"Trade wars are easy to win...."

The so called "Stable genius" has just been fooled again by someone smarter than him.

China has just imposed tariffs on $75 billion worth of American products.

Last week, Trump announced the suspension of new tariffs "to prevent consumers from paying the price before Christmas and Thanksgiving..."... admitting at the same time that his tariffs affect the economy, contrary to what he has always claimed!

China is now forcing him to respond in a way that will accelerate the US economic slowdown...

    Trade war is on!

    Trump's latest tweets....

Our Country has lost, stupidly, Trillions of Dollars with China over many years. They have stolen our Intellectual Property at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year, & they want to continue. I won’t let that happen! We don’t need China and, frankly, would be far....

....better off without them. The vast amounts of money made and stolen by China from the United States, year after year, for decades, will and must STOP. Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing..

....your companies HOME and making your products in the USA. I will be responding to China’s Tariffs this afternoon. This is a GREAT opportunity for the United States. Also, I am ordering all carriers, including Fed Ex, Amazon, UPS and the Post Office, to SEARCH FOR & REFUSE,....

....all deliveries of Fentanyl from China (or anywhere else!). Fentanyl kills 100,000 Americans a year. President Xi said this would stop - it didn’t. Our Economy, because of our gains in the last 2 1/2 years, is MUCH larger than that of China. We will keep it that way!

    =====================

He's actually right. We need to do this sooner than later, or China will replace the West and the U.S. as the World Power and those asshats are Authoritarian Communists. It is going to hurt for a while. Trump MUST share his plan, tell of the impact, and share of the goal and how we win it. He needs the confidence and backing of Americans if we are going to stop China's corrupt ascent.

Any gdamn fool with a modicum of sense and a 3rd grade knowledge of history knows how these trade wars go. Unfortunately that excludes the jackass we elected to lead us.

Yes. They are never good. But, the current situation is untenable. It means a slow demise for America. We can either bite the bullet and shut China down now, or our children will deal with centuries of Chinese dominance and that will be a dark world indeed.

Yeah... thanks for all of your insightful words with so much content behind them. The Chinese tried to take my company's IP, I know all about this. They wanted a 3 company deal, where they could just steal it. They have tried to hack our systems repeatedly from years with no luck, because my IT guys are far smarter. We do provide them with a virus, worm laden server that looks appealing for them to access. We rename it monthly and let them do it all over again. They even tried to give a us a single contract, with a condition that they "held" or software in escrow, in case we broke the contract. We all knew they would just steal it and said NOPE.

They have been dealing dirty with the U.S.A. for decades. They are currency manipulators, slave labor masters, and trade abusers. This needs to happen and sooner than later is the right move. If we do this right, our kids will thank us all.

China's biggest problem is keeping the rural factory workers out of the cities. If these jobs collapse, China is in a world of hurt.

Do we support our nation? If we do, we take the hit now. If we don't, we get to fall apart and Globalists and Chinese will take over.

Great. He's going to crash our economy over China ripping off intellectual property rights of certain US corporations.

You must be ignorant to the massive trade deficit we have with China? Or about how they steal out solutions, software, products and then mass produce them with slave labor? How long do you think this is sustainable?

Nope. There is so much more to this, including massive currency manipulation.

Do you have any real content to offer here? Or just troll / flame bait?

I am an American. I am a Libertarian / Conservative that thinks of the next generations first. If we don't do something now, our kids are screwed.

There may be one good thing coming out of this: Innovation.

Since corporations now will be gun shy of keeping production in China, they have three options:
    1) Offshore to another country, for example Vietnam, with the risk of that country being hit with tariffs next.
    2) Manufacture in the US, which is unlikely due to the high labor cost, which will make many products unprofitable.
    3) Automate.

My guess: The rate of automation will explode. What that will do to American employment, I don't know.

    This is a fine post.

The automation issue is a real one. We need to decide how that impacts our working class and what is right. Andrew Yang has some interesting ideas on this, but I would like to think that other labor markets would emerge as has been the case in the past. The question is, has our ability to automate surpassed the skilled and unskilled labor markets to such an extent that it will cause mass unemployment?

YOU must be ignorant to the importance of bilateral trade deficits. I mean, who in this day and age thinks it is a meaningful metric at all? Oh yeah, idiots like trump.

If you support a trade war while claiming to be libertarian, you’re the one trolling.

We've had tariffs for most most of our history, including our most prosperous times, it was where most of our revenue came from prior to the income tax. The Globalists told us trade with China would lead to more prosperity and more freedom for the Chinese. Instead we got the Rust Belt and repression in China and Hong Kong.

I agree, AI is only going exponentially increase and that is going to have a big impact on the labor force.

Well, as to the "slave labor" part, most of the world is "developing" and does the same thing. The western world relies on this. They do the work and pollute their environment while we reap the rewards and live like kings. I would love to see that changed and hope it will soon, but this trade war nonsense with China sure isn't going to do a thing about that.

Of course, I don't agree with China stealing IP (though our corporations know by now what they're getting into when they choose to operate in China, don't they?) or manipulating their currency to their own gain. But is this trade war the way to deal with that? Things keep happening so quickly and chaotically. Trump clearly doesn't have a plan here, but plays it all by ear and acts on his whims. Just today, China announces new tariffs and Trump suddenly calls on US corporations to move their production out of China in response. If he wanted us to get out of China, fine, but he could have tried working with Congress and US businesses to put together a long-term strategic plan to make it work, and that alone would have put great pressure on China to change their ways as well.
