The federal min wage has not been raised in a decade yet the price to exist has increased....

Actually, they let automation do those jobs, or change the nature of the business. I've noticed that recently, more and more counter serve restaurants are opening up--places like Moe's, Voodoo BBQ, Shane's Rib Shack--that have better food than fast food, but that don't have waiters/waitresses, just somebody at the counter, a couple of people that carry food to the table and bus the tables.

If we're going to have a minimum wage, it should be adjusted for inflation every couple of years. I don't really agree with minimum wage, but if it has to exist, it should remain fairly constant compared to the price of things. Minimum wage has been $7.25 per hour since 2009. Based on constant dollars, that should be at least $8.60 per hour.

Sears is bankrupt due to not keeping up with the times. That said, I really don't feel sorry for Sears. Sears was the disruptor of the retail world over a century go. Eventually they were going to get disrupted.

There shouldn't be a federal minimum wage.

So, I take it you support high tariffs on imported goods and are against, or at least reluctant, to exporting american made goods.

If you were making minimum wage 10 years ago and are still making minimum wage I have little sympathy for you. And if Republicans just want cheap labor why don't they pay everyone who works for them minimum wage? Why doesn't every business owner just pay everyone minimum wage?

And yes it has kept up and fewer people earn it that before.

"Perhaps surprisingly, not very many people earn minimum wage, and they make up a smaller share of the workforce than they used to. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, last year 1.532 million hourly workers earned the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour; nearly 1.8 million more earned less than that because they fell under one of several exemptions (tipped employees, full-time students, certain disabled workers and others), for a total of 3.3 million hourly workers at or below the federal minimum.

That group represents 4.3% of the nation’s 75.9 million hourly-paid workers and 2.6% of all wage and salary workers. In 1979, when the BLS began regularly studying minimum-wage workers, they represented 13.4% of hourly workers and 7.9% of all wage and salary workers. "

I earned minimum wage for 90 days back in 1972 and never again.

Then start a company and pay them what you think is a "fair wage". But do tell me how do you determine what is a "fair wage" and again what don't all employers just pay minimum wage?

then don't start a business if one can't pay people a fair wage

the gov decides that with the min wage, I say tie the min wage to Congresses cost of living increases

Again what is a "fair wage", I already showed that there is no need to index it but if you are and we have deflation are you going to lower the minimum wage. How about "fair labor" if your job is not worth more than minimum wage to the employer then the employer doesn't pay more than minimum wage.

And AGAIN why doesn't every job pay minimum wage? If employers are all about paying as little as possible for labor, a myth, then why don't they all just pay minimum wage? Why do less than 3% or workers earn minimum wage and how long do most earn that wage?

the problem now is that min wage has not kept up, so it needs to rise by a lot, but that is more painful then if it had risen slowly

most employers every time min wage has gone up, choose to pay it as to them it is worth it - very few want to do the work themselves

Trump is said to hire illegals so he can pay them below min wage... so yes some employers would do so if they could

by your logic is would only effect 3% of the work force, so not a big deal... right

the fact is, you either pay them a living wage or they get welfare - there is a price to cheap labor - the employer pays it or the tax payer

That must be why the Republicans are trying to keep the borders wide open to illegal immigrants, the cheapest of laborers, right?

The Republicans are doing that, right?

isn't that why Trump hires illegals and doesn't want them to be able to come here legally

There is always the Underground Economy there are plenty of people who will work for cash at under the minimum wage the higher it is the more incentive there is for people to look for these jobs. Say Bob is willing to work in NYC for $8.00 an hour and just work longer hours at gigs an example child care plenty of women will work for that and whatever hours are needed and tend say eight children at that its only $1.00 per child per hour plus usually some other costs. No taxes paid or licenses or other normal expenses its all profit. In truth most will get more than that in that kind of work but most can't demand much more off the books but can often earn enough to make it worth it. Especially older women maybe in laws who do this to add the income to the household. Car washing by hand also went there with custom vans with pressure spryers and the like they will scrub down a car for say $15.00 each split three ways all cash and under the table also.

The problem is the mind set that minimum wage is supposed to support a family.

Minimum wage is for entry level workers with entry level skills.

    No.

Trump is trying to stop illegal immigrants from coming here illegally. Hadn't you noticed?

It's the Democrats that love undocumented slave labor.
