How about this, if the little toe rags didn't try to steal stuff that didn't belong to them the youth would be alive today. It's a fine example of Darwin's evolution. The little toe rag did something he knew was wrong. He rolled the dice and got snake eyes instead of 7. That was his choice, it's a matter of personal responsibility.

With all those ups and downs and hairpin curves in the Ozarks it's difficult enough for a human being to drive.

It's the problem of the criminal... not the law abiding citizen.

A gang of 5 against 1 constitutes life threatening IMHO regardless of they have weapons or not. Men have been beaten to death under the false pretense that if they just concede, they will not hurt them. Animals just do not know when to stop. Shoot one of them, they flee like roaches when you flip the lights on.

I do and I can guarantee that my kids will never perpetrate an act like these kids did. However, they would know how to effectively defend themselves from such animals.

Because the four survivors are going to be invited to speak at the upcoming Democratic Convention, since their preferred speaker, Michael Brown, is not available.

There can be more than one problem. We’re taking as read that the criminals were there trying to steal his car (nobody in the thread seems interested in seriously discussing how to prevent that issue).

How law abiding citizens respond to crime is a separate question and we can obviously compound or cause additional problems based on those decisions. You essentially said as much yourself when you talked about the potential negative outcome of his staying inside and just calling the police, which I don’t disagree with as a possibility. Either choice – staying inside or going out to confront them – could have resulted in much worse or much better outcomes, mostly down to blind luck.

No argument. The righteous choice, was made by the shooter.

EDIT: It was only a "bad" outcome for the criminal.

BS. someone breaks into your house you shoot until they are no longer a threat. End of story. As soon as they enter your property illegally they forfeit their right to life.

He saw something in their hands and even if they had nothing, it was 5 young thugs against one old man. And remember it's Chicago.

That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

This was not downtown where these thieves just wandered onto someone else's property. They traveled outside of their own neighborhood into the neighborhood of others for the sole purpose of to commit a crime. That in itself create a viable threat. Criminals, by nature, do not not normally say "oh, heck, you caught me" and lay on the ground to wait for the police. They will attempt everything possible, including violence, in order to avoid getting caught for their crimes. The "threat to life" existed the minute these criminals set foot on the man's property. That is the law of nature and survival.

If you walk into a bear cave, the bear is not going to wait in order to determine your intent. He will likely attack you and kill you. That is the law of nature and survival. Now, certainly, we humans try to be a bit more civilized than bears and other animals, but the "laws" are still valid. Unfortunately, those people with sympathy for criminals, or those people with criminal natures themselves, feel that the criminal has more rights than a person trying to protect themselves and their family and that rules or fair play are somehow relevant or important.

The second most ridiculous thing I have heard.

I do not live in fear, but I am certainly not going to rely on others to protect my Freedom in or around my domain. I am responsible for protecting my own Freedom and the Freedom of my loved ones. The rules are quite simple. Do not take what is mine. Do not harm what is mine. Mind your own business and I will mind my own. Come onto my property with the intent to rob or harm me, and my animal instincts will come to the surface and I will respond the same as the bear who's cave you just violated.

Their intent was a felony. Any death that occurs while committing a felony is murder. I agree totally with the felony murder charge if all 5 were intent on burglarizing the victim.

The little predators chose an old man (75 years old) to prey on. They thought they could do so with little or no repercussions. Sorry that the fourteen year old died, but that's what happens when you attempt to commit violent crimes. (one of the predators came at the old man with a knife)

Then they should have run instead of going at him with a knife. He didn't shoot until one of them came at him.
