A 14-year-old Kentucky girl fired a 9mm handgun at two suspects who were trying to force their way into her home.

Blaine, KY – A 14-year-old girl successfully defended herself and her sisters by shooting at an intruder who was attempting to break into their home.

The incident occurred on Aug 4, while the teens’ father was at work and their mother was at the store, WSAZ reported.

“She peeked her head out the door [and] fired a shot in their direction,” Lawrence County Constable Daniel Castle told WSAZ. “I think she did take some necessary steps to protect herself, although she may have…could have done it a little bit better, considering that she’s 14 years old, she did a good job.”

The suspects fled the scene just prior to Constable Castle and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Cook’s arrival.

Despite hours of searching, investigators were unable to locate them.

“I encourage everyone that can legally carry a firearm, to carry a firearm to protect themselves and their families just in case the need arises,” Constable Castle told WSAZ.

    Good story

Reminds me of the “Shoot ‘em Again!” mother in Georgia that defended herself and small children with a .38 Special revolver

Here’s how it will go down

Her father refused to turn in his guns to the government

His daughter saved her life but dad will go to jail and the family will lose their home

Which will be given to the rapists she shot

I'm guessing a more plausible scenario would be:

young girl gets praise for firing weapon left lying around

gets itchy and cant wait till next time and actually get to 'smoke' a bad guy

mother goes store again, forgets keys, pushes on front door

    mother gets shot

Are you suggesting self defense is a gateway to murder?

Another myth from the no nothing about firearms GCA's, a normal 14 year old child can be taught how to safely handle and use a firearm.

Furthermore normal people don't get itchy to "smoke" a bad guy, that sort of action is reserved for folks with serious mental health problems and because of that are prohibited from owning firearms or ammo.

Clifton Clowers has a pretty young daughter, n' she's mighty handy with a gun and a knife.

She's not going to be a victim of hashtag MeToo.

She knew where it was stored and was trained on how to load it.

You have a problem with that?

    Why would she not?

Imagine if she hadn't had access to that protection?

Here is how it could go down in the future:

15 year old girl breaks up with boy friend.

    Gets gun and commits suicide.

That's one reason why living in a household with a gun increases the odds of death.

She is 14. Plenty old enough to operate a gun. My parents made sure I knew where the gun and ammo was before they left me alone at the age of 10, and I started shooting at 5. Minors in their own house should absolutely know how to operate and have access to firearms when left alone. It is on the parents to ensure they have been taught basic gun safety, which is not at all difficult to teach.

Gawd....no it isn't. There are plenty of examples of teens using a gun to protect themselves, their homes, or their loved ones. Provide just one example of the scenario you described....where the teen that once protected themselves ended up killing again, but the second accidentally time killing a loved one.

Typical GCA pap, if she didn't have access to a firearm she would just use another method to take her life.

Well, sure. Depressed 15 year olds always use a gun after breaking up with their boyfriend/girlfriend. They NEVER slice their wrists, OD on their mom's prescription medicine, hang themselves, crash their car, or stab themselves. I worked for a number of years in an ER and saw a number of teen attempted or actual suicides. Only one in every 100 was because of a gunshot wound. Most were from OD or the wrist slicing (normally done incorrectly).

    Two ways.

    1. If at 14 anyone is that heart broked over a break up then they have low self value. Self value is something that parents should be teaching, well more demonstrating but that's a form of teaching.
    2. If the kid cannot talk to their parents about how they feel, that's simply insecurity in the parent child relationship.

Both are the result of bad parenting.

I'd suggest that nearly all parents are extremely bad. And that's the root cause of most of our social problems.

In all fairness, even people taught how to safely handle and use a firearm have accidental shootings. There are countless examples of gun instructors/LEOs who accidentally discharge a weapon, experienced gun owners accidentally discharging a gun in the process of cleaning said gun, homeowners mistaking their teenage kid coming into the house late at night as a home intruder and shooting without know who they are shooting at.
That being said...good for this girl for being able to protect herself.
