Looks like Trump will be in Europe at the end of the month, but, alas, no trip to Germany. He will meet Merckel at the G7 in France and will then go to Poland and Denmark, our allies.

Germany should probably just leave NATO.
And NATO should have a rule - if you don’t follow commitments you are out.

Well, yeah - what’s in Germany?
Poland seem to be much more important these days.

Merkel is against Nordstream II and oppossed the project when it started. Trumps acting left her no room but to push for it.

Apparently Germany is shorting the NATO on it's $2B commitment to NATO so they can use it to build their own military separate from NATO. I wonder how far they will get before the UN slaps them down? Aircraft carriers are not needed for German defense unless they need to go half way around the world in order to defend their borders? Sarcasm.

The article means to spend 2% of GDP on defense.

Which means we would spend 2% for the Bundeswehr. Something Merkel doesnt want to do. We want spend it on railways.

With no natural energy sources like oil or natural gas. I think Germany does have lots of coal? And lets not forget Germany was Hitler's home too.

    2% not 2 billion.

    We talk about 120 billion.

There is no NATO military. There are militaries of the individual member states.

@Thedimon you dislike me, ok but would you be so kind and tell him what rubbish he talks?

So you did read the article? Yes, Germany owes NATO 2% of it's GDP annually for defensive purposes.

It means spend 2% on the individual member states militaries.

It means that Germany spends 2% on the Bundeswehr. Something we are not willing to do. We are at 1.25% and think thats enough. If we spend 2%, we would rise to 3rd largest military in world.

We dont want nor need that.

I read where their military equpment shortage was so severe that they had to train with broomsticks instead of guns. Half of their air force pilots can't meet NATO's minimum training hours because their planes are grounded because of maintenance issues. They are supposedly only contributing 1.3% of GDP this year.

Here to show how laughable your bla bla is, Germany ows NATO nothing. This is about national defense spending. NATO contract says the member states should spend 2% GDP on their defense.

AKK actually want raise it a bit

    https://www.dw.com/en/cdus-akk-aims-to-boost-bundeswehr-budget-to-nato-target/a-49688831

CDU's AKK aims to boost Bundeswehr budget to NATO target
Germany's defense minister plans to increase military spending to the NATO target of 2% of gross domestic product. The SPD, Merkel's coalition partners, said they would not allow Trump to dictate military spending.

Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is calling for Berlin to take steps by 2024 to raise German military spending to 2% of gross domestic product. The number is NATO's stated target for domestic military budgets, and a frequent demand of US President Donald Trump. That would mean an increase in spending in the double-digit billions of euros.

    You get it now?

Ad this is a problem why?

What do we need a army budget with 120 billion € for? This would make us worlds 3rd biggest military.
