backyard.
Put gloves on and gently picked them up and tossed them into the backyard.
Yer not supposed to do that because Robins keep a close eye on their
chicks and the Nest. They usually never stray farther than about 100 yards.
But I don't want one of the neighbor dogs to get one if too weak to fly.
Sometimes if they fall they could injure their legs or wings.
They supposed to fall to the ground.I put down an old sleeping bag to break
their fall. The Chicks end up crappin' all over stuff like my Motorcycles.

I'm the same way - I won't kill an animal unless it poses a threat to me, my wife or my pets.

Even when I carry that Remington out in the woods as a precaution against bears I have no intention of firing at them unless they charge me. Generally, a shot in the air is enough to convince ol' Smokey to mind his own business but if you run across his girlfriend and her youngsters there's no telling what will happen.

This city girl got dragged to a Rattlesnake Hunt once. Finale -- bunch of cowboys in a concrete arena with hundreds of rattlesnakes. The sound was deafening. :omg:

To catch a bat....This worked around an outside light when bats were about. Take a cane pole with line as long as the pole and attach a lead sinker To the end. A small sinker...when bats are catching insects around the light twirl the sinker over your head....the bat will hit the sinker and stun himself. After a while they wake up and fly away....if not they are dead. Never killed one though.

True dat, and the length of the barrel on that tactical is 1/2" as short as you can go without pulling a Randy Weaver.

Dammit! I just got some bad news.
When I lived in lake arrowhead, I developed some awesome water for brewing beer. I sent a sample to a lab in order to get the mineral makeup. I sold that house and my boss rented a house for me in tehachapi. I sent a sample of that water to the lab to get the numbers on it in order to replicate it. It worked perfectly. Moved up to Idaho, took a sample of that water and sent it to the lab for the numbers, replicated it again but during my mash, my pH was off so I adjusted it according to the “reported” residual hardness but it over corrected on me, uh-oh, something is definitely wrong. I was already money into it so I finished the batch (10 gallons). My wife wanted a batch of her diet beer, I didn’t want to but my flight was booked and it was a decision of beer or no-beer. I went with beer and made a batch for her. Well, yesterday she kegged and carbonated my batch and had a little taste of it. She said it’s drinkable but isn’t my signature brew.
Called the lab and they offered a free retest and that sample went into the mail today.
Life is too short for lackluster beer, especially when I will be 4 weeks on the wagon and f’n thirsty when I fly home.

Picked some more pokeberries today and bent the hinges for my pirates chest. Want to make sure I have enough stain to finish the job. They say a salt "fixer" makes a Carmel color and an acid " fixer" makes the dark purple and reds. Gonna try vinegar and may boil some beets because that is supposed to be the same color.I need about a quart of stain ... just to be sure.

One thing is certain about bears. They aren't to be trusted. In fact,
Black bears that are quite common in Tennessee and even Kentucky
are trouble.Like Wild Boars.Spiders generally mind their own business.
Brown Recluse especially, but are extremely fast. And they like to hibernate
indoors and find places like old clothes in the laundry room.
I can't allow Black Widow because they build nests and multiply
and are nuisance. They can't bite and cause death for an adult but
can a small child.A Brown Recluse can bite and you won't know it
until you discover a mark.Which can really disfigure one's skin.
I was allergic to Bee bites as a kid,I was up at a Beach resort at
a rental cottage and came running indoors once at about age 12.
I got stung by a Bee { Bumble Bee } and ran inside and started
yelling. My Father quickly came and said ... Don't Move it's on
yer belly.Well that did it.I went almost berserk and the bee stung me
again. My Father thought he could smack it dead on my person,I guess.
I had to go to the local doctor.Don't know what became of that
Bumble Bee.They can sting multiple times.Once got stung by a Hornet
on the tip of my index finger.I kinda deserved it.
That Hornet bite produced a near perfect rectangle scar that
lasted for about 30 + years.I,an a neighbor buddy decided to
throw apples at a Huge Hornet nest.I think we threw so many we
knocked it to the ground.I think I'd do it again.
No fan of Hornets or Bumble bees or Yellow Jackets.
Africanized bees have not made it this far north ...
    Yet

It seems that fresh fruits and veggies are at an all time best
    at our Groceries { Including Wal*Mart }.
EXCEPT ... Bananas.A couple weeks ago all Bananas
at my local Wal*mart were bad. They had little brown marks and
were soft.Earlier,in spring Lemons were unavailable.I never saw
that before.I asked about it and was told they weren't being
shipped. There was some problems with Lemons.
I like Red Potatoes and sometimes they aren't too red or
blemish free.I aint one to buy a whole bag of Potatoes.
    Just enough for a weeks worth.I'm a Batch,after all.

A couple of months ago a Mama pig with 5 piglets in tow went down the hill. They rooted up a good size wallow near the creek. They can be a nuisance especially to the farmers.

Cousin to the Cottonmouth which Is deadly.Just watch what happens to
Walter Brennan in - Swamp Fever - after being bitten by a Cottonmouth
or Water Moccasin. He plays a fur trader who lives in the Swamp.
He casually one night goes to the edge of the swamp to scoop-up
a drink of water and gets bite square on the cheek by a water moccasin.
He Face freezes in terror. He holds his hand to his cheek while stumbling
back to his campfire. He passes out and falls to the ground.Luckily a
Trapper trainee is there to watch over him.But instead we see Dana Andrews
digging a grave.Walter Brennan { arguably The Best Character Actor Hollywood
ever produced } didn't die.But he almost did.The fear on his face after
being bitten is enough for me.

Cool. Mixing up batches of dyes and stains the way it should be. It seems we've lost that capability for the most part, easier when it comes in a box or a can.

Texas has a huge Wild Pig { feral pig } problem. They are scientifically
trying to eradicate it.By steering the Pigs once they go on their
wild rampages in herds into fenced off sections where they can roam
and act as usual. But these fenced-off sections have large metal
Feeders filled with feed or grain that is Genitically altered to
eliminate certain requirements for life.I don't know if too much or
too little of something. But eating that feed leads to apparent death.
Kind of like surviving in the Wild in Winter by only consuming rabbit.
One comes down with Protein Poisoning.Meaning such a lack of
fat,the body goes into a form of shock.
