He didn't die on the lawn.

His "buddies" tossed him out of the car farther down the road.

Five thugs walking towards you, one with a knife, after trying to steal your car aren't walking toward you to apologize.
I also read that Australia was working on adding age to the hate crime list. You might want to do some research on the increase in violent attacks against the elderly in Australia.
Ummmmmm. What does Dickens have to do with anything. LOL.

And the criminals in those countries thank you profusely for putting the onus on the victims.

Yeah...it was stupid sh*t like that, that caused us to break from many parts of English law. If you, England, and Australia feel that criminals have rights while they commit their crimes or that some "rules of fair play" are relevant, then that is your choice. It is not a condition I would like to live under when I find myself in a situation where any hesitation could cause the death of myself or especially a loved one. Personally, I chose to error on the side of the victim much more than the perpetrator.

Bowerbird - "Do you not think there was violence in the England of Dickens?"

Yes and that's why all the scummy thugs were rounded up and shipped to Australia.

As they say in court... facts, not in evidence. You have no idea if your tawdry assertion is true or not. Unless you're one of the five...

Does Illinois also have a Prop 47 and prop 57 like California has ?

In California a failed burglary is treated as a misdemeanor infraction like j-walking.

If the old guy had a heart attack and died, it wouldn't have been murder. Yet, the criminals would have been charged with that.

    As was I.

    The charge is righteous.

It will certainly get pled down to murder 2, or manslaughter.

Did he shoot him as he was fleeing?...Or off the home owners property?.....Citizens have a right to defend their home, but not to pursue and take the laws in their own hands

And if you read through the thread, you'll see they sped away in their stolen Lexus, and dropped their buddy up the road, and continued until they ran out of gas.

Wonderful!. Those child soldiers in Africa probably lived normal African lives until the men with guns came into their villages and marched them away. I have seen interviews with some rescued child soldiers, who were made to do terrible things, and they seemed salvagable. Probably like the Hitler Youth in fact.

Mr Sandifer and friends are a different kettle of fish. They're not going to be jerked out of their terrible environment like African child-soldiers or 14 year old Hitlerjugend, and put into a new one where the men with guns have decent values. (Just guessing/hoping about the African case, I admit.)

And there are always extreme cases, unusual individuals who are able to make some sort of enormous mental/emotional leap out of moral depravity into civilization.
Malcolm X was one such man, Tommy Tarrants (KKK bomber, now a worker for racial reconciliation) was another. And, although I'm an atheist and hate to admit it, probably in both cases, a strong religion was necessary in order for them to make that leap and be sustained in a new and transformed life.

I don't know about Mr Adut's case.... No, I do, thanks to Wiki: he's an atheist (well, who wouldn't be, after what he went through), brought to Australia by Christian Aid Workers, bless them. A remarkable individual. Maybe he'll be Australia's PM some day. Keep him a long way from South Chicago.

That would actually have nothing to do with shooting a fleeing suspect...
