Could 911 Be Prevented If We Can Shoot Down Planes?

The worst attack on American soil remains the attack on WTC on 911. Yet despite the fact that we have a constitutional right to self defense, citizens are not arming themselves with anti-air defense. The cowards attacked us because for years the protocol had been to give hijackers the plane. They knew that people wouldn't fight back because they didn't have surface-to-air missiles. But imagine if they did. They terrorists would think twice about attacking us if they knew that oridinary citizens can shoot down the plane they are in.

 

Ummm, wow. Ok.

It was a surprise attack, it was over before anyone knew what was going on. Even if citizens would have had the means to take down a plane they simply wouldn't have known they needed to or been able to identify the correct plane.

Who still cringes when they see a low flying plane in an unexpected location?

 

Don't give visas to Muslims/let them in the country. Problem solved.

Even if you aren't being "sarcastic", it is a horrible idea.

A lot of attacks are surprise attacks. A gunman shows up in your concert is a surprise attack. But they can be stopped by a citizen with a defensive weapon. 911 could have been stopped by a personal surface to air missile

 

AND Pearl Harbor could have been prevented if we had nuked Japan first.

 

As terrible as it sounds, the idea has some merit. We would not just be shooting down an airplane which just happens to be doing something unusual. They scramble the fighters and intercept the aircraft. They follow the aircraft. They try to direct it to a safe area or to an airport. If it appears that it is on a path which provides immediate danger to a large number of people on the ground, they shoot it down.

It becomes a choice between killing hundreds to prevent the death of thousands. The idea is fraught with chances of going wrong, but is still worth considering.

 

A gunman on the ground is easy to identify
A terrorist occupied airplane is not.

 

The logistics and technological requirements of what you're suggesting are ridiculously unrealistic.

 

And how would a citizen know which specific plane in the sky was hijacked?

 

Delete the cockpit access to the rest of the plane. Problem solved.

 

That's what's nice about a forum like this. It's open to any one and every one.

 

The problem with shooting planes down is you take some liability for the damage the plane does when it comes down, whereas if you just let the hijacker do whatever he does, it's all on him.

About security: Place a locked and deactivated TAZER in every seat back, and allow any crew member to release and activate them with the press of a button. That would strongly mitigate the possibility of another 9/11.

 

If one still believes the official story of 911, one is very well brainwashed, and likely also believes in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.

That's true, when you fire a gun you are responsible for whatever the projectile does. If you managed to shoot down the right plane and it took out a school when it hit the earth that's your fault.

During the rocket bombardment of London RAF pilots did everything they could to shoot down buzzbombs, when they were successful the bombs still landed on London. Some American fighter pilots thought the idea was insane, it guaranteed damage to London, if they left them alone at least there was a chance it could overfly the city..

 

It's difficult to think like a terrorist and get your mind outside the envelope like they can.

It has been almost 18 years and they haven't been able to repeat this tactic of war, because now we know.

But something else will come from outside the envelope.

Because that's what they do.

 

Nah. The 9/11 hijacker tactics would've rendered anything like that useless.

It went like this- the hijackers stormed into the cockpit, locked themselves in, brutally and quickly killed the pilots with box cutters, and then took control of the airplane.

It happened so fast, that the passengers and flight attendants had really no time to react. If they armed themselves with tazers, they would've been met with a locked cockpit door, and nobody and nothing to taze.

The 9/11 hijacking plan was really genius in it's simplicity, and it was basically foolproof given the innocent attitudes of the time.

 

Short version: it was an inside job. It was, as some have called it, a Magnificent Deception.

The aircraft that hit the towers were not AA11 and UA175, and there was no airliner at the Pentagon or in Pennsylvania.
